so i was looking through tons of posts and was totally inspired by DZ Designs post https://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=296936.0 (and shared tutorial link! Grin http://elily00.wordpress.com/tutorials/wallet/) and couldn't help but give it a shot!  now i'm completely in love!  i used fabric that was given to me off of freecycle.org and am totally stoked about my new (free!) wallet!  comments welcome!

2  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / Skull and Crossbones Hobo bag - my first post! on: May 12, 2009 11:56:04 AM
hi!  this is my first project post on craftster, so i'm not really sure what i'm doing!

this is a hobo bag that I made for my sister-in-law for christmas...and is actually the first thing that i've ever made for somebody else!  sorry about the crappy pictures, but i only took these 2 pics before i gave her the bag - i hadn't even thought of posting it on here at the time.  let me know what you think!

This is the body of the bag...the straps are long and tie together at the top, in typical hobo fashion.

this is a close up of the skull and cross bones.  i cut it out of black suede, backed it with the lining material (that purple is the color of the inside of the bag), and appliqued it to the front.

thanks for looking!

8  SEWING IN GENERAL / Sewing in General: Discussion and Questions / Re: Every thing I sew...Stinks! on: April 02, 2009 06:45:04 PM
hi!  i've been sewing somewhat regularly for the last year and a half - about - and i have a feeling you are being way to hard on yourself.  i sew a lot of purses and i find that there are a lot of times where i look at something and see tons of flaws, but the people that i show them to think they are phenomenal.  we all tend to judge ourselves too harshly!  practice always makes perfect and you'll start to notice the things that you have more trouble with and, as you work on them, you'll get much better!
also, one thing that has worked really well for me is this:  i don't use 'for purchase' patterns!  mainly because, i suck at them!  i find that my projects come out much better when i make them up myself!  simply because the pattern and the vision make sense to me...i already have the finished piece with all of the details visible in my head.  it certainly is worth a try...come up with an idea of something you want to make, draw it out on paper then create a pattern of your own.  i usually draw it out on newspaper or heavy duty craft paper.  just don't let your frustration stifle you, find your creative outlet!!!
9  CLOTHING / Clothing: Discussion and Questions / Re: Obnoxiously rainbow dress needs opinions! on: April 02, 2009 12:24:15 PM
adorable dress!  i think you could just leave the heart off...the patterns and colors already stand out in a very feminine and cute way, that i think the heart is somewhat unnecessary.  you could just put a slight V in the bodice and have the shoulder material meet in the center there if you feel like you need something stand-out in the middle.  great job!
10  GLASS CRAFTS / Glass Crafts: Completed Projects / Re: Mosaic tree table of happiness...*IMAGE HEAVY( fairly wordy as well)* on: April 02, 2009 11:21:19 AM
i absolutely love this!!!  it looks amazing!  i really want to try mosaic - but i'm completely terrified because i know absolutely nothing about it!  have you ever taken classes, or did you teach yourself?  any tips for a beginner?  thanks, and great job!!!
