2  CLOTHING / Shoes: Discussion and Questions / weird material? on: October 14, 2009 05:37:47 PM
Well, I'm looking for some kind of material (preferably cheap), something somewhat stiff and sturdy but that could be put in the washing machine. I'm wanting to use it as a sole for slippers. I just don't know what kind of material I would look for. Any tips would be great, thanks.
3  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Cables! AHH! on: March 05, 2009 06:19:26 PM
So I'm trying cables for the first time  Shocked
I'm using this pattern: http://www.berroco.com/exclusives/kable/kable.html
I figured it would be good to have my first cables on something no one would have to wear but that would still be useful. The bottom part of it ended up folded and it looks kind of messy, is that supposed to happen?  Undecided
Also when I knit the stitches off the cable needle, everything is really tight and it's difficult to do, any tips on that?
4  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Discussion and Questions / copyright law question on: March 02, 2009 05:06:43 PM
If you're using a pattern for some inspiration (or for learning) for something to sell, how much does it have to be modified in order for it to be legal? In general, what's the minimal amount of modifying I'd have to do I guess is what I'm asking. I have a lot of ideas, but I don't want to be accused of stealing or anything   Undecided
5  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Problems with the 1st row on: February 21, 2009 09:24:14 PM
I'm working on my 4th project ever and every time I start something the yarn between the two needles gets longer and longer with each stitch. What I've been doing temporarily is not counting the slipknot as a stitch then untying it later so that there's a tail hanging off. This doesn't seem normal to me, is there a way to prevent that?
6  COOKING / Dessert / HEALTHY EASY chocolate pie! on: February 19, 2009 01:18:56 PM
I love making this pie, it is delicious and healthy. It's a great way to get protein, especially if you're veg. I don't have any pictures, but I'll add some next time I make it.

1 bag chocolate chips
1 package SOFT/SILKEN tofu

I usually use a pre-made pie crust, but you can make your own if you wish. The Kroger brand pie crusts are vegan if you're into that.

Drain the tofu, cut it up, put the whole package in a blender.
Start melting the whole bag of chocolate chips.
While it's melting, blend the tofu until it's kind of creamy (doesn't need to be perfect at this point).
Once the chocolate is melted, add it to the blender.
Blend the filling until all of the chocolate is mixed in, the filling should be smooth.
Pour the filling into the pie crust.
Cover the pie and leave it in the fridge for at least 2 hours.
You'll know it's ready when it has a "cheesecake" kind of texture.

If you want, add some whipped cream on top, it goes great with a couple of raspberries too.
I love making this pie for parties and potlucks, no one will believe it's made with tofu!
7  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / ideas? on: February 14, 2009 11:24:31 PM
I'm wanting to knit something that's more appropriate for summer that I can knit on straight needles (that's all I have at the moment). I've looked through a bunch of free patterns and so far nothing has really appealed to me except things that require circular needles. I just finished a purse/tote bag type thing so I'm looking to start a new project ASAP, anyone have suggestions?
