11  Re: Ongoing ATC Swap - JUNE, 2011 in The Swap Gallery by sabrinalouisemiller on: August 10, 2011 11:18:41 AM
I just got back from my vacation so have two cards to post - although I saw that blupaisan posted the skeleton card for me already. Wink

I love the poledancing skeletons so much, and the "Totally Naked" is hilarious, and let me tell you something else that no one on this site knows: I design sets and costumes for a male strip club sometimes! This card is tailored just for me!

The other card that I got was another skeleton theme, and also a pop up!!
Here is the front:

and here it is when opened (this is a scan, so the card itself isn't this blurry) the reddish background has bones on it

Also I'm really glad that Gozer and LindsayLoo like their cards. Swaps are fun!

I got this 1984 card from mxer145 for my literature theme. I love the image with the text from the novel superimposed onto it. Thanks mxer!

14  Puzzle Ball + Baby = Happiness! in Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects by sabrinalouisemiller on: June 29, 2011 06:52:55 AM
I saw this post https://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=375342.0 a while ago and was fully intrigued with what was called the Amish Puzzle Ball.
Smallhold led me to this post https://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=368435.0 which leads to a tutorial on how to make one etc. and I decided to give it a go. After all, babies need toys, don't they?!

I used a 5" long by 2-5/8" marquis shape to make it, and 1/4" seam allowances, which made the ball 8" at its widest point.

The ball takes 12 "outer" fabrics, so I chose three colours (red, blue, yellow) and found 4 different fabrics for each colour in my stash. I wanted as much texture as possible so spent a good amount of time looking at fabrics and their combinations.

The fabrics I used were as follows:
REDs - satin, flannelette, red chiffon on top of metallic gold tissue (so the gold shines through in the light) and a chinky cable knit section

BLUEs - shot taffeta, a very textured jersey knit, bonded sequin, and two layers of blue net over lycra

YELLOWs - felt, georgette over satin, quilting cotton, jaquard satin

The inner pieces are all made with a very soft zebra stripe velour.

Hit that ball, baby!

I didn't expect my baby to really play with this ball until she was much older, but at two months she seems to have a kind of interaction with it! She likes it when the ball is placed next to her on her blanket, and she waves her fist ferociously until she managed to hit it, then as it rolls away she smiles at it. It's hilarious to watch, especially since she has almost no control of her limbs so it's as much a shock to her as to me when she hits it.

Puzzle Ball + Baby = Happiness!!

Some tips!

* I really stuffed the shapes full - it takes a lot of batting! This makes it so that the ball bounces a bit on a hard surface, but makes sewing together the final ball much harder. If you want to have an easier time of it, I would not stuff the shapes to full capacity.
* Interface any fabrics that have stretch to them, so that when you stuff the shapes they do not get misshapen.
* be aware of nap directions on fabrics with pile
* use a heavy duty or upholstery thread to sew the stuffed shapes together

I got my kawaii themed card and boy does it live up to its name! It is SO CUTE!

The colours are gorgeous and the bumblebee's travel line is actually holes puched in the card. Genius.
Thanks so much kwality570!

(I also feel that I should add that kwality was so kind in sending the card out as soon as she could because she knew that post to Canada takes a long time from her place, and that I got the card ages ago and have just not gotten around to the simple task of posting it. Who knew that being pregnant stops your brain from working? Well, I know now!)

Got my last card from LocaandBean!

Sorry about the fuzzyness - my scanner doesn't like 3-D things. Wink It's on my "Buttons" theme and I really like the idea of a button flower garden.

Woot for cards!
Here's my card from RamonaQ - it is just lovely! The colour combo is so fun.  Using old sheet music for the portraits of Marie Antoinette is such a cool idea, and the embellishments in silver and gold etc. are great! I am such a sucker for sparkly and shiny things.  Roll Eyes
Thanks fellow Canuck!

I got my first Feb card today! It is themed on anything Japanese from blupaisan, and I LOVE the technique that she devised for it - she replicated part of a Japanese print onto a bamboo background. So cool!

Isn't it great? The texture of the bamboo must have been so hard to paint on but really brings life to the card.

And suereal, I'm really glad that you liked your card! I thought you would from the little I found on your profile etc, but you never can tell until it is made and sent.
Keep up the amazing, everyone!

My printer is fixed! This means that I was finally able to scan cards that got here ages ago and give proper thanks!

First of all, I got a beautiful illustration from WideEyedLife on masks theme. I love that you are a digital artist! If she hadn't told me it would have taken me a little while to figure out, especially because she added some depth and texture with coloured pencils. Nice job. Cheesy

And then I got a cute "stars" themed card from elliot-anne - the stars are from a bath bomb. Neat!

Hey, I got a card from Jessieben today!
I am truely in love with her - she is much lovlier than my scanner is allowing. It washed out the gold, and the brad which allows the head to get chopped makes it impossible for a flat bed scanner to get an in-focus scan - but I think you'll still be able to see the awesome!

I present: Marie Antoinette

But then she was split in twain by the Revolutionaries!

and I just really appreciate how gorgeous her plume of blood is! And she's still smiling. What a trooper. Wink

I also got some fun ephemera - thanks again Jessie!
