21  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / Snowy day yields reconstructed NSYNC shirt!! on: December 22, 2004 07:04:07 PM

This was a regular old youth large t-shirt that my mom bought me when I was in seventh grade!  I decided that it was time to make it cute.  Today was super snowy; there's about 6 or 7 inches on the ground, and I couldn't get out of the driveway!  It was time to craft!

I resized it, then I added a waist band, a band to go across the top, and bands to go across the sleeves.  I think it turned out cute; it's a bunchy in the stomach area.  Oh well!  good enough Smiley

edit:  I don't like NSYNC; it's sort of a joke Smiley
22  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / Strawberry bag on: December 19, 2004 08:04:03 PM

This strawberry bag took me forever.  I sewed the strawberry on by hand with upholstery thread.  I made a mistake and bought upholstery thread, and my machine wouldn't thread it.  I was left with no choice.  It actually looks okay, though.

Then, I realized that since I had neither red, green, or black thread, I couldn't sew a strap.  I had to use lace.

I know it will probably fall off soon, but oh well.  It probably won't if I just put a few things in my purse.
23  CRAFTING FOR GOOD AND NOT EVIL / Crafty Charitable/Social Causes / Sewing for Shelter: rasing money for Habitat for Humanity on: December 19, 2004 11:39:40 AM
I have started creating a website & an online shop, Sewing for Shelter.  I plan to place my handmade crafts (tote bags, hair pins, belts, clothing, etc.) on the online shop, and I will give all proceeds to Habitat for Humanity.  I have contacted Habitat through email for permission to use their organization's name on my website, and I am waiting for a response.  Has anyone ever worked with Habitat in this manner?  Did you find that they were helpful?

I am also looking for some fellow craftsters to donate their handmade goods to the shop!  Habitat is an excellent organization, so I hope that they will permit me to use their name on their site.  Your donations can be anything, as long as you made it.  "Sewing" is a key word, but handmade is really what I am shooting for.  Donating would be an excellent way to show your customers that you are dedicated to serving the community.  It will also be an excellent way for you to advertise your online shop/auctions.  Most importantly, it's a great way to donate to an excellent organization.  I will post a link to your site next to your item, and I will also have a page that consists of links to the websites of the contributors.

I really hope that Habitat comes through for this!  If not, I will attempt to find a similar organization to donate to.  If you are interested in donating your handmade items, please reply to this thread or email me at alisa@hoppypoppins.com

Thanks so much, everyone Smiley

24  CRAFTY BUSINESS ADVICE / Crafty Business Discussion / making your own labels/tags on: December 18, 2004 09:19:16 PM
I searched and found many threads about ordering labels & tags, but I could not locate a thread on making your own.  Does anyone have any creative ideas for this?  I am interested in sewing or ironing them into the hand bags I make.  thanks for all your help <3
