11  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Winter Holidays / Re: Festive Christmas Santas: Ho Ho HO! on: December 03, 2011 05:34:37 PM
They're so cute! I don't know how many you picked up but I think it would be fun if you researched different "santas" frm different countries.
12  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / Slubtastic Shawl!!! on: December 03, 2011 05:24:02 PM
Used the Easy Triangular Shawl 60301 from Lion Brand and about 1 and 1/4 skeins of Slubtastic yarn from Joann. Did 14 repititions rather than the recommended 9 and then I steam-blocked it. I love it, it's like wearing a blanket.

It's a Brother CE5500 Project Runway Limited Edition! I was so used to my icky old one that when I started sewing with this one, I had completely forgotten how smooth it was supposed to be!

A couple of necklaces I made yesterday:

The black teardrop shell beads make me think of watermelon seeds with this necklace lol. Interestingly enough, I found these beads not in the jewelry section but in the button section of my local Joann.

Got both these beads and the butterfly pendant on CLEARANCE so this necklace only cost me about $1.50. Now that is savvy shopping!

I saw these blue glass pearls at Joann and I fell in love with the color. So vivid! I knew I had to make something with them.

So I recently got a new sewing machine (yay!) and it's been full steam ahead ever since! I got this great flannel with the turtles for my soon-to-be-born nephew (as in at this very moment he is about 8 days overdue). And bcz I bought the end of the bolt as a remnant, I had just the right amount left over that I freehanded a crescent shaped pillow for his tummy time (something my son notoriously hated but probably would've liked more if I'd had a pillow like this for him).

And check out these perfect corners! My machine automatically stops sewing with the needle in the down position, making these a breeze!

20  SEWING IN GENERAL / Sewing Machines: Discussion and Questions / Re: beginner sewing machine on: August 20, 2011 08:25:18 PM
I don't now much about sewing machines but I've heard that Brother is more user friendly than Singer. Also, if you do a search for "refurbished brother sewing machines", you get a good number of options.
