1  CROCHET / Amigurumi: Completed Projects / Re: Freeform Octopus on: July 05, 2011 04:02:15 PM
You're from Michigan? Then you should definitely name him Al, after the Detroit Red Wings octopus!  Smiley

2  REUSING/RECYCLING/RECRAFTING / What the heck can I do with THIS? / 21 Gun Salute Shells on: January 27, 2010 05:01:45 AM
Recently my great uncle passed away.  In his youth, he was in the Navy, so my family had the American Legion come out and do a 21 gun salute.

I felt compelled to get a shell from each volley, but now I don't know what to do with them.

I was wondering where you found the red elastic.  I just made it for my mom (thanks for the wonderful idea), and could only find white.  Told her it was mayo.  Wink

Wow!  That's what it looks like!  I've been working on that same piece for what seems like forever (not 10 yrs though).   Smiley

You did a great job!  Hope mine turns out that well.  Did you find that you had had the kit so long the floss started pulling apart?

OH NO!  I put this in the wrong section.

Thanks to the admin for moving it to the proper section!
9  COOKING / Dessert / Ladybug Ice Cream Cake for Mom's Day on: May 16, 2009 07:42:13 AM
Asked mom what she wanted for Mother's Day dinner...She responds ice cream cake!  Ugh.  Luckily for Christmas she'd gotten me one of those Betty Crocker cake pans, so I put it to get use.

I used my favorite cake recipe (below from Food Network), but after the freezings it was though the cake was too dense (but I didn't want to use the Betty Crocker [are you as surprised as I am?] mix).  I chose to stuff it with strawberry ice cream (cheapest kind I could fine as it only took 1 pint).  It was my first attempt at using the whole bag decorating thing.

This was surprisingly easy to make, but I regret not making the icing as well.

Yellow Cake:
12 tablespoons (1 1/2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
1 1/2 cups sugar
2 cups all purpose flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
3 large eggs and 1 yolk for the egg whites
3/4 cup milk
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
10  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Baby Showers And Gifts For New Babies / Baby Bunch Bouquet on: May 01, 2009 04:34:14 PM
First post! I've been lurking and getting ideas, so I wanted to post this gift.

I got the general idea from Martha Stewart, but decided that I didn't want to use her suggested items and I didn't like her destructions.  I ended up buying a lot of clothes and just filling in some places.  As for the leaves/flowers use your judgement of what looks well.  I don't remember what exactly is in this bouquet anymore more but there's at least 3 pairs of socks, 4 bibs, and some onesies (sorry I can't remember exactly).  The flowers (for the leaves I got one big thing of leaves and cut individual leaves off...cheaper! and more fun) and strophome [sp?] cute came from Michael's and the jar (which was shipped with the lid) was found at a thrift store.

It was a huge hit!
