A lot of people react to more cheaper acrylic yarns. It can either be from what the yarn is made from or from the chemicals used to dye the yarn. If it continues, then perhaps think twice about using it.

youtube is your best bet for visual learning. Crochet is easier to learn if being shown. Here's a link to one of the best tutorials I've seen. Very clear and direct.

Please please PLEASE take pictures of you making this if you go ahead with it! I think it's amazingly ambitious. (Possibly also the perfect project for those of us who have interfering cats or kittens... yeah... unravel this, moggie!)

Here here! Pictures are a must!

I bought my yarn holder from a craft store here in Australia called Spotlight. It was about $12. It's only a small size so I can't really have more than 2 balls in it otherwise they get tangled up.

Thanks for all of the suggestions! I was at a yardsale last week, and I found this odd little number...I'm not sure, but I think it was originally intended for a grill of some sort. Whatever it was in its last life...
Whenever the yarn feeds through it, it looks like there's a small animal running around in a cage...sweet!

I love this! It would be so fun to watch the ball run around the cage.

10  CROCHET / Crochet: Discussion and Questions / Re: Yarn Ball Holder...? (sorry about the two mondo pictures) on: March 23, 2011 04:56:04 PM
to solve the weight issue, you could put a ziploc bag of rice or beans to keep it in place?

Or even just some marbles!

Or some of those glass pebbles you put in the bottom of vases. They're usually available at the cheap variety stores.
