11  Red Velvet, Stripey Birthday Cake in Dessert by BoyceMachine on: April 30, 2011 07:37:49 AM
So....

It's my friends birthday today and she's havin' a BBQ but last night me and another friend decided to try and make her a birthday cake - we both do bake but this one is something totally different.

I finished it about 10 mins ago (I'm posting while I wait to get picked up to take it away)...this is the final piece....

We where heavily inspired by this I am Baker blog entry http://iammommy.typepad.com/i_am_baker/2011/04/red-velvet-strawberry-shortcake.html.

From the top...

Without it's clothes on   Wink

Every second layer is red velvet and there's buttercream between each layer - and all over.

Then we covered it...look how lop-sided it is...

So we just waited until that was dry and put more frosting on it to even it out and I stuck a bow I had left over from a birthday present years ago.

Hopefully she'll enjoy it...any C&C's are welcome!

Thanks! Cheesy

P.S.

She loved the cake!!!

Here's an inside shot...

12  Nautical Holiday Tote Bag in Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General by BoyceMachine on: March 07, 2011 07:03:50 AM
So...

I'm going to Portland, Maine then New York for my birthday in May but my job is only part time and I can't really afford to go out and buy new holiday things so I've been picking up bits and pieces from charity shops and accessories in sales so when May comes round it'll feel like I have lots of lovely new things.   Cheesy

Well I'm liking a lot of nautical themes these days but I'm finding no bags in sales or charity shops to put away so I decided to have a go about making one myself.

I recently got beautiful fabric in the Valentines Swap from the wonderful SonjaBoo and so that's what I used (I'm hoping to make high waisted shorts too).

I made the pattern on my own (I'd maybe make it smaller in the future) but I wanted to make sure it was big enough for bits and pieces I'd pick up when I'm away, have pockets to it and also be secure.  The red over the front pocket was a bit of a last minute improvise with my remnants.

I didn't like that it wasn't very sturdy so when I made it yesterday I decided to unpick it and put in more interfacing to make it stiffer.

My pockets and clips.

The bag charm was just a cheap 2.50 one that I'd bought in Primark and was already in my "holiday box" and I thought it made it look a bit fancier.

And just for good measure...my very scientific sketch of what I was after - on a work notebook (working hard that day!  -  Wink )

Any C&C's welcome.

13  Flat Pack Doll House for our Mum (IMG heavy) in Completed Projects by BoyceMachine on: February 16, 2011 11:54:39 AM
So, after seeing some amazing whimsy houses on here me and my sister Shy decided to buy a flat pack house and make one for our Mum's birthday.   Cheesy

We both love it now it's done but it was a bloody nightmare....it came with almost no instructions and took weeks to finish.

However, our Mum absolutely loved it and it was nice to do a bit of a joint crafting (we usually craft very different things) although we did have some artistic differences!   Grin

There's glitter round all the window frames and little gems on the railings on the outside but they didn't really show up on the photo's...oh well...

Well, here it is...

Yes, Ariel and Iron Man both live there.   Wink

Individual rooms...there's proper carpet and some "wooden" flooring inside...

This out of scale cake really annoyed Sharon  Tongue

I'd love to have one of my own but I do not think I could cope with building another...the first was hard enough and that was a shared effort.   Grin

C&C's welcome.

14  My lovely thrifty nautical bedding accessories - Cath Kidston theme - IMG Heavy in Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: General by BoyceMachine on: February 16, 2011 02:54:17 AM
So I got a bargain in TKMaxx and bought some Cath Kidston bedding.

I got a duvet cover and two pillow cases (they where still 50 but prob about half the retail price) but after having a nosey on the bag of the packaging I decided I wanted more nautical themed bedroom stuff...but had quickly ran out of money.

So I went back to TKMaxx and got another pillowcase (only 5) that I unpicked and could use for fabric then went to a fabric shop and got fabric to compliment it so I made two little cushion covers (and bought cushions from a charity shop).

With what I had left from the backing of the cushions I made 2 metres of bunting.

And this is it all together in the end...I very chuffed...it wasn't the cheapest thing to do but I love it.  I have 1 half of a pillow case left and I might make a lampshade to match!   Cheesy

C&C's more than welcome.

16  P!nk Cross Stitch in Needlework: Completed Projects by BoyceMachine on: January 04, 2011 12:44:51 PM

So,

I recently moved to a new flat with my boyfriend and I have a huge big kitchen (that I love SOOOO much) and I wanted the whole place decorated just how I'd like it (vintagey/Cath Kidston/Laura Ashley).

Anyway, I love Pink and think she's quite the inspiration, so I made a wee cross stitch and it's now hanging up in my kitchen.

It's a bit squinty and I got the frame in a charity shop and I painted it to match other stuff.

17  Re: Once You Pop Winter Fun Gallery in The Swap Gallery by BoyceMachine on: December 18, 2010 10:13:32 AM
Look what I got.... Cheesy

A garland...I freakin' love this...

Decorations....

A wee picture clip thing...

More decorations...

Snowflake pasties...

These are particularly cool 'cos I made snowflake fans for a burlesque routine recently.

And I need to tell you about 'cos  the pics don't do it justice...I got two sheets of white stickers of buttons, sewing machines and my name.  It's pretty amazing but such a shame 'cos when I take a photo it just looks like I've took a photo of shiny paper.

Thanks so so much!!!   Cheesy
