1  Re: Ongoing ATC Swap -- August 2016 Gallery! in The Swap Gallery by Susie Apple on: September 11, 2016 07:53:22 PM
So, there we have it. It looks like the August swap is winding down. Boy, that was fun  Smiley

spikefan, your style is on point! The Marilyn Manson card is especially well done, with such clean line work.

curiousfae, the Irish castle watercolor is beautiful. I have considered claiming spikefan before for Irish or Scottish castles, but after looking at photos, I'm always way too intimidated. You really hit it on the nose. ALSO, you snuck in quiet the unexpected compliment. Thanks so very, very much for saying such nice things about my work and even mentioning my deviantart page. It's funny how so much of my work goes under the radar of close friends and family, so when essentially "a stranger" says something so kind, it really makes me feel so giddy.  Grin Grin Grin

pottermouth, your card is a perfect example of simplicity at its best. It's so realistic and I also love that old fashion almost printed look, kartiana mentioned.

kartiana, the sunset ATC is gorgeous. I am really, really loving this gold pen now. Have I said this already? I also love the way it breaks up the watercolors. I love drawn sun rays.

AND, now onwards to my final two cards of the month, yay!

kartiana sent me a card for my mushrooms theme. It has a wonderful vintage feeling. I have such a thing for ripped edges in collages too. This card was so cute and the colors are all just so warm and fantastic, thanks.

Then, emilywilde sent me a card for my eyes theme. This is sort of a theme combo, considering another one of my themes was aliens. So, thank you so much. I really love the classic
big-eyed, green alien that adorned clothes in the '90s. Not to mention, this alien has the coolest eye. It's a multicolored galaxy. And glittery. Well used glitter is an admirable skill of a talented crafter.

Can't wait to join back up again soon. Thank you for hosting rockingbearranch!

My goodness there are some super cards this round.

emilywilde Cthulu in Space is really great. I love the background. AND the Powell's City of Books card also caught my eye! I am actually visiting Portland for the first time in October and this stop is on our list, so it was exciting to see it pop up in the craftster feed.

Oh and Krafty_Karasu the Little Red Riding Hood is too cute. I love that simplistic design. And the patch too! I always have a hard time replicating the same thing, but then into a different medium.

And then LimeRiot, I love the color and design on the Finland card!

Now onto the lovely card I received from loca4crafts for my mushrooms theme.

She gave me a little background on the creation of the card, which I always love when I know the origin behind the craft, whether it's the inspiration or the supplies. It gives the card a history. So, the mushrooms are actually cut from shelf liner she found in the basement of their house when they bought it. And then the letters were hand stamped with printing press letters she found on craigslist. How very neat. The colors are perfect and the card looks so retro. Thanks for the backstory and thanks even more for the adorable card!

Hello, hello. I'm just jumping on here real quick before work because I just realized I never posted the pic of what kk sent me! This is for my theme "eyes". She sent me this wonderful, creepy creepster from a video game. I love it. And now I really wanna play Skyrim. The creatures name is "Hermaeus Mora" if you wanna check this thing out for yourself. I'll be back on soon to catch up on the gallery!!!

Ooh I really like that card from curiousfae! Found poetry- that's a fun theme. I might steal that. Speaking of poetry, curiousfae also sent me a card with a poem, for my alliteration theme. It's a stanza from The Rime of the Ancient Mariner. I'm not very well read, so I wasn't familiar with this poem at all, or Samuel Taylor Coleridge, the poet, but that makes it all the better, since now she's introduced me to it. I'm going to have to sit down and read the entire poem. I immediately looked into online and it looks super interesting. Also, the hand lettering for this was very clever. Thanks so much for this ATC!

So, quick background story for this post. In March 2015, I was participating in a ATC swap and curiousfae claimed me for my Tarot card theme. Unfortunately, by the time it got to me, my desktop computer had fizzled out. It stopped getting the internet and it was blue screening constantly. That same week my laptop stopped charging. It was extremely frustrating considering how many things you use the computer for nowadays. I communicated this to curiousfae at the time and I'm not very sure if she ever put up a picture of her own card, but here it is, over a year belated, an adorable 3-D ATC for my tarot card theme. (Now I'm thinking sci-fi tarot cards would just be the coolest!)

Whoa, so many incredible cards as of late. I had a lot of catching up to do. I am hoping to get a new phone soon, one that can actually get the internet, and when I do, it will be more convenient for me to comment on the awesomeness of the gallery. Can't wait.

Well, I am happy to say my last card of February came from blu. The theme was "Whimsical, Weird Whatever from Your Brain" and boy, did she deliver! Her card is so simple and sincere. I love odd secrets and when people open up to reveal unlikely truths. Thanks blupaisan,  you are a master of so many styles.

sheepBlue Your creations are insane! Did you demolish a tiny village and leave a million tiny people homeless? Because I cannot think of any other way you have managed to make so many beautiful 3D ATCs.

blupaisan Your stained glass is great, but the curiosity cabinet is stunning. That theme seems to be getting some amazing ATC turn outs and I might just steal the idea...

Now onward to the cards I received this weekend:

Behold, two adorable and well done ladies with antlers. These are from spikefan. She did a great job with the colors and I loved adding these to my collection. Now I just might have to change the theme to Men with Antlers, because so far only females have been drawn- interesting huh?

Next I have another gem from blupaisan. She claimed me for two themes, Creatures that are Too Cool For School and French Phrases. At first I thought she was super inspired and was making up two different cards for me, BUT this was so much better than I imagined. She mixed two of my themes in such a creative way. Someday soon I am going to post all of my blupaisan cards I have received since I've started swapping. They all look so great together.

And last, I received a belated card (with communication of course) from artsycandice. It technically belongs in the January gallery, but it's so lovely and I really want everyone to see it, so I am posting it here for more eyes to feast on. She claimed me for a Pinterest Inspired Artist's Choice. She was specifically inspired by this:http://hannakin.deviantart.com/art/Apri-121409047. She said she based it on a stuffed animal she had created. I thought the card was the cutest, but then gasped when I noticed the little creature lifts off to reveal a skeleton. I adore this card. It is my first card that moves, but it still fits in my binder! She even sent me a sweet, watercolored extra. Thanks so much, it was worth the wait!!!

Oh my goodness there are so many good cards put up recently! The non-paper rooster and the Little Red Riding Hood are two standing out in my mind. I've never done a non-paper ATC...and now I am a little inspired.

Well, I did receive my first ATC of 2015, yay! It is from bunny1kenobi, specifically it is actually from her artistic son. It was for my theme "Let Your Child Draw a Monster". SO, I present to you Cutie and Nightmare:

I think we have a new ATC swap participant in the making =)

Yeeee, I LOVE those coasters, very creative!!!  When I made my partner a set, I started panicking when the resin started changing the look of the paper, so I know how Susie feels lol.  But when I calmed down (because there's nothing you can do once you pour that resin uggg) I started liking the changes.  It makes it all better when our partners do too!
Ah good, so I am not the only one. I've used resin before and it bled into my paper, but this time with the coasters I used Mod Podge to seal it first (and I even used a second coat). I thought for sure I wouldn't have the same issue. Except it did, yet like you said, you get used to it and even start liking it in parts.

WELL FOLKS, I have a lovely package to present to you. I received from Ramona Q a functional and adorable set of things:

Here's everything all together! I told her I like functional things and that I also have a printer's tray that I like to put trinkets in.

So, she embroidered this marvelous hoop of Steve Zissou to go on top of my printer's tray! The details are incredible and the back says, "Let me tell you about my boat". Too frickin' cool.

Then as a functional craft, she made me a Life Aquatic tote bag. I am still debating the lucky contents that are going to get to hang out in this bag. Maybe my books? Maybe some on-the-go crafting supplies? I love how it has the name of the boat on it: Jacqueline Deep Search. Perfect.

And then as if that wasn't enough, she also gave me a Moonrise Kingdom zippered pouch! I just bought myself some new Micron pens and now they have a home! The pouch has the troop number, the raccoon patch, it has "Khaki Scout" embroidered into the top, AND the zipper has beads that spells out Suzy- what an adorable touch.

Ramona Q, you really spoiled me. Everything was great. Thank you so much.

Alas, my computer has been fixed and my pictures have been retrieved. These are the ATCs I sent to pioneer9 for her whimsical monsters theme. I love to send an extra if I have the time and so she also received Pilot from Farscape. THANKS FOR YOUR PATIENCE PIONEER9 AND KOSMICGIRL.  Grin
