1  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / The Swap Gallery / Re: Ongoing ATC Swap -- August 2016 Gallery! on: September 11, 2016 07:53:22 PM
So, there we have it. It looks like the August swap is winding down. Boy, that was fun  Smiley

spikefan, your style is on point! The Marilyn Manson card is especially well done, with such clean line work.

curiousfae, the Irish castle watercolor is beautiful. I have considered claiming spikefan before for Irish or Scottish castles, but after looking at photos, I'm always way too intimidated. You really hit it on the nose. ALSO, you snuck in quiet the unexpected compliment. Thanks so very, very much for saying such nice things about my work and even mentioning my deviantart page. It's funny how so much of my work goes under the radar of close friends and family, so when essentially "a stranger" says something so kind, it really makes me feel so giddy.  Grin Grin Grin

pottermouth, your card is a perfect example of simplicity at its best. It's so realistic and I also love that old fashion almost printed look, kartiana mentioned.

kartiana, the sunset ATC is gorgeous. I am really, really loving this gold pen now. Have I said this already? I also love the way it breaks up the watercolors. I love drawn sun rays.

AND, now onwards to my final two cards of the month, yay!

kartiana sent me a card for my mushrooms theme. It has a wonderful vintage feeling. I have such a thing for ripped edges in collages too. This card was so cute and the colors are all just so warm and fantastic, thanks.

Then, emilywilde sent me a card for my eyes theme. This is sort of a theme combo, considering another one of my themes was aliens. So, thank you so much. I really love the classic
big-eyed, green alien that adorned clothes in the '90s. Not to mention, this alien has the coolest eye. It's a multicolored galaxy. And glittery. Well used glitter is an admirable skill of a talented crafter.

Can't wait to join back up again soon. Thank you for hosting rockingbearranch!

My goodness there are some super cards this round.

emilywilde Cthulu in Space is really great. I love the background. AND the Powell's City of Books card also caught my eye! I am actually visiting Portland for the first time in October and this stop is on our list, so it was exciting to see it pop up in the craftster feed.

Oh and Krafty_Karasu the Little Red Riding Hood is too cute. I love that simplistic design. And the patch too! I always have a hard time replicating the same thing, but then into a different medium.

And then LimeRiot, I love the color and design on the Finland card!

Now onto the lovely card I received from loca4crafts for my mushrooms theme.

She gave me a little background on the creation of the card, which I always love when I know the origin behind the craft, whether it's the inspiration or the supplies. It gives the card a history. So, the mushrooms are actually cut from shelf liner she found in the basement of their house when they bought it. And then the letters were hand stamped with printing press letters she found on craigslist. How very neat. The colors are perfect and the card looks so retro. Thanks for the backstory and thanks even more for the adorable card!

Hello, hello. I'm just jumping on here real quick before work because I just realized I never posted the pic of what kk sent me! This is for my theme "eyes". She sent me this wonderful, creepy creepster from a video game. I love it. And now I really wanna play Skyrim. The creatures name is "Hermaeus Mora" if you wanna check this thing out for yourself. I'll be back on soon to catch up on the gallery!!!

Mountains and Clouds the tide pool is so unique. I love things that have a texture to them. I'd love to see a picture that shows all the bumps and curves. I am trying to be better about taking pictures with my camera AND scanner, so I can get a feel for both.

limeriot Love the ATC book. I always feel like it is because of swaps like that, where the sent item is a little extra special, is the reason I always come back to craftster. The community is so caring and I feel like everyone likes to treat each other. It's unfortunate, but you cannot find that kind of sincerity on the internet nowadays. Craftster is one of the few sites absent of trolls (at least in my experience).

curiousfae You know Tarot Cards are also on my list of themes...nudge nudge Grin I would be honored to receive a card so beautiful from you in the future!

Oh and lastly, now I want that gold marker. Haha.

I claim emilywilde for "Pinterest". (Oh, man. You've got some good things pinned. This will be overwhelming and fun.)

Heyo.
I live in Orlando, FL with my wonderful boyfriend and dog. I love warm colors. Mustard yellow is my favorite. I love odd, strange, and whimsical things. I'm never offended, so let your imagination run wild. I do keep my ATCs in a baseball card style binder, so if possible try and keep it 2D, but if you're too excited and want to break away from the parameters, I'm not going to mind.

Aliens
Godzilla
Kaiju
Yokai (Even though I love the game Yokai Watch, I'd love to see art of actual yokai from japanese folklore, not the cutesy characters of the video game and tv series.)
Cryptozoology
Person Body + Object Head
People with Antlers
Eyes and Eyeballs or People with One Eye or Three Eyes (or even 20)
Surreal Collage
Beasts with Lots of Teeth
Bugs and/or Mushrooms
A French Word or Phrase
Retro Science Fiction

Ooh I really like that card from curiousfae! Found poetry- that's a fun theme. I might steal that. Speaking of poetry, curiousfae also sent me a card with a poem, for my alliteration theme. It's a stanza from The Rime of the Ancient Mariner. I'm not very well read, so I wasn't familiar with this poem at all, or Samuel Taylor Coleridge, the poet, but that makes it all the better, since now she's introduced me to it. I'm going to have to sit down and read the entire poem. I immediately looked into online and it looks super interesting. Also, the hand lettering for this was very clever. Thanks so much for this ATC!

So, quick background story for this post. In March 2015, I was participating in a ATC swap and curiousfae claimed me for my Tarot card theme. Unfortunately, by the time it got to me, my desktop computer had fizzled out. It stopped getting the internet and it was blue screening constantly. That same week my laptop stopped charging. It was extremely frustrating considering how many things you use the computer for nowadays. I communicated this to curiousfae at the time and I'm not very sure if she ever put up a picture of her own card, but here it is, over a year belated, an adorable 3-D ATC for my tarot card theme. (Now I'm thinking sci-fi tarot cards would just be the coolest!)

Oh wow. I just caught up on the gallery. I have missed out on some cute, well crafted cards. I have already told a couple of my swap-mates, but I got one of my wisdom teeth pulled this past week and spent some days worrying about the procedure, then getting it done, and then recovery. I hate the dentist  Sad But I've returned and hope I can jump back in full force!

First, let me comment on some of the more recent ATCs shared:
LimeRiot your bird and foreign word ATCs are adorable. They look straight out of a children's book. I love them.
curiousfae your Orphan Black ATC is well done. I'm not familiar with the show, but I'm glad I got to see the reference picture, so I could appreciate how great in turned out. And the Marimekko cards are spot on. With those skills, you could just design your own knock offs- haha.
And Krafty_Karasu your La Rana card is so unique. The choice of paper was great.
