4  CRAFTY BUSINESS ADVICE / Selling Crafts on Etsy.com / People like, but they just don't buy... what do I need to do? on: June 03, 2011 04:19:01 PM
This is my shop: http://www.etsy.com/shop/geekystitchery

I opened it back in October and I go through "spurts" of investing time into it.  For example I spent several hours yesterday promoting it and adding mini etsy items to my blog, livejournal, etc.  I get notices almost on a daily basis that someone favorited one, or more, of the items in my shop.

However, people are not buying.  I've only had 10 sales since I opened the shop.  I have more people "liking" than buying.   I'm looking for feedback.  How do you get people to buy?  I don't think $3.00 is unreasonable (heck, my mom told me I was selling them for too cheap!)  That $3.00 doesn't even reimburse me fully for the photo frames, staining prodcuts, fabric, or thread that goes into putting together the models after Etsy and paypal get their take.

What do I need to do?  Change?  Or should I just call it quits when these items expire in the next few months?
5  COOKING / Dessert / Angry Bird Cupcakes on: June 03, 2011 02:50:42 PM

Today is my husband's 26th birthday and every year I make him something.  Last year it was gigantic X-box pillows, that he loved so I knew I had to top last year.  However, he's such a difficult man to make things for (he doesn't think he is.  If only he knew the HOURS of thought and internet searching that goes into his gifts...)

Like 2/3 of America he's obcessed with Angry Birds and I stumbled across this blog (http://thecraftingchicks.com/2011/03/angry-birds-cupcakes.html) in my many hours of searching and thought that this lady was a GENIUS.  I couldn't find the right kind of sprinkles and I dyed 'em too dark but considering the fact that I've never tried anything of this scale before, I'm pretty darn pleased.  (And so is my husband).

I spent about $40 on supplies (since I didn't have anything except the cupcake pans) and 2.5 hours in the kitchen.  I have LOTS of leftover candy and so I probably make a few more batches in the next few weeks to use up the candy.

The whole army:

Up close and personal with those bad, bad pigs.  (The buck tooth ones are my fav):

A Sampling of Each:

Sorry about the poor quality of the photos but my camera is busted and his is dead, so I had to take them with my cell phone.  Let me know what you think!  Smiley
6  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / Anakin Skwaylker, Obi-Wan Kenobi, and Bail Organa on: May 08, 2011 10:49:24 AM
Teaser Photo:

Previously I had posted several Star Wars Cross Stitches that I had completed (https://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=364189.0)that consisted of two difference Princess Leias, two different Queen Amidalas, a Luke Skywalker, and a Han Solo.

Well I've been at it again!  This time I've completed 1 Anakin Skywalker, 1 Obi-Wan Kenobi (padawan), and 1 Senator Bail Organa.

Bail Organa in all his glory

Bail Organa framed in a 4x6 picture frame.

Padawan Obi-Wan Kenobi

Padawan Obi-Wan Kenboi framed in a 4x6 wodden frame.

Padawan Anakin Skywalker

All of my boys...

Pictured with Luke Skywalker...

The picture frames were purchased at IKEA at 3 for $1.50 and then I stained the wood myself.  I created the patterns myself using KG-Chart software.

Keep your eyes posted in the next few days for a Boba Fett (he's driving me crazy!) and Luke Skywalker in his farmboy outfit.

Thanks and I hope you enjoyed looking at my Star Wars cross stitch!
