1  a study in Polka Dots! in Needlework: Completed Projects by aecharjay on: January 12, 2011 07:29:46 AM
I'll admit it, I'm addicted. As soon as I had finished my first sampler I was already rifling through my house to find something else to embroider.

Originally this was not going to stay on the hoop, but I fell in love with the hot pink surrounding the colorful Polka Dots

Here are the Pics. I learned some new stitches!

This was so much fun to do!

2  Embroidered sampler, soon to be wallet! in Needlework: Completed Projects by aecharjay on: January 10, 2011 09:00:48 AM
For Christmas I received a book on embroidery, so I promptly started a sampler! my first foray into needlework!  Grin
I am very proud and want to show it off so I think I might use it to make a wallet. Any other ideas?

The gold, brown, and green part is my favorite!

3  Lacy shawl of fancy doom in Knitting: Completed Projects by aecharjay on: January 07, 2011 02:22:30 PM
I usually make small projects (mostly because I get bored) but love the lace shawls a see everywhere. I made one a while ago and it was a frustrating experience so its been a while since i've cast on for something this involved. I thought I would take this opportunity to make a shawl that i've had in my head for a while, so here it is! It was a marathon knit from start to finish, and a better experience than my first shawl.

The pattern is Swallowtail shawl from knitty.com. I modified it a bit because I wanted to include different colors. The main part is a silk mix, and it feels wonderful next to the skin. Also a made it a bit smaller, so that I would be able to finish it.

I used my new dress form that I got for Christmas (yay) to model!

close up (couldn't get a clearer one...)

I had a lot of fun coming up with different ways to wear it

4  Challenge 1: sunset on the surf in Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General by aecharjay on: February 08, 2010 12:32:23 AM
This necklace is less inspired by the ocean and more inspired by a lake (if only because i live in Michigan) but i assume they are similar in a lot of ways.

I have a cottage on one of the lakes, and my favorite thing to do is to watch the sunset over the water. The way the water sparkles on a lightly windy day is just beautiful Smiley

That is what inspired this necklace. The beads sparkle just as the waves do at sunset, and there is the light surf at the shore. I used thick circular, and twisted square wire which was wrapped with half-round wire at the joins. The ends of the wire were filed before being twisted in to spirals. The other side of the necklace is just an assortment of ocean colored beads all ending with the white crystals at the end for the surf. It's hard to see in the picture, but the beads all shine with different intensities, and different colors, just like the waves.
Looking at this now it looks like a waterfall too.

now for the pics!
