1  Afghans in Crochet: Completed Projects by whyme81687 on: May 13, 2011 08:49:12 AM
So I've become a bit obsessed with making afghans. I think I like the fact that it's a project that doesn't take just a day and it's so satisfying after you finished. These are my two most recent let me know what you think.

This one was a stashbusting afghan that made a considerable dent in my yarn collection. It's all acrylic of various brands from other projects I've done throughout the years:

This one is made from Vanna's Choice yarn with this pattern: http://www.lionbrand.com/patterns/L0057AD.html?noImages=
I made it longer than the pattern calls for and it's HUGE I layed down on it and it's taller than me. I'm trying to figure out if I want to put a border on it and maybe add more rows but for now it's done until I can decide on both of those....Oh and the dark blue is actually a purple it didn't photograph very well:

2  Royal Blue Velvet Cupcakes with Fudge Filling in Dessert by whyme81687 on: April 29, 2011 08:47:56 PM
So my friends and I had a Royal Wedding Viewing party this evening in celebration of Kate and Will's Wedding and I was in charge of the cupcakes! They're red velvet cupcakes (dyed blue instead of red to make them royal) filled with chocolate fudge and topped with cream cheese frosting. Everything was made from scratch and they were amazing! The cake and frosting recipe were from America's Test Kitchen Family baking book, and the fudge recipe was from this blog that I can't find right now and I'm too tired to keep looking for. I'll post a link when I find the blog again. http://theflourishingfoodie.wordpress.com/ the only modification I did was i only used a third fo the chocolate the recipe calls for and 3 Tbsp of flour instead of 2.

Oh and the decorations are made from marshmallow fondant. Onto the pictures!

All of them on display on my awesome cupcake stand:

And close ups of the 3 fondant designs

It was my first time using a piping bag to put the frosting on instead of just using a knife and I have to say I loved the way it looked. Well that's all let me know what you think.

3  Happy Birthday Cookies in Dessert by whyme81687 on: January 09, 2011 12:52:12 PM
For my friend's birthday I decided to make her sugar cookies with the new cookie cutters I received for Christmas. I don't have very much experience decorating with frosting but thought I'd give it a go, and if I messed up well, it would still taste good right? The dog is supposed to be a beagle since that's the kind of dog she has.

I used this recipe for the cookies: http://allrecipes.com//Recipe/the-best-rolled-sugar-cookies/Detail.aspx
and this for the frosting: http://www.christmas-cookies.com/recipes/recipe288.powdered-sugar-icing-i.html

All the cookies together:

4  Anne with an E in Amigurumi: Completed Projects by whyme81687 on: April 05, 2010 11:34:29 AM
So after going through a time where everything I crocheted was for someone else I reserved the right to be selfish and make something for myself. So I made an Anne of Green Gables doll. She is currently residing on my bookshelf safeguarding her stories  Grin

I still want to make her a carpet bag but I haven't gotten around to it yet. Let me know what you think!

5  Snow Days and Hat Making go hand in hand! in Crochet: Completed Projects by whyme81687 on: February 10, 2010 07:58:31 AM
So my area has been hit with record breaking snow falls. Quite frankly as much as I love snow I'm sick of it and ready for it to stop. Being confined to my home has meant a return to crochet and cranking out hats like crazy. At first it was productive since last winter all my winter hats had shrunk in the wash and I really needed one but then it got a little excessive. Here are two of the completed hats modeled by my lovely sister. I made more but they're not complete yet.

This is my favorite one that I made and my entire family is fighting over it. I'm not sure if it looks too little girlish:

I've always wanted one with earmuffs so I had to make this. I used hand dyed yarn that I got in a swap:

6  Bitten Gingerbread Men in Polymer Clay: Completed Projects by whyme81687 on: December 23, 2009 06:39:46 PM
So after seeing these gingerbread men ornaments: https://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=330466.0 I knew I needed some of my own. However, I don't sew and I wanted an alternative so polymer clay it was! So I proceeded to make these for myself and for friends of mine. The best part about this was i was able to convince my SO to join me in making these and he made one for his boss who apparently loved it so always good! Okay onto pictures:

Because I had to have at least one:

And finally I made this for one of my close friends that recently got married. The letter's are their first name initials:

Thanks for looking Comments welcome!

7  And the Afghan is DONE! in Crochet: Completed Projects by whyme81687 on: November 18, 2009 02:19:21 PM
So one of my very close friends from college got married this past September. I wanted to give them something beyond the typical registry gifts. I decided to make them an afghan for the wedding out of their favorite colors hers, purple his Blue. I used this http://web.archive.org/web/20010711184037/members.aol.com/lffunt/spanish.htm pattern for the squares. I honestly don't know why I thought making an afghan out of granny squares was going to be a good idea I hate granny squares. I hate the monotony mostly. It took me about 7 months to make but that was with substantial periods where I did nothing. I have since taken a break from crocheting since I'm sick of just staring at the same pattern Cheesy

Onto the pictures! (It looks a bit wonky but it's really not that bad in real life)

Thanks for looking! Comments and criticism welcome!
