1  Re: Post Photos of Your Tattoos! in Bath and Beauty: Completed Projects by MaeKitty on: May 13, 2008 10:33:26 AM
Hey all!

Just got my second one!

Inspired by the symbolism that bees have and Tori Amos' The Beekeeper album.

Hey all Smiley

Just got mine yesterday. My sister and I wanted matching tattoos in honour of our family and to inspire us to get throught the hard times. My family has had to deal with a whole lot of badness over the last few years. (To sum up: Cancer x 7, Death x 3, House Fire, broken bones, broken hearts) So, we each got our family clan motto of "Sans Peur" or "Without Fear" in Gaelic (Gan Eagla), just below the nape.

We wanted something feminine, but not too girly. We wanted something with presence. Something that was strong, but not cartoony.

Here's what we got:

I'm the one on the right.

3  Now you're a man! Spandex Orgazmo Costume (NSFW) in Halloween Costumes by MaeKitty on: November 03, 2007 09:27:23 AM
Hi all! Hope this doesn't offend anyone!

Every year, there is an event here in Ottawa at a local bar called "The Witches Gathering". I've been attending for 5 years now. Last year, my buddy Tyler informed me that he and our friend Sandy were going to go as Orgazmo and Choda Boy from the comedy movie, Orgazmo (http://imdb.com/title/tt0124819/). As the time approached, Sandy asked my help in putting together his costume.

We bought an old Superman pattern off of e-bay and were dismayed to discover it was ripped and incomplete. So, using Sandy as my model, and one of his old t-shirts, I designed my own top half to his spandex unitard, Sandy made the fiberglass Orgazmarater, and did half the sewing himself. I also helped Tyler with his Choda Boy costume, though he did the majority of the work.

Now, to share our combined efforts. They ended up winning Crowd Favourite btw Smiley

That's me in the middle Cheesy

They won!!

FYI, the Orgazmarator had flashing lights too. Sandy wired and fabricated the whole thing Cheesy

4  Re: "Lucky" from SNBN knitalong in Knitalongs by MaeKitty on: January 23, 2006 08:08:55 AM
I'm working on mine every so often. I started almost a year ago, but it was a little tedious and hard for me at the time. Then, I had to frog back half of my work because of a glaring mistake in the lace. I'm thinking about picking her up again. I'm using Elann's "Endless Summer Collection" Sonata cotton yarn. Here's the progress so far:

5  Re: Making your own halloween costume-along.. in Halloween Costumes by MaeKitty on: January 21, 2006 09:22:17 AM
Heh, a few months late, but I figured I'd post my Halloween costume.  I'm not sure how many of you remember the 80s animated movie "The Last Unicorn" based on the novel of the same name by Peter S. Beagle, but I went as Amalthea this Halloween.

This picture was taken after the main work on the dress was done. I did some touch-ups before Halloween.  Of course I don't have the wig on, or the red star on my forehead yet either. I made the dress to be a mix of the dress she wore in the movie, what was described in the book and the designs for the upcoming live-action movie. \

I unded up at the annual Witches Gathering at a local bar. A good time was had by all Smiley

Too much dancing, a huge wig, and yummy alcohol makes Lady Amalthea's dress decide to slide off. Heh.

Here's a group shot for good measure!

L-R: My friend Raff as Dan Hawkins of The Darkness, a friend of a friend as Electra and Me.

6  Re: postage stamp necklaces... (tutorial added.) in Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: Reconstructed by MaeKitty on: January 15, 2006 09:53:39 AM
Such a great project. I found this right before Christmas, which was perfect timing Smiley I made a bunch for friends. Here's what I ended up with:

Because I had no access to slides and couldn't find a suitable replacement, I just used a piece of stained glass and used a high gloss finish on top to protect the stamps. I can't wait to try with slides, as I found the finish bled through the stamps. They still turned out quite nice. More information on how I made mine on my craft blog, here: http://theknittingmaevan.blogspot.com/2005/12/crafty-christmas.html.

Here's one last picture, of the stamps on the glass pre-finish:

Thanks guys Smiley

7  Canvas Tote Bags in Other Image Reproduction Techniques: Completed Projects by MaeKitty on: December 19, 2004 10:15:59 AM
Hey all

Just figured I'd post my recent projects. The picture quality isn't that great, so I apologize in advance. The actual bags are far more colourful. Everything got washed out due to crappy cameras.

For Christmas, I decided to make my dear friend a bag. Well, then I got lazy, and decided to decorate one instead. Here's part of her gift:

For those of you who are unfamiliar, that is Delirium from the Sandman comics. My dear friend adores the character and relates to her. I then embellished the image with beading (which you can't see *sigh) and some sequins. Here's the original image.

I then made a gift for me Smiley Same stuff as above, really. I have yet to really p;lay with it though. It's Mucha's Poesie/Poetry with a quote which reads: "Painting is silent poetry, and poetry is painting with the gift of speech" by Simonides.
