I love blackwork! This is really awesome.
2  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / Band Sampler Panel 1 on: March 24, 2009 11:01:48 AM

I've started a band sampler project with 6" panels of linen that will be joined together in one continuous strip. Old-timey band samplers were rolled up and kept in the sewing box to be used as a reference as the ladies did their stitching. I don't know what mine will become eventually. Here's some more info about band samplers on my blog, though.

I've started off by documenting stitches that I already know. In this panel, you can see running stitch, back stitch, and counted cross stitch. My purpose in the band sampler is ultimately to stretch out and teach myself new stitches. I'm also using it as a kind of quasi-journal, which is why I chose Mr. Obama for the counted cross stitch section.

I wondered if anyone else would be interested in doing a stitch-along? I'd be really interested to see what other people do.
3  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / Re: For my Mother in law for Christmas on: March 24, 2009 10:52:33 AM
Uuuuummm... This could easily be given to my mother.

You can't imagine the enormity of her stash. I might have to copy this for her Christmas gift.
4  QUILTING / Quilting: Completed Projects / Re: Basic Black & White on: March 17, 2009 04:29:37 PM
I saw this over on flickr and loved it there, too. What I love is that you did not run the faux sashing along the seams, but sliced up your blocks with it. Makes the overall look much more complex and intentional. I really, REALLY like it!
5  QUILTING / Quilting: Completed Projects / Re: ANother stacked coins - 1st attempt at machine quilting on: March 17, 2009 04:27:43 PM
I love the color gradations in the coins. Really beautiful.

Thanks for posting about your learning process. It's really helpful!

I have no idea if you concocted the phrase or not, but I LOVE this. Nerdy in all the right ways!
7  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / Re: D.N.Angel & Watchmen on: March 17, 2009 04:10:15 PM
I love Rorschach, and what a fitting tribute. Lovely work. Nerds unite!
8  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / Re: Modified emoticon pain scale embroidery (some foul language) on: March 17, 2009 04:05:06 PM
I work at a hospital and I have to introduce this pain scale to my staff next week. I am totally going to show them these photos to lighten it up! Awesome!

That kitty would just not be the same without the cutesy frame. I really believe it is the combination of the stitching and the frame that promotes this from awesome to GENIUS.
10  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / Re: Elizabethan Cross Stitch on: March 17, 2009 03:36:51 PM
The simplicity of your color choices really puts the focus on the stitching. Great work!
