181  CLOTHING / Clothing: Discussion and Questions / Re: Stretchy fabric? on: June 23, 2009 12:15:56 PM
Ok.. so... After reading your answers I went to the sewing machine to try... I loosed the tension (both, bobbin and thread) and the Zig Zag, continued to look messy! Then I folded the edge, and Zig Zag stitched, but the result was the same!

Then I tried the other stretch stitchs that my machine has, and ended with the same result! All the fabric going weird.

I think I'll leave this fabric for a while, and I'll try to buy next day another type of stretch fabric. Oh My God... I'm so angry! The top was almost finished, I just needed to do the zig zag stitch over the edges! Angry Angry Angry

Sorry, I only know the correct words in Spanish.. yes, I meant finishing the edges. Grin The problem that I have is... well, I think a picture will help here:

That is the edge! When I stretch the fabric, that line gets larger, and larger. The fabric stretches on one side, and if I cut it, it doesn't curl, it just makes this horrible lines.. (by the way... what is it called?). And well... when I do a zig zag stitch the fabric doesn't lay flat! It looks like this:

I thought about making the normal stitch (-) to finish the edges but then, when I stretch the fabric, the thread breaks!

At this point, I want to burn the fabric! Lol.

BTW, the fabric is the same on both images!

Elijor, thanks for taking the time to answer me Kiss Kiss Kiss

OK, my top is nearly finished, but I came across with another problem...

As it is a stretch fabric, I am finishing the seams with a zig zag stitch... however, the fabric curves a little bit, It doesn't stay flat at all!! The Zig Zag stitch I use is very long and narrow, and the tension seems to be ok! I'm just having problems with the Zig Zag stitch!!! Can somebody help me??? Please!

Muchas Gracias!

Oh! I totally forgot I had asked that question!

Thanks for the repplies! I had no patience and couldn't`t wait for an answer, so I cutted a piece of fabric and started sewing on it. A few minutes later I discovered I wasn't supposed to stretch it, and so I started to make my very first top, with my first sewing machine! Grin Grin Grin

I thought it was going to be much more difficult than it was. I had a little bit of trouble with the neckline because it kept bending and wasn't flat at all... until I clipped it! Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy

I just need to add the other sleeve and a nice bow in the front, and it will be all done!!! I still can't believe it! I know nothing about sewing... and nothing about sewing machines until I bought one 2 weeks ago! I'm so excited!!!!!!!!!!!!!  Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy
