31  COOKING / Recipes and Cooking Tips / Ugh, I know, but does anyone have a recipe using venison? on: January 05, 2006 02:35:05 PM
a friend gave us a package of ground venison and I'm tired of looking at it in the freezer!  Can I use it like hamburger or will it be too gamey?

The only way I've ever eaten venison was in sausage and once fixed like a brisket with bbq sauce.  I am baffled.

32  COOKING / Dessert / cupcake decorating help!!!! on: January 03, 2006 07:55:53 PM
I read every thread on cupcakes, and I've googled and visited many sites, but I cannot find a really good way to decorate cupcakes with butterflies.  I'm sure I saw it in some women's magazine, but who knows how many years ago!

I also need a good idea for a boy's cupcake decoration.  Both of my kids have birthdays in the next few weeks and I don't know what to take to school.

I'm thinking of making orange jello poke cupcakes as so many kids either are allergic or just don't eat chocolate...and I think plain white cake is BORINGGGGGG!

I'm thinking butterflies, ladybugs or flowers for the girl, but for the boy the only idea I have is to imbed little plastic toys in the frosting.

Any and all suggestions appreciated!
33  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Misc. Gift Idea Brain Blockage / gift for the guy who has everything?? on: December 12, 2005 11:52:57 AM
my guy has everything, and if he doesn't, he goes and gets it himself.  He is sooo hard to buy for and I already know he's getting me really cool/expensive stuff this year! I have less money to spend than he does and I truly cannot think of anything to make for him.

background...we met on the job as bus drivers, now I'm semi-retired due to recurring illness, and he got promoted to driving supervisor.  anything city bus related would be cool.

He was a widower with a young child and I was a single mom, now we're a blended family.  He digs cars and sci-fi, and barbecuing...

Our kids call him 'the meanest man in the world' but he's a big softy.

34  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Winter Holidays / beaded mouse ornaments on: November 23, 2005 10:16:40 PM
Guys,  I got the cutest beaded mouse ornament kits a few years ago, and now I have lost all of them in a move!  I can't find the kit anywhere!  It had clear beads strung on pipe cleaners you formed into ear shapes, body and tail...all in one.  So cute, and I haven't the foggiest idea how we did it.  I just recall thinking at the time 'I can buy all these supplies and do this agaiin.'

anybody have any ideas?

35  CLOTHING / Clothing: Discussion and Questions / Help me find this cute skirt? dancing photos, black bike shorts on: November 22, 2005 11:41:37 PM
There was the cutest skirt posted here and I can't find it!  The person who made it had posted pics of her dancing in it, wearing black bicycle shorts under it because it flipped up when she moved.  I think it had a stretchy waistband/yoke and then was sort of a circle skirt.  Any idea how to make this?

36  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Discussion and Questions / homeade window cling help? on: September 17, 2005 05:51:41 PM
Guys, I bought my kids these window cling kits and of course they have paint-by-number art with colors that didn't come in the kit!!  The original paints smell like elmer's glue, and I have read (I think) that you can use that 'slick paint' that comes in the 99cent tubes as a substitute. However, it is kinda opaque... So...I was thinking of trying to thin the paint with some elmer's glue.....

anyone done this, or got any pointers?  I have done countless internet searches and I cannot find the original paint in the colors we need.
37  CLOTHING / Clothing: Discussion and Questions / alteration ideas for a party dress on: December 11, 2003 01:04:52 PM
I got a great stretch velvet dress for $4 in a thrift store, but the sleeves are slightly too tight.  I'm thinking of replacing them with new ones made from stretch lace, possibly?  It's a fit and flare style mini dress, forest green stretch velvet, with strraight just past the elbow length sleeves.  Do you think a flutterly cap sleeve or a pouffy long sleeve would look odd?  Any ideas appreciated! Huh
