1  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / My first ever cross stitch... on: November 10, 2009 02:47:34 AM
I really enjoyed this - found it very relaxing. I keep thinking I was going to stuff up - but I didn't and think it is cute. It will be framed and put in my little girls room. I already have another lined up and ready to start! This one is 10cm by 10cm, so only very small Smiley (I still need to rub out the lines where I had to find the centre!)

2  HOME SWEET HOME / Interior Decorating: Discussion and Questions / Need help! Dining area is a DISASTER! (img heavy) on: November 06, 2009 05:15:16 PM
Well - my whole house needs a makeover, but first of all I have this room that is in desperate need of help!

Yes - bad, I know. We have not long moved in, and it is rented. The carpets are awful - I have a carpet cleaner coming through on Monday, hopefully that will help! I am at a loss of what the colour theme should even be, since there is a purpley/brown feature wall, and our furniture is assorted. I would really love a new dining table, but our funds don't allow for one at the moment. Any ideas what I could do with the current one? Can I paint it? It is like a high gloss, colour grey  Huh Plus, I need something under it, before the kids spill stuff on the already ruined carpet!

The curtains are ours, and they cost me a small fortune when I brought them, so I would like to incorapte them into the room. Maybe recon them? But how - I don't know! This is a pic of the main window - alot of sun comes in here, making it hot - but I love having the curtains open because I love natural lighting.

This chair is part of our lounge suite but it wont fit into the main lounge - I would love to recover it but I have never recovered a thing in my life! And because they were orginally my parents, I don't want to chance wrecking it. Maybe make some lounge slips instead? PS - It is a recliner, but is never used as one. My hubby only uses it if he wants to watch something on free to air tv, since we can't pick it up in the main lounge. Plus the kids play the N64, but they sit on the floor Tongue

This is our display cabinet, which we got for a wedding present. In the glass doors, I have the kids christening things, plus our wedding things. Then, I have kinda filled the rest up with crap, because I don't really know what else to put on it? I am one of these people where everything has to match - maybe I need to get over that??? Cheesy

So, as you can see - it is a disaster! Please help! Any ideas, or colour theme suggestions are greatly appreciated, thanks Cheesy I would like to keep it on the cheaper side, but the more I look at the room, I don't think that is going to happen!
3  CLOTHING / Clothing for Kids: Completed Projects / Dress for my daughter :) on: November 04, 2009 08:10:59 PM
My daughter dosen't have many clothes, so I decided to make this dress for her today out of an old top of mine :

It had heart shapped holes in it, but when I made it into the dress I ended up with the hearts facing upside down. But when she is wearing it you can't notice! I sewed the little butterfly onto the neckline cause I botched it just a tad. I orginally made her a halterneck but it was too big, so I just decided on simple straps. I really like it, just hope she dosent grow too much too quickly, I guess I could of made it a tad longer. I didnt use a pattern, just made it up as I went along. I pretty much got her measurements spot on by guestimating - I did it all while she was asleep bar the straps!

Here is a pic of the top before:

Thanks for looking - CC appreciated, I am a beginner sewer Smiley
4  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / Unflattering skirt to useful bag on: November 04, 2009 04:50:09 PM
I had in my closet a khaki green 3/4 length skirt which was very unflattering seeing as I am quite short. I needed a bag large enough to hold all of my assorted belongings, plus some nappies, wipes etc. So, I whipped this up:

This is a photo of me wearing the skirt - you can't see how awful it really was though Tongue

Thanks for looking - I am very pleased with it, I am relativly new to sewing, so I am trying to find various things to practise with! I was going to stencil something onto it, but a) I think it would bunch up and you wouldnt really see it, and b) I don't want to ruin it!
5  PAPER CRAFTS, SCRAPBOOKING & ATCs (ARTIST TRADING CARDS) / Artist Trading Cards (ATCs) / My very first ATC on: November 01, 2009 03:42:14 AM
I decided to have a crack at making an ATC, and well...guess I will be addicted now Smiley
I call it 'Pieces of My Life' (well how I predict the rest will be also lol) Tongue
I just used coloured pencils, a black pen and a black Nikko - not the most creative, but was just going for simple for my first!

6  Halloween / Halloween Costumes / My daughters last minute costume on: October 31, 2009 02:37:40 PM
OK, so I was told at 4pm yesterday there was a halloween disco at my sisters work and it started at 6.30pm. My kids really wanted to go so I agreed. My 7 year old just wanted to be a pirate, which was easy cause he already had a costume. My 4 year old wanted to be Diego, which was also easy cause he had a costume. My DH said just dress my 2 year old as a fairy, but instead I whipped out my sewing machine and an old top of mine that was in my reconstruction box. Finished off with some ribbon and a piece of old dowel, I came up with this...

I also made some wings out of black cardboard and covered them in glitter, but couldn't get a photo because she broke them within 5 seconds - note to self next year, buy more duct tape.

Thanks for looking Smiley
7  HOME SWEET HOME / Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / Reconstructed Curtains made from all sorts on: October 30, 2009 04:11:56 AM
I am in the process of redorating my daughters bedroom. The first thing that needed fixing was the curtains.

BEFORE - I purchased these curtains on clearance from Target. Behind them is the vertical blinds. Together, it gave the room an orangey glow, which I hated Sad

AFTER - I wanted her room to have a light glow. The sheer curtains are from the nearest op shop - $2AU. The purple ones are made from an old bedsheet I had at the bottom of the linen cupboard. The curtain ties are made from scraps of white felt and a ribbon I had laying around. The flowers at the top were lights I purchased for my wedding that I never used, I just cut the electricity cord off and draped them over. I took the photo at night.

I am very pleased with the results, considering this was one of my first 'biggest' sewing projects Smiley
Thanks for looking Smiley

I started digital scrapbooking about 6 months ago. These are a few layouts I have done over those 6 months. I tried regular scrapbooking, but was only good at making a mess Undecided
