Just a warning for those heading over to ATCsforAll... I just discovered that their general swaps post a "due date" by which they mean when you can reasonably expect the card to arrive, rather than a send-by date.

Yes, that is probably the biggest difference between here and ATCSforall-- getting used to having to send to a central hostess and planning ahead to get them there by the swap deadline. Sending a couple weeks before the swap deadline (especially this time of year when mail is slower) is definitely recommended! But you can also withdraw from a swap if you realize it's just not going to work out, time-wise.

I'm signed up on ATCsforAll, and friended a bunch of you, and am kind of excited by the possibility of doing one of the journal page swaps at some point.  But I dislike the mail-twice thing; it's twice the number of envelopes, amount of work, and possibility of things going astray.  Also, it looks like the person running the swap gets to pick who gets what ATCs?  So you can't craft specifically for someone unless you're doing a personal trade.  (Is this right?)

Yes, that's about right. If you want to stick to individual trades, you can approach members for personal trades (and post your own cards in the "available" gallery), or head over to the "Trade" forum, where there are a lot of "Make Me Happy" threads similar to the Craftster ATC swap (you claim the person above you, and then post your own themes). The Make Me Happy threads usually require a +3 feedback to play, but you can get that pretty quickly by doing a few personal trades. (I'm happy to trade with anyone if you're trying to build up your feedback, although I might not be super quick about it this month.)

The nice thing about the themed swaps is that while yes, it's double the postage, you do get back cards from three different artists. So technically it's "cheaper" postage-wise than doing three separate trades. Hosts usually do their best to swap effort for effort and give you back a nice assortment of cards. And once you're eligible to host (after 3 months being active on the site and a +15 feedback score), you can host swaps in whatever theme you'd like, and most members usually send an extra card (hostess card) to thank you for hosting, so you can get a nice collection of that theme.

@curiousfae-- I just sent you a friend request Smiley

If you see a swap you want to join, just post on the thread to sign up! You do not need a certain number of posts or feedback to play in swaps (other than PATs), and they're super fun. Just read the host's directions on the first page of the swap, and message the host for their address when you're ready to mail.

There's also a Swap FAQ here: http://www.atcsforall.com/forum/faq.php?faq=trading_faq#faq_trading_faq_join_swap

So glad that people are coming over to ATCsforall. Hope you'll join us, too, greybird and BigBangMomma (and snyone else who's on the fence)!

I put this in the pm chain before I came here and read the thread, but I just want to put in another plug for atcsforall.com. I have been a member there since its inception eleven years ago (incidentally, it was formed after a similar ATC site suddenly shut down suddenly, similar to the craftster situation), and recently became a moderator. I've done much more trading on there than on Craftster, and think it's a really fun community of artists. Membership has ebbed and flowed over the years, and I'd love to see a surge if I can persuade some of you Craftster refugees to come join us!

The majority of the swaps are themed and hosted-- you send your cards in (usually 3), and the hostess swaps them out and sends you cards from different members in return. Anyone can join these, including newbies with no i-trader (feedback) yet. The exception would be Pick-a-theme swaps (usually hosted monthly), which require 15 points to join, but then you get to pick your own theme and the other artists in your group make you cards on your chosen theme.

There are also the threads that gozer mentioned (Make Me Happy trades) that move very similarly to the Craftster ATC thread, where you claim the person above you and then list your own themes. You need 3 i-trader feedbacks to play in most of these, but you can get points by either playing in a few hosted swaps, or by arranging private trades. (I.e. if you all start accounts over there and arrange to trade with one another, you could get i-trader pretty quickly.)

Please give the site a try. There are other mail art swaps and trades going on there in addition to ATCs (ATCoins are pretty popular at the moment, and there's also a monthly decorated envelope swap), and I think the community is pretty welcoming. My username over there is miss. Please feel free to pm me either there or here if you have questions!

I received from Greybird today for my "Hunger Games" theme. She wrote, "I went with the theme when Katniss received the parachute of bread (dark ration grain and shaped like a crescent, sprinkled with seeds) from District 11."

Received this Little Red Riding Hood from bunny1kenobi... The accompanying note says, "I imagined a corps of werewolf hunting women when I designed it." Very cool!

I received three cards in the mail today! Apologies for the group photo; my camera and I are fighting...

From left to right, we have a llama from BigBangMomma, a woman with antlers from gozer, and gnomes from LadybugsAndBumblebees. Thank you all so much!

I received from geekgirl1000100 for my Muppets theme today. My very own Beeker with an awesome background-- cool!
