3  CROCHET / Crochet: Completed Projects / Afghans on: May 13, 2011 08:49:12 AM
So I've become a bit obsessed with making afghans. I think I like the fact that it's a project that doesn't take just a day and it's so satisfying after you finished. These are my two most recent let me know what you think.

This one was a stashbusting afghan that made a considerable dent in my yarn collection. It's all acrylic of various brands from other projects I've done throughout the years:

This one is made from Vanna's Choice yarn with this pattern: http://www.lionbrand.com/patterns/L0057AD.html?noImages=
I made it longer than the pattern calls for and it's HUGE I layed down on it and it's taller than me. I'm trying to figure out if I want to put a border on it and maybe add more rows but for now it's done until I can decide on both of those....Oh and the dark blue is actually a purple it didn't photograph very well:

4  COOKING / Dessert / Re: Royal Blue Velvet Cupcakes with Fudge Filling on: May 04, 2011 07:37:53 PM
Thanks everyone! And jennythor, since the fondant is basically just marshmallow and powdered sugar it is very sweet and it certainly doesn't taste horrible (unlike other fondants I've had) but I definitely didn't like it better than regular frosting. Still I think I'll only ever use it for small accent decorations.
5  COOKING / Dessert / Royal Blue Velvet Cupcakes with Fudge Filling on: April 29, 2011 08:47:56 PM
So my friends and I had a Royal Wedding Viewing party this evening in celebration of Kate and Will's Wedding and I was in charge of the cupcakes! They're red velvet cupcakes (dyed blue instead of red to make them royal) filled with chocolate fudge and topped with cream cheese frosting. Everything was made from scratch and they were amazing! The cake and frosting recipe were from America's Test Kitchen Family baking book, and the fudge recipe was from this blog that I can't find right now and I'm too tired to keep looking for. I'll post a link when I find the blog again. http://theflourishingfoodie.wordpress.com/ the only modification I did was i only used a third fo the chocolate the recipe calls for and 3 Tbsp of flour instead of 2.

Oh and the decorations are made from marshmallow fondant. Onto the pictures!

All of them on display on my awesome cupcake stand:

It was my first time using a piping bag to put the frosting on instead of just using a knife and I have to say I loved the way it looked. Well that's all let me know what you think.

This is such a great design! I've wanted to try doing something similar to this with cookies for friends, but I was just going to put the cookies in a regular basket this is a much better idea.

9  HOME SWEET HOME / Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / Re: Custom Kitchenaid Mixer: Hawaii 5-0 Edition (lots o' pics!) on: January 10, 2011 06:54:13 AM
Aah I have wanted to do this since I scored a KitchenAid Mixer for $86 on Christmas Eve (here I am thinking that's an awesome deal and then I see you score one for $5 haha)

I would love to hear how it's holding up and if the paint is chipping off, what sealant did you use?
10  COOKING / Dessert / Happy Birthday Cookies on: January 09, 2011 12:52:12 PM
For my friend's birthday I decided to make her sugar cookies with the new cookie cutters I received for Christmas. I don't have very much experience decorating with frosting but thought I'd give it a go, and if I messed up well, it would still taste good right? The dog is supposed to be a beagle since that's the kind of dog she has.

I used this recipe for the cookies: http://allrecipes.com//Recipe/the-best-rolled-sugar-cookies/Detail.aspx
and this for the frosting: http://www.christmas-cookies.com/recipes/recipe288.powdered-sugar-icing-i.html

All the cookies together:
