1  FIBER ARTS / Felting: Discussion and Questions / needle felting questions! on: December 24, 2010 10:07:55 PM

I've recently started needle felting, and I wanted to make some cute little cell phone charms and such. But before I sold them, I want to make sure that they won't fall apart. I felt them very tightly and they are pretty firm to the touch, but is there any way to make sure that they don't fall apart? is there any way I can make the surface of the characters smoother? any other advice? thanks!

Here is what I've recently finished!

2  CLOTHING / Clothing: Discussion and Questions / i need advice!! on: March 28, 2010 06:20:38 PM
So I found this amazing fabric place, and i fell in love with so many fabrics, i just had to make something with them! the only problem is i've never made any clothing before. i can sew, i've made cage sets for my sugar gliders, bonding pouches for my sugar gliders, and i've made a bunch of plushies. I didn't want to use these nice fabrics in a cage set and have them get peed and pooped all over! and the fabrics aren't good for plushies, so i really wanted to make an outfit. But i've never made clothes.

i wanted to make this:

its just a quick mock up. it is based off of this dress:

if i were to follow the tutorial for this dress, how would i put sleeves in instead?

and is this design really really hard for someone who has never made clothes before? I don't have a mannequin to do it on, so how would i go about starting this? i would need to measure my bust, waist, and hips, right? any other advice? i just need to know how to go about starting this!!

3  TOYS, DOLLS AND PLAYTHINGS / Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Discussion and Questions / sugar glider pattern/help? on: August 08, 2009 11:19:09 PM
ok so i want to take on the daunting task of creating a sugar glider! I love them so much, and i think they are the cutest things everrrr. But unfortunately, I cannot have one/two until I move out of my house... So I figured if I can't have a real one, i should make a fake one!!

I've drawn up some patterns.. but I was wondering if you wonderfully experienced sewers can give me some comments, critiques, opinions, etc.
Some parts, like the face, nose, and legs, i had a hard time creating into a pattern.

so any advice on how to get the face, nose, limbs, fingers and such to be as close to my original sketch would be great!

and this was my original reference :3

thanks so much!

Hello! I'm new! I just joined today, sorry if this is in the wrong spot. I'm excited that i found this place, and I'm here to show some of the stuff i've made.  I just recently got into making plushies and such, so they are all made with basic felt you can buy at any art store. I used acrylic black paint to paint on their eyes. They are all hand sewn.

anyway, here are some pictures. :]

This is Tuesday, and she has poseable limbs. :] not much to say about her besides the fact that she was my real first one that turned out well. XD I based her off of a pattern from http://members.shaw.ca/plushie/moogle/.

this is qui, he likes to fly through the air and likes to eat clouds. He was the second one and i was super proud of him. XD

and this is Palthius. He's my pride and joy, and turned out awesome. Cheesy I sent him to my friend for christmas, and he just loves him. XD
(Palthius can't stand on his own, he's being held up by a phone in the back.)

I hope you like them! I'm in the middle of working on another one. his body has been finished, and he's my first one i made with a sewing machine. The only thing i need to do is make a cloak for him which i'm having trouble figuring out how to make the hood. :[
my next thing i need to learn is how to make them stand up on their own, hahaah.

But I'm excited to be here! thanks for looking! Cheesy
