1  KNITTING / Knitalongs / Re: Zimmerman KAL?? on: April 07, 2008 02:13:34 PM
ooh! I just moved from Tucson to St. Louis, and I on the drive I started the shawl (it IS perfect travel knitting!) featured on the cover, with the lace diamonds. I'm just about to start the scallop-y bits in the center ring of the lace. It was moving along so quickly until I started working the rounds of 288, but I'm getting into the flow of things. And by the time I get to the 500+ stitch rounds... wow. I'm using paton's Lacette, in a pretty lavender. Pictures eventually!

magick8ball, i looooove yours...  i plan on getting a sparrow and a ball of yarn, so something like that would be just up my alley.  i've never seen anything like that, it's really pretty. Cheesy  will you get it colored?

Soon!!! We're still sorting out the details and logistics, but soon. The yarn will be pink, but that's all I know right now.

One of my roller derby teammates has been apprenticing at a local shop, and we'd been talking about this for months. My original idea was not nearly as cool as what she designed for me. I took an afternoon off work and a few days off derby (without hitting people with my shoulder) to let it heal. Eh, who am I kidding. I still went to scrimmage, but I worked on hip checks!

5  Craft Swaps / ARCHIVE OF SWAPS THAT ARE TOTALLY FINISHED / Re: "This is Me" CD Swap Round 2!!!! SIGN UPS CLOSED on: July 29, 2006 09:15:37 PM
Yay! I received from Lubee today, and I sent mine off Friday afternoon. It was a great mail day for me- no bills, a totally sweet CD package, and.... someone found my missing driver's license and dropped it in a mailbox somewhere! It's been about two months, and I've been using my passport to buy booze all this time. Ha!

Is there a gallery yet?
6  NEEDLEWORK / Sublime Stitching Embroidery / Roller derby onesie! First project!! on: July 10, 2006 06:03:14 PM
A teammate is having a baby, and I made her a derby onesie for bringing her spawn to the bouts. This is my first embroidery project, and I am so excited at how it turned out! The weird pucker around the edges is the backing I sewed on at the last minute, realizing that babies might not like a bunch of knots rubbing against the chest. Next time I'll know, eh?

Not sure if the closeup photo shows any more detail, but here it is:

7  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / Slouchy hobo inspired by "Happy Hooker" on: July 10, 2006 05:56:28 PM
Yarn: Moda Dea Cache, in that blu color that's always on sale. 3 skeins.

Needles:10 1/2, strap in single crochet, also size 10 1/2.

Pattern: I bought SnB Happy Hooker. I loved the "Fat Bottom Bag", but I didn't like the way it was turning out. So I made it a knit instead. And I gave it a strap instead of the wooden handles. And a button closure, because I like shiny red buttons. Voila!

The color may be a bit washed out, but it shows my favorite part- the sparkly gold filament woven in with the yarn!

Hmmm... I'd like to participate, but would anyone have a problem with crafting for my roller derby name instead of my craftster handle? I know it goes against the swap title, but my life has changed in the 10 years since I chose 'magick8ball' for my first hotmail account!
(now "All Night Dinah" to everyone but my mom!)
10  Craft Swaps / ARCHIVE OF SWAPS THAT ARE TOTALLY FINISHED / Re: ***CRAFT MY THEME SWAP***Signups June 29 - July 9. Sendout August 18 on: July 05, 2006 01:57:16 PM
I'm in, and I can't wait! Two of my themes are related- I play roller derby and my team is the Furious Truckstop Waitresses, so crafts based on either of those themes would make me the coolest girl on the track. I chose bicycles because I am transitioning to a minimal car lifestyle, and I love how my bike has changed my life. The other two are based on themed rooms in my apartment. The livingroom has a beach/tiki/luau thing going, and the bathroom has pinup girls (some on bicycles!). Right now, room themes are based entirely on wall decorations- mostly postcards and random objects.
