Thanks for the link to the pattern - I hadn't seen this hat before. I love your modern interpretation - what fun! The pattern reminds me of an old bathing cap from the 60's!

definitely very mod! thank you for the compliment. :]

i'm sure a lot of you are familiar with this pattern: http://www.headhuggers.org/patterns/kpatt07.htm

here's my version. all's i did was add the neat embroidered chain stitches.

top o' the noggin

the side

the front

another one of me donning it

i wish it was a little more snug. next time i'll use size 7 needles instead of the recommended 8.

86  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / Final Fantasy Scarf...NOW W/ CHARTS! on: February 02, 2005 08:00:46 AM
alright, kiddies, this particular scarf was the most time-consuming project i've ever worked on. mainly because i was lazy. but i also experimented with using more colors. i don't know whether it's intarsia or the atypical way of fairisle. whichever it is, it was a friggin' mess on the backside. & i finally did my first cable on this scarf, too. one qualm i had with the damned thing was that all i used were acrylic yarns & it would curl like crazy, which i expected. though i put a 3-stitch purl border, it still curled - guess it wasn't enough. i backed it with fleece (w/out the interfacing. d'oh!). yep, curlin' like a motha', i ironed the back and it helped a little. okok, enough of the details.

if you're a gamer (or just in the know) you'll recognize:
the black mage, the fighter, the red mage, & the white mage.

first cable! *jigs*

ya gotta model it a bit, like so.

there that is.

oh, i forgot to mention that i used size 7 ndls on worsted weight yarn. okay, cheers!

hey! it was a fusible interfacing that i ironed on to the back of the knitted portion. it wasn't any brand, i picked it up from my fabric guy in nyc. sorry i can't help you out on that. it looks like gauze, though, if that helps and it definitely moves as if there wasn't much of anything backing it besides the faux suede. my intentions for facing it were really to help the piece lay flat before backing it. if i find where i stashed the rest of it, i'll try and scan it and post a picture to give you a better idea of what it looks like. i'll also take a look at the pellon website to see if they have something similar.

you are too kind!! i wanted my scarf to lay flat before adding the back, which is the reason i asked about interfacing. i better just go to my local craft store and see if they have anything. i need it to be done asap! thanks!

i know, it's been awhile since this was posted. but i have some questions for ya!
i'm very new to this whole interfacing jazz. where did you get your lightweight interfacing? if it's a certain brand, which? & also, how stiff is it...does it move around as if interfacing wasn't sewn in? i'd love to back my scarf with it!
