1  What came first? The chicken or the egg? in Crochet: Completed Projects by ilsepielse on: September 13, 2010 03:30:14 AM
It's one of life biggest questions: What came first? The chicken or the egg? (question #2 is of course 'why did the chicken cross the road?')
I decided to take a spin on that question and crocheted my own answer, which is: 'both!'  Cool

Now, I made this as a test (didn't know if it would work), while watching tv. So the egg isn't exactly egg-shaped and maybe the chick's wings aren't the same size... but that doesn't matter: I answered one of life's biggest questions! Cheesy

(and yes, that's me, and yes, the pics aren't that good Tongue)

#1: The chick

#2 Turning the chick into....

#3 An egg (or something like it)

#4 And this is what is looks like when you don't stuff the egg inside the chick or the chick inside the egg.

So, the turning thing worked out. Now I can make a better version... or just leave it at this and try something else! Cheesy

2  Re: Sock Monkey/ Sock Critter Gallery in The Swap Gallery by ilsepielse on: March 31, 2010 11:10:46 AM
I sent my monkey to Aneyhall today, and I was lucky: my monkey from Sofee came in the mail!! Yay!

She made me an Oscar Wilde monkey. Here he is, with the book I told Sofee I liked.

Doesn't he look distinguished? Cheesy

Around his neck he wears a necklace with (of course) the picture of Dorian Gray.

I really liked that Sofee made me a writer. It made me think: maybe I can design some Dutch writer-monkies Cheesy (I teach Dutch literature)

3  Re: Sock Monkey/ Sock Critter Swap (sign-up 02/13-02/27 sendout 03/31) in ARCHIVE OF SWAPS THAT ARE TOTALLY FINISHED by ilsepielse on: February 26, 2010 04:48:05 AM
I have one question: what is a small item?

a small is: Small (1 point) = 2 or less hours
              Small = $10 or less
Small = Earrings, stickers, wallets, pouches, bookmarks etc...

Hope that helps

Then I guessed it right Smiley

I have a book, 'Stupid sock creatures', that helped me create a lot of sockcritters. It's my sockbible Tongue

4  Giving socks for Christmas... in a different way! in Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects by ilsepielse on: February 25, 2010 03:50:09 AM
Last Christmas I surprised my brother and a friend with socks. But no ordinary socks! Sockmonsters! To be fair: they requested them, but they had no idea how the monsters would come out.

The most specific request was for 'Liegebeest', a character from an old tv show. His name translates like 'liar-animal'. This is the original:

And this is my version!

He's made from two green socks (with dark green heel and toes), has a knitted scarf and some buttons on his body. Liegebeest is quite big, about 30-35 cm I think.

Then I got some toesocks (actually worn by me), and made this dude:

My brother gave no specifics for this monster. He just wanted me to make him a sockmonkey or something, since my other brother and my parents already have their (classic) sockmonkies.

He totally loves the monster. He even made a digital monster from it!

Oh, and this little robot went to my niece for her birthday.

I think it's the first thing I sewed that wasn't a sock.

5  Re: The Long Awaited Poppet-Along in Craftalongs by ilsepielse on: February 10, 2010 07:25:37 AM
Last thursday I had my wisdomtooth removed, and I didn't have to work. I was high on painkillers, but I had some time to attend to my dear poppet!
Finally fixed her hair (it was a bit crooked), finished her knit dress (I recently learned myself how to knit) and made her knit underwear. Nice and warm! Shoes are in the making: crochet, in some funcolored yarn.
When her shoes are done I will post more pics. For now just one:

She still doesn't have a name yet. I was thinking about 'Loes' (Dutch name, pronounced like Lucy without the y) or something. Def. a short name. Any ideas? Smiley

The piggy is adorable!  It think she needs some little pink pigtails.  lol.

Thanks for all the nice comments!
And yes of course; she has a piggytail. Forgot to take a pic of that. Will do that with a nice pic of her clothes (she has a flowered dress and a crocheted bolero).

Update with pictures!

Her piggytail!

She looks a bit like a granny, right?

I like her, but I don't like the granny look haha! But when I add the (fur) hair it will change. And have some other fabrics for clothes too.

Yay! She is sitting next to me right now. Still bald (kinda like her that way, since she's a piggy) and naked, but that doesn't matter. I'm really happy with how she turned out! Pics will follow soon (only have them on my phone right now).
She is staring at me... think she doesn't really like the fact that she's naked.
Next: a dress! Cheesy

Update, now with pics!

Without limbs...

Subtle piggy nose

And there she is! My first poppet!

With a little help from the wall, she can stand up.

Gonna make her the easy peasy dress now. We'll be having visitors tomorrow, can't have her sitting around naked then, can I? Wink

8  Sockmonkey armystyle in Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects by ilsepielse on: July 08, 2009 09:22:26 AM
When my brother went to serve in Afghanistan for almost 5 months, I made him a little friend. I made it from my own socks, so it would also be a little me.
It was the second sockmonkey I ever made (and the second thing I ever made with my own sewingmachine). I like making them, they're easy and make a fun gift.

With my secondhand Pfaff Smiley

Bits and pieces

The final monkey

My brother was very pleased with the monkey, and it kept him company in his bunkbed there.

(sorry, new here, so can't post pictures yet, just links)
