21  COOKING / Dessert / Holy Batman cupcakes, Batman! on: June 19, 2011 06:14:18 AM

Well, my friend was organising a Comic Con and he put me and my sister on the guest list. And to say a massive thank you I made these cupcakes...

It's just piped buttercream over the top and then I cut out sugarpaste bat symbols for the tops.

I drew a bat symbol onto paper then covered it in sticky tape on both sides and cut it out.  Then I laid it out over the top of the sugarpaste and cut it out with a knife.  It was my first time ever using sugarpaste and it went better than I thought it would.

He seemed to really like them and I was quite chuffed with the finished cakes.  Any c&c's are welcome! Grin
22  COOKING / Dessert / First attempt at covering a cake on: June 19, 2011 06:12:14 AM

My friend works in a bakers (cleaning up mostly) but she was keeping an eye on what the bakers did so we decided to see if we could have at attempt at one of the basic cakes they do.  This is they style they do in in their beginners day course so we hope if we can master this one we can go to an improvers class when it comes round (it's over 100 per class).

It was quite footery and we had to put a bit of sugarpaste behind the boy (only a teeny bit) so it would prop at an angle.   Wink

Since this was a complete first attempt using sugarpaste any comments, criticism or tips at all to make it better would REALLY, really help!   Cheesy

Has this swap died a death?

I hope not. Sad

Yeah, me too.  I was worried I'd go on holiday and miss something and now I'm back and it's not moved along at all.   Huh

29  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Weddings and Bridal Showers / Re: Do you mind if I join in too?? on: May 07, 2011 05:51:16 AM
Congratulations on setting a date...me and my partner are currently discussing weddingy things and I'm pretty much after a tea party/village fete style thing too...all mis-matched.   Cheesy

I want it to be nice versions of what I have in my home already.   Cheesy

Well, I've never came across fabric like the lovely dress you linked to but Mandors in Glasgow has this....

I really like it as an idea for bridesmaids.

Also, if you go to the organized craft swap section, in the swap ideas bit there's a Going to the Chapel wedding swap coming up that you should look into doing...

30  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General / Re: Squirrel Paws Furry Earrings on: May 07, 2011 01:31:52 AM
I have such a mixed view on these....they are beautifully put together but the materials give me The Fear.

I know I have no real right though to judge the animal parts 'cos I'm happy to eat animal and sit on a leather couch, etc.   Huh

And also, when I was a little girl I had a Lucky Rabbit Foot kilt pin that I loved so much and carted it around 'til the poor rabbits toes fell off so I imagine as a little girl I would'a thought these where AMAZING!!!

But I do appreciate the "mature content" label, they're always an incentive for me to click on them but I feel like I can't be surprised if I've been warned and look anyway!   Grin
