41  Re: $4.95 Swap AKA Fill a SMALL Flat Rate Box Gallery of Goodness in The Swap Gallery by flower on: November 17, 2009 09:53:30 AM
What fabulous treasures!  I received from loudxmouse yesterday and the package is AWESOME!!!  I feel very, very spoiled.  On to the pictures!

fabrics: forest green velvet, cheetah, black canvas with vinyl backing, daisy & tulip.  I can hardly wait to use them!  They are great.

embroidery patterns: 4 different alphabet transfers, adorably whimsical tea towel transfers.  The theme is "An Oldfashioned Melodrama".  It is precisely my style.  I'm so thrilled!!!

notions: vintage buttons and charms, "made with love by:" tags, 1" elastic, gingham ribbon, Christmas-themed bias tape (very cute), a tea light, and fabulous orange tulle.

When I saw all the fiber, I gasped.  Just this month, I became addicted to needle felting.  loudxmouse is incredibly generous.  My terrible cell phone camera does not do these pictures justice.  The fiber is a lovely, deep purple and green color palette.  These are my mother's favorite colors, so now I MUST make her something!  Grin  She said the fibers came from her stash and loves2experiment's stash.

Here is the lovely fiber hand-carded by loudxmouse.  Isn't it lovely?

loudxmouse, thank you so much for the beautiful treasures!  I Thank you also for feeding my new addiction! I feel so very, very, very spoiled.   Cheesy

p.s.  loudxmouse, if you have better pictures, especially of the fibers, feel free to post them!

I did a baby themed swap with belladune and I'm FINALLY posting pictures.  Sorry for the delay!

Anyway, belladune is not only talented, but also really nailed my tastes.  Check out all the fabulous crafty goodness!

A lovely scrapbook!  Sorry, I forgot to rotate the picture.   Roll Eyes  I love it because I'm scrapbooking impaired.  I can only do the basics.  The rest drives me crazy.  She made each page very simple so I don't get overwhelmed.  Isn't she clever?

A needle felted baby rattle!  She put something small (beads?) inside an Easter egg, closed it, and needle felted around it.  The felt is super-tight around the egg.  There is no way those beads are coming out.  Isn't it gorgeous?  I absolutely love it.

A fabric container embroidered with monsters!!  It is so cute. It is already full of diapers, wipes, and ointment.

I absolutely love everything.  Thank you, belladune!

44  Autism & Asperger swap? in New Swap Theme Ideas by flower on: October 03, 2009 11:40:43 AM

Anyone interested in an Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) themed swap?

Do you know a child with autism or a parent, teacher, or therapist that cares for such a child?  Then this swap is for you!

Craft ideas for a child:
a special toy
therapy items such as weighted lap pads, I Spy bags, picture schedules, "fidgets" toys to keep little hands busy, etc.
Clothing - When I was searching the web for the image above, I saw a quote that said, "I'm not misbehaving.  I have autism.  Please be understanding."  That would go great on a t-shirt!

Craft ideas for an adult:
Autism awareness bag or t-shirt
a care package for an adult caretaker (after a rough day with my son, I want herbal tea, bubble bath, and chocolate!)
Puzzle piece jewelry
EDIT: I just thought of another thing.  If you have any used books to pass on to others, they might be greatly appreciated!
So what do you think?  Anyone interested?

45  Quick & Easy Wicket the Ewok in Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects by flower on: August 09, 2009 05:43:40 AM
My son just had his 4th birthday.  He is currently obsessed with Wicket the Ewok from Empire Strikes Back.  I looked around for toy options and didn't find many.  There is a cute crochet pattern somewhere on Craftster, but I don't know how to crochet.  The vintage ones on Ebay are ugly and overpriced and the one at StarWars.com doesn't ship until August 15, which is too late.  So, I made my own by revamping a $3 teddy bear from the Dollar General Store.

Here he is!

1) started with a teddy bear:

2) Use a seam ripper and removed the white portion of his face.  He should look like this:

3) Now that you have access to the inside of the bear, use garden pruners and snipped off his safety eyes.  They are HARD to get off!

4) Replaced the little eyes with larger doll eyes that looked more Wicket-like.  I only had creepy green ones, so I used brown nail polish and clear sealant to make them brown.

5) Now close up the huge, gaping hole.  Put a running stitch all the way around the hole.  Pull both ends of the running stitch like a draw-string purse.  Once you have closed the hole completely, tie off the threads.

6) Make a nose using felt and a little stuffing.  Sorry, I can't really give you any more guidance than that.  Just fiddle with it until you make something that works.  Hand stitch the nose to the bear.

7) Now for the mouth.  Take two rectangles of brown felt.  Roll each of them up to make the upper and lower lips of the Ewok.  Hand stitch them to the face.

Cool Teeth: Take two squares of white fabric.  Sew them right-sides together.  Turn them right side out.  Stitch down the middle to make two teeth.  Stitch the rest of the opening closed.  Glue or stitch the teeth between the lips.

9) Cape: I'm not sure how to describe this.  I used two pieces of felt and shaped them around the head, cutting away fabric as needed.  Then I used embroidery floss to stitch the pieces together.

Total cost, including supplies: $5.50

I received from Casey1201 yesterday, but it was a chaotic day and I didn't get a chance to post until now.  Casey sent me the coolest stuff!

She sent an adorable needlebook with SPARKLY fabric!  I love sparkles.  She also sent ribbon, floss, cute little baby boy-themed whimsies since I am pregnant with a little boy, a fluffy purple thread (I can't wait to use it), and the funniest thing, a bookmark that says "I'm so crafty I make people".  I love it!  Thanks for everthing, Casey! I had a Badge-A-Minit to give away, so ClonedBravo agreed make a wallet for it in a private swap.  Before I show you the wallet, I have to give you some background info.  I have been COVETING this bag:

from this Etsy shop: www.robinseggblue.etsy.com

But, I NEED the "perfect" diaper bag.  You know, a bazillion bottle pockets, etc.  So, I purchased just the matryoshka patches from her and decided to make the rest.

O.K.  Back to the wallet.  I asked ClonedBravo to make a wallet that coordinated with the matryoshkas.  I think she did a great job!  I think the fabric she used is vintage.  It is sturdy and substantial.  It is also the BEST WALLET I HAVE EVER OWNED!  This wallet is incredibly roomy.   It has slots/pouches for everything.  I am so impressed.

Check it out:

I couldn't get any good inside pictures with my cell phone camera, but you can see ClonedBravo's pics as well as a link to the pattern/tutorial here:

Thank you, ClonedBravo!  You rock!

I received from jessa_aka_jalapeno today!  What a great stash of craft supplies!!

First, I must apologize for two things.  1) My cruddy cell phone pics, and 2) forgeting to rotate the pictures!  I'm such a dork.  Tongue

Embroidery supplies:  I needed a hoop this size and I am THRILLED to get the vintage iron-on transfers!

Lace, lots and lots of it!  I was just looking for lace the other day and didn't have any.  Jessa can read minds.   Wink

Beads and jewelry findings, buttons, and some lovely shells I forgot to photograph.

A great variety of fabric!  I am super-low of fabric.  These will definitey get used.

AND NOW MY FAVORITE TWO ITEMS!!  UNDYED ROVING AND JAPANESE MATRYOSHKA FABRIC THAT I HAVE BEEN COVETING!  ISN'T IT GORGEOUS?  I ordered felting needles in anticipation of the roving.  I really, really want to learn needlefelting.  I'm so thrilled!  I'm buying Kool-Aid today so I can dye the wool.

Thank you, Jessa!  You rock!

49  Re: Once You Pop Swap Round 9- Summer Edition Gallery in The Swap Gallery by flower on: July 13, 2009 06:52:41 AM
I drove to the post office early this morning to pick up baby chicks (my husband's), and what do you think I found?  My package from Michela!  I wasn't anticipating it...I really thought my package would get to Michela first.  What a wonderful surprise!

This package is truly amazing.  Michela was so thoughtful in her project selections.  Everything is beautiful and "just right" for my children and me.  Thank you so much, Michela!  This is honestly the best swap package I have ever received.

Now on to the goodies!

The can is decorated in a gardening motif and has my name, "Rose" on it.  The flower on top is also a pin!!  This picture doesn't do it justice but all I have right now is a cell phone camera.  Sad

The jewelry: Michela sent several pairs of gorgeous earrings, a rose necklace with fresh water pearls, a lovely blue bracelet, and adorable hair clips (I'm wearing the yellow flower clips now!)

Shrinky Dink Garden Stakes: Michela left them un-shrunk so I could add the flower names.  How thoughtful!

Tiny Robert Munsch Children's books, a notebook made of old gift cards (how cool!), and garden-themed marble magnets

Gorgeous cross-stitch!  A bookmark with my name and a bumblebee for my unborn baby.  She left space so I could stitch on his name and then frame it.  How thoughtful!

Dinosaur bags for my little boys.  They will be so thrilled!  I've decided to keep the books and bags until the baby is born.  These will be nice little presents to give them when they visit us in the hospital.  Sorry about the wrinkles.  My husband was asleep and the ironing board is in our bedroom.

Thank you, Michela!

I picked up a bunch of these eyes at a garage sale yesterday!  I hope to share a few with my partner if she wants them.  They have a little snapping device that goes on the back.  I've used the same eyes (purchased last year on the say garage sale) on several stuffies and I love them!
