1  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Weddings and Bridal Showers / My crafty 10-10-10 wedding thread! UPDATE 7-28-10 new pics!! on: April 04, 2010 05:41:21 PM
I thought since everyone is posting there ideas I might as well, none of them are top secret.  We chose 10-10-10 because I like even numbers! I'm from Bismarck ND and he was born in California and the air force stationed him two hours north of my hometown. We met on MATCH.com, yes it does work if you are patient.
We are getting married at the Science Museum of Minnesota (a favorite spot of mine in St. Paul)
We booked a smaller room because of the small number of guests (30?).
This is the room we booked, Argon of course!

We chose a very amazing abstract photographer! Check him out at Kofoto.net!
here is his main page picture:

We are ordering one lil wedding cake that will look something like this:

I have these kind of cake stands one big one, two middle ones and one very tall one:

I also picked up a cake serving set and flutes on sale at herberger's because they were tarnished!
not the actual picture of the flute because I'm clumsy and don't want to ruin them:

and the cake set, you can see how bad they need a polishing jk, they were an older model I guess. oh well its a bargain any way you look at it!

I bought one of these vases at herbergers:

I also was given loads of decorations from my sisters wedding.
I took her extra napkins and stamped them and I want to put the date on there too (the only really crafty thing I've done so far!)

I bought these shoes in silver (Chinese Laundry- Balwin)

And last but not least my ring I am one spoiled lil girl! (I traded in some diamonds to pay half so it wasn't THAT bad!):

 ***** UPDATE!!**********

here are all of the things I have made so far! I'm almost got everything done!

Stickers for our favors, cup cake in a jar

card box

cake topper:

the corsages and bouts I made (all in one evening)

my Bouquet:

the one floral piece that got carried away!

I made this shadow box for our picture, its some of the roses he has given me:

I decided I really didn't like the stamped napkins so I sent these through my cuttle bug to match the invites!

And at last, my dresses. I decided I wanted a short dress for the reception/museum!

C+C welcome and thanks for looking!
2  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Weddings and Bridal Showers / California Residents! help please! on: March 16, 2010 06:28:47 AM
I'm planning on getting married on 10-10-10 (of course) but the only thing is I don't have a venue!
I'm only having about 20 people and want a bar or restaurant, we are all over 21, that has a patio or a roof top. Any one know of such a place?

I was really hoping to book the Chabot space and science center's planetarium (we are huge geeks) but is $5000!!! Thats almost my WHOLE budget! for that kind of money we can buy our own telescope!

I'm from North Dakota originally and I really have no clue where to look for a venue! My fiance is from California and wants to get married there!

thank you!!

ps I'll be posting an official wedding blog tonight after school, but now I have to pretend to be an adult going back to school!
3  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Completed Projects / Hair school crafts! on: August 28, 2009 07:17:45 PM
HI there, I recently started hair school and I needed to craft up my boring necessities for school! I know how some people think hair dressers are sometimes dumb or dingy but please remember I'm a crafter so I'm different!! jk. so here we go!

to start off I would like to show my quilted planner cover! I just couldn't have a naked planner!!

and the inside:
(the planner is in there wonky, I promise the cover its self is straight!

next are two of my many name tags we have to wear:

This is just a plain bag that my mom bought me on sale at target. I needed a book bag and yellow is my fav color!! I did a t-shirt transfer of the schools logo since I love displaying it!!

here is my ledger for my hours, I did go to office depot and bought one but who wants one of those?

the inside:

and then the back cover with the schools logo once again!

last but not least here is what my apron is made out of:

yup its a target shower curtain!
and here is the apron its self!

I made it long because I am such a tall person that the regular aprons don't even cover my thigh...

here is the lil pocket I put in so I could carry my phone.... shh don't tell!

oh and one more thing!
I had plenty of vinyl shower curtain left so I made a make up roll, its great, just spray down your brushes and put them in their lil slot! I don't carry my good shears in the roll don't worry they have their own padded case!

and here it is rolled up, with my name on the ribbon!

let me know if you have any other hairstylist ideas, I have 52 classmates I'll want to make christmas presents for!!

C+C welcome!

these are the bracelets linked and ready to wear!

here are some of my fav ones!

this one is the logo to the school I attend. My mom went there in 1972!!!

the one on the left says "dye hard:protect your roots" tee hee
and here are some pendants I made for my friends at school:

I know this one was off center but she didn't care she said "who cares it's free"

5  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / Classic car purse! on: August 28, 2009 01:27:40 PM
hi there, I was walking through JoAnn fabric with my mom when I came across this great chevy fabric. I'm GM,PPG and ASE certified in Auto Body and it just so happens I have a 57'chevy and a genuine chevrolet tattoo on my arse!! so I HAD to make a purse out of it. luckily my mom was making a diaper bag for my sister at the time so I just stole that pattern and made this one at the same time she was making the other one! (bonding through sewing!!!) my man is a mopar fan so I'll have to find Dodge Charger fabric soon to make another one! Other than being car fabric it has a lining of pockets so I absolutely LOVE IT!! My mom sent me the matching bi-fold wallet to match! I love my family!!!! ok enough of the rant! onto the pictures!

INside: (excuse my crap everywhere)

matching wallet!

6  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General / resin fun! (image obese) on: August 27, 2009 12:05:28 PM
I have used resin before in the body shop in fiber glass, bondo and glues but it never occurred to me that I could pour it into a mold. so once I researched it I found that I loved it. the smell doesn't bother me because of the before mentioned occupation! so here is my creations, not too exciting I warn you!

1'' plugs for my ears, sorry about the crap picture I was sealing them!

sea shells

another sea shell

sea star

butterfly necklace! I used the same flake (aka glitter) that I used to paint one car and my wheels and gas cap cover with! I still have a whole bunch of it left!

heart earrings with the same flake!

name tags for my friends at school ( we have to by law wear name tags at hair school!)

the back of the name tag!

my name tags.

my fav name tag!! comb and a hair dryer! (I'm always loosing my name tags!)

the yellow one was the "standard" name tag you get when you start, mine was too booooring!

Herein out are just the fun I had making random stuff!

ok thats quite enough you get the gist!
every thing is sanded and polished before I give them away so please keep that in mind!
C+C welcome!!
7  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / Bi fold wallet with key loop! on: August 27, 2009 11:47:12 AM
A few years ago I bought some Clinique make up and as a free gift I received a lil bi-fold plastic wallet! I have since destroyed that poor lil thing. the pockets tore out and the out side ripped. I guess thats the price I pay for being a tomboy and working in the body shop with it in my back pocket Sad.
any who I made one, trying different stitches on my "new sewing machine" my mom's old one! this guy was the first attempt, cotton from a quilt I made years ago, next time I will line it with fleece!

and then open:

(please excuse the green hair in my license, I'm in hair school so I thought it would be fun...)

Next I made one out of corduroy to match a bag I made. they bag ended up really slouchy and not firm enough for my taste, so once I re-vamp that with stabilizer I'll have pics. The corduroy seems to be more durable even though I didn't use fleece or a stabilizer!

here is the owl and pink version:

and open!

the pockets on this one is deeper just in case!

I received this is in the mail today my mom came across the pattern I made for the first two and she made me a chevy one from left over fabric from my chevy purse!!!  she is thee best mother ever! any who:

and the inside!

8  CROCHET / Crochet: Completed Projects / Tute for the "hats for classmates" img heavy!!! on: August 26, 2009 04:06:16 PM
hi again. I posted some pics of the hats I made for my classmates and here is the tute to make the general hat shape. they are all made the same starting from brim to top. I'm not a professional and I've never read a pattern before so if any thing confuses you please let me know! ready? set? crochet!

here is the final hat I made today for myself, I like them snug on my head but there are so many options to make it your own!

This is pretty easy if you can chain stitch and double crochet in a circle and skip stitches (on purpose, dun dun dahhhh!)

so here we go:
step one gather your supplies, I used Hobby Lobby's baby bee sweet delight, but hearts and soul would be just as easy, keep in mind the smaller the yarn the more work you will have! and not to mention more lil holes. so if thats what you want go for it. the panda hat on my first post was made with a thick yarn so the holes are hard to see. Keep in mind also that the size of your yarn will decide the size of your needle!

as you can see I used the h/5mm

step two:

start with a slip stitch! proceed to single crochet a chain...

.....to fit around your noodle/noggin/melon. with the tiny yarn I used mine was 100sc

step three:

loop your needle back through the first stitch. make sure that it is straight to prevent the frustration of re doing it!

step four:

I crocheted around the ring again to add thickness so it doesn't look so sloppy when your done!

step five:

ok now that your frustrated with the lil yarn..... you can single crochet twice off into space. or three times depending on how big you want the holes in your hat. I did two single crochet here in this picture:

this will start the pattern of the hat, I double crocheted every other stitch but if you want the holes bigger like this one:

skip two or three stitches and do your double crochet. make sure to compensate for the skipped stitches with a single crochet. Yarn over, and double crochet in your next chosen stitch!

step six:

your first row should look something like this:
like a lil ladder! ok now to do the rest of the rows you double crochet in the gap from the first row.( just like a granny square)

step seven:
keep going around and around (like a record baby) until you have reached the length you want or if you want to change colors! should look like:

to change colors I take the new yarn and loop it through the loop I just made, like this:

I hope this makes sense, but you just make a new loop out of your new color and continue on with that color.

step eight:

ok so you go along doing your double crochet until you want to start closing up the top, to do that just skip a gap!

step nine:
keep skipping holes systematically so it will look something like this:

step ten:
Almost done!
keep going!

step eleven:
keep the spiral going until you run out of room!

step twelve:
weave in any loose yarn from color changes and the start and the end and enjoy!!

special note:
This hat is meant to be personalized so make it as big, small, long, short as you want! to make the holes bigger just add more double crochets to the gap ( like grannie squares) if you try this please post it so I can see!

Here are the extras!! easy peasy add ons!!

I made a lil pink hat as my example. It took me 20 minutes so please no comments on it, I know its not my best work! its just an example of how to use the add ons!

here is the Ruffle

around the bottom edge if there is a single crochet chain simply single crochet two off into space like this:

then double crochet in the next stitch, then single crochet one:

continue this all the way around the brim to create this:

just an example

on the crap example hat.

panda hat

ok you want to know how to make panda ears to sew to the top of your hats??

single crochet a chain to the desired width. flip with no turning stitch and continue to make a triangle!

I made a tiny one just for example!

now if you sew it on like this (with the same yarn and a yarn needle) you get lil round ears like the panda hat:

or you can sew it on like this to make kitty ears!:

like sew...tee hee...

ok let me know if any of this makes sense! C+C Welcome!
9  CLOTHING / Shoes: Completed Projects / Ruby slippers from strippers heels!! on: August 25, 2009 09:46:11 PM
For halloween last year I wanted to be dorothy from the wizard of oz and there is no dorothy without the ruby slippers! I couldn't find a pair of ruby slipper heels that I liked so I thought why not make some? I had this pair of lucite heels laying around like these:
the ones I have are shorter than those pictured above but you get the idea!

I worked at a automotive paint supply store at the time and I painted them with PPG "ruby slippers" its a red candy paint with TONS of red flake in it. sadly the metallic wouldn't show up at night so I then glued on red craft glitter! and viola ruby slippers for halloween!

and the action shots, blurry and zoomed out but you get the idea!
