1  Cotton bedspread: a wedding present for my sister in Crochet: Completed Projects by Emileia on: January 03, 2010 04:38:40 PM
Hey craftsters,

I have been crocheting for a long time, off and on. My sister's wedding was coming up and I had no idea what I wanted to give her, because I wanted it to be special. So, I decided to crochet her a bedspread. I picked a square pattern, bought the yarn (about 9 14 oz. skeins of Sugar and Cream unbleached worsted weight cotton), and started the 6'x7' bedspread made of 12" squares. Unfortunately, after about a month of work, my sister called off the wedding because of her fiance's continuing mental health and related drug problems. This was a terrible tragedy for my family as well as her fiance's, but it became a cathartic task for me to finish her bedspread in time for when her wedding was supposed to be (June 2009). I finished it and gave it to her when she came to visit me in place of getting married.

I wish I had better pictures, but suffice it to say that this was truly a labor of love. I spent about four hours on each square, and there are 42 squares, and then I had to sew the squares together and make a border around the whole bedspread, so it took me a very long time, but it was definitely worth it.

Edit: I found better pics, and thanks to fantasticimo for making the other picture show up!

2  Costume Help! in Halloween Costumes by Emileia on: October 26, 2009 08:54:19 PM
So, I promised my boyfriend I would make him a Billy Idol costume in time for a production of Rocky Horror (Nov. 14th). The problem is he doesn't want any old Billy Idol costume; he wants to be Billy Idol from the video for "Dancing With Myself." While I'm glad this isn't for Halloween, I still have no idea where to start. In the video he wears a vest-like thing made out of what looks like rubber tubing. I am trying to decide what to do for tubing that would be kind of cheap and not too time-consuming. Here are some screenshots of the video.

For the interested: this is the video. It's pretty epic Tongue

Any ideas?

3  David Bowie papercuts, hand-bound in Paper Crafts: Completed Projects: General by Emileia on: May 03, 2009 10:50:56 AM
Hi guys,
So this semester I was in a class about paper and bookmaking. For my final project I was working on a popup storybook of the Rocky Horror Picture Show, but I had only done two pages (it's very time-consuming) and the project is due tomorrow, so yesterday I did this instead.
I made a stencil from David Bowie's face and cut it in a two layer format from different colors of cardstock. The margins of each page are different motifs.

The cover:

The red/orange page (margins decorated with sun and it's rays streaming down):

The orange/yellow page (margins decorated with fire and cloud of smoke):

The yellow/green page (margins decorated with grass and sky):

The green/blue page (margins decorated with the ocean):

The blue/black page (margins decorated with moon and stars):

Each papercut is glued down to half of an 8.5"x11" piece of handmade 100% cotton paper. The covers are also made of cardstock. I bound it with ribbon in a Japanese style binding, with the hemp-leaf binding pattern.
