32  Fancied up towels in Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: General by blue_lalita on: July 09, 2010 03:44:35 PM
I'm going to a bridal shower tomorrow, and I wasn't sure what to get as a gift because the couple hasn't registered and I had pretty short notice of the shower. I thought of what my favorite gift at my wedding shower was - really soft, nice white towels.  But I wanted to make them more unique and personalized, so I added a stripe of fabric near the ends.  I originally saw this idea on homemadebyjill, but I think she used kitchen towels.

The couple met in Japan, and have incorporated cherry blossoms into their wedding, so I thought this fabric would be perfect! I think it adds a great splash of color.

I received an amazing bellydance poppet from bobbiemay today! I love her so much.

Her outfit is incredible! She's got a really full circle skirt, choli, hipscarf and earrings.

Crazy eyes! Lol. I really love her hair - it's so soft!

Bobbiemay also sent me eyelashes, safety eyes, and... well, I'm not sure what the dangly red thing is (hip tie? necklace?) but it's really pretty and I adore it.

Thanks for the wonderful package bobbiemay!

Details of swap:
In this swap, one partner (the “crocheter”) will be crafting one large OR one medium and one small amigurumi (you can also discuss with your partner potential other sizes/combinations). The other partner (the “poppeter”) will be crafting one clothed poppet.  This is a great opportunity to craft what you’re good at, and receive something you don’t make yourself!

Sign-up limits:
Since each crocheter must be matched with a poppeter, it is important than we have the same number of each participating.  For that reason, sign-ups will initially be limited to 12 crocheters and 12 poppeters (for a total of 24 participants).  If there are more people interested, the limits will be expanded so long as the number of crocheters and poppeters are equal. If you are interested in swapping, but sign-ups are full, please still PM the questionnaire to the organizers, so we can keep track of interest and expand the sign-up limits if needed.

Things to keep in mind:

1. Flakers will not be tolerated.
2. This swap has a mandatory weekly check in. This means that you must post (at least) once a week in the discussion thread in order to keep both your partner and us, the organizers, in the loop as to how your crafting is progressing. We will be keeping a record of such posts and if you have poor communication, it will be noted in your feedback.
3. If you have not heard from your partner for awhile or notice that your partner has not been active on Craftster for a while, and you are feeling concerned, PM the organizers! Or if for any reason whatsoever you have concerns, feel free to PM us!
4. We will not approve anyone who has multiple feedbacks stating that they have poor communication, have not used a DC#, or have consistently been late senders.
5. Everyone is expected to send on time.  If you are going to be late, you must notify us ASAP (BEFORE the send-out date!). Those who are late and do NOT notify us, will receive negative feedback which will not be removed or corrected until we receive a DC# and the package is received by your partner.
6. When you send your package, PM the organizers and your partner to let them know it’s been mailed, and give them the DC# so they can track the package.
7.  Posting photos in the gallery is mandatory, and failure to do so will result in a comment in your feedback. If you do not have access to a camera, please contact your partner and ask if they can take pictures of both packages which they send/receive.
8. If you are an international swapper or sending internationally and are unable to get a DC#, you must retain a copy of your shipping receipt. If for any reason your package goes missing and you do not have a copy of the receipt to provide us the organizers, you will have to resend to your partner.

To contact the organizers, send a PM to blue_lalita and cc Ilianora.  In the subject line, put “Poppet/Amigurumi Swap” and “sign-ups,” “question,” “sent,” “received,” etc.

35  A poppet for a little girl in Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects by blue_lalita on: December 20, 2009 09:17:49 PM
I haven't posted in awhile, but I made a poppet for my niece for Christmas, and I wanted to share her because I think she's really cute! I still haven't managed to turn real fingers, but other than that I just love her - especially her pigtails!

36  Re: Jar of Whimsies 6 GALLERY in The Swap Gallery by blue_lalita on: September 09, 2009 07:08:22 PM
I received an amazing package from frogangel today!

She actually crafted me TWO wonderful containers! First, a cupcake giftbag:

And inside that, a crocheted cupcake box:

This is a shot of everything (including the inside of the cupcake, with clever little pockets):

Here's some detail shots.

Stickers, ribbon, embellishments, all sorts of whimsy goodness.

SO MANY BEADS! *drool*

Small crafted items. The flower and the jack-o-lantern are both pins.

This is crafted too, but didn't make it into the last picture.

Not included are close-ups of the fabric pieces, trims, and MANY scrapbook/decoupage papers.

I love everything in my "jar," but these are my favorites:

Frogangel and I also swapped memory cards with pictures of our hometowns/surrounding areas. She sent me a whopping 149 pics, but here are my three favorites:

Thank you frogangel! You were an awesome swap partner!

37  Dryad poppet for the Poppet Mini Swap in Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects by blue_lalita on: July 11, 2009 12:13:28 PM
For the recent poppet mini swap, I crafted a dryad / tree nymph poppet for averyg.  This was my second poppet, and she came out a lot better than my first! She was a lot of fun to make. I was a little over eager and packaged her up as soon as I finished, so all of these pictures were taken by averyg and used with her permission. I used the Elenore pattern on the poppet-along by craftewoman.

Her clothes are a simple bra with a snap in the back, and a handkerchief skirt with leaves hot glued on. I made the sandals with Sculpey to look like wood grain, then hot glued ribbons on.

Her eyes are actually dark green (hand painted), but it doesn't show up in the pictures. She has brown eyelashes, gold glitter eye liner, freckles, an earring, a necklace/choker and a tiara/head thingy.

Her ears are elf-like and sewn into the head seam. Her hair is two different yarns, a regular light yellow and a multicolored orangeish thick and thin yarn plyed with string that was a total pain to work with. I put fray check on the ends of the orange strands to keep it from unraveling. Each strand of hair was sewn on individually.

Averyg - they're my husband's  Grin It was the only box I could find that would fit her without being way too big! My husband is 6'6", and American size 13 shoes are actually kind of small for a guy his size  Grin  I'm glad you like her!

So... I also received my poppet from averyg today! And I LOVE her!

I asked for a fantasy themed poppet, and I received one of averyg's beautiful fairies! I've named her Zoe. This might be kind of weird, but I especially love her cute little ears!

She also came with removable fairy wings:

AND averyg included a second outfit, a ridiculously cute party dress!

Thank you so much! She's AWESOME!

39  Re: The Long Awaited Poppet-Along in Craftalongs by blue_lalita on: April 29, 2009 08:23:29 PM
This is my first poppet, Seafoam the water sprite.

I'm fairly happy with her, though I think I may have been overambitious by choosing the Elenore pattern for my first.  The weird boob wrinkle and extra-pointy hips are the biggest flaws that I want to avoid next time... though I think I will probably do a flat-chested poppet next.  Her dress is really a placeholder, as I had something completely different in mind, but I have the patience of a 3 year old!

40  10 Year Project in Needlework: Completed Projects by blue_lalita on: April 13, 2009 07:14:37 PM
I've been lurking for quite awhile on several different boards, but now that I've registered, I wanted to share this project.

My grandmother taught me how to embroider when I was about 14 or 15.  She found this peacock print in her sewing stash, so who knows how old it is! I worked on it off and on for about TEN YEARS, with several very long breaks.  I finally finished it a few months ago.

Some of the stitching from early on is pretty bad, and the back is an absolute mess.  I'm using it as a wall hanging because I didn't want it to be used or damaged.

As you can imagine, I felt a HUGE sense of accomplishment when I finished this!
