How difficult is it to tackle? I am a beginner reaching intermediate Grin Just wanted to know what I am getting myself into before I start. Just wanted to see what my crafter buddies had to say (I lurk a lot). Thanks again, now back to my lurking closet....

8  SEWING IN GENERAL / Sewing in General: Discussion and Questions / Who is on your "To Sew For" Christmas list? on: October 17, 2009 05:43:14 PM
Sad, but true I am making my list and checking it twice already. This year I am sewing a majority of Christmas presents and I am actually merry about it. Here is my list and I would love to hear what is on yours. Maybe we swap ideas and support each other when it is Christmas Eve and we still have gifts to finish  Grin

Nephews on my DH's side - Either bean bags with the spelling of each letter on a different bean bag (5 nephews = 24 bean bags) -or- a road map so they can play "cars" on the floor. Here is a link of the idea behind the playmat...

My MIL - She is antique dealer with my FIL and she asked my opinion on sewing a travel bag for when she goes on the road hunting antiques. Still in the process of sketching. She wants a lot of pockets and zippers. That should be fun  Undecided Maybe I won't holly jolly with that project.

My SILs, 2 of them - I am making each of them a tote, more like a diaper bag, but revamping to be a mommy bag. More pockets and a clip for keys.

For one of my aunts - A shabby chic inspired quilt. Her house is a bungalow near the Atlantic and she loves shabby chic!!

That is all so far. I Have a ton more family to get gifts for and I am just getting started with my list. Better get sewing!!!

10  SEWING IN GENERAL / Sewing Machines: Discussion and Questions / Re: Hello everyone. New to sewing & need advice. on: September 03, 2009 07:03:38 PM
I am sorry...I have been pondering your post for a while now Smiley

For the most part, I would get a machine you want, the bells and whistles you want. Do not skimp on a machine. You want a machine that will grow with your crafting abilities, not limit you. Yes, sewing + embroidry machines are on the expensive side, but if it is what you are interested in save more money and get your dream machine! Of course with the dream machine you get there will be a whole bunch of stitches you won't use at first, but you never know when you will use them one day! Who knew I would be using a honeycomb stitch, LOL!!! Did the other day  Grin

What models have you been looking at? Any ideas of the brand you want? What is available in the area where you live? Shops, stores, and even interntional stores like JoAnns, Walmart, and Hancock. Have you look at referbished machines online?

I am fairly new to sewing too, about 8 1/2 months. My sewing machine is the Singer 7470 and I love it!! Google it and kinda use that as a starting point. It does everything except the emboridry.

Hope this helps! My mind is super flustered!
