1  HOME SWEET HOME / Crafty Housewares: Discussion and Questions / food-safe sealant? on: December 28, 2003 07:47:37 PM
I bought this bagel-holder-slicer thing for $3 at Odd Job, and though it looked to be made of wood on the package, it turns out to be MDF or some such particle board. So, I'd like to paint it to hide some of its ugliness.

What sort of sealer should I use over the paint? Polyurethane? I was planning on using water-based paint, like acrylic.

I was hoping for something safe - I'm thinking it might get chipped at some point as it is a kitchen item and there will be knives involved. Do they make products specifically for this, like for painting cutting boards and stuff?
2  CLOTHING / Clothing: Discussion and Questions / Umbrella -> Skirt on: December 19, 2003 01:48:07 PM
Anyone made the umbrella skirts in Readymade #6? (no pictures on their website, unfortunately.) My umbrella busted last week and I took it apart in hopes of making one of these.

Anybody done it? Or is this a lame idea?
