Sigh. After a long 12 hour outage, foldplay.com is finally back online. Awful timing! We apologize to everyone who tried to get through.

Sorry! Sorry! Sorry! It's mid-morning on V-day and our website provider is having problems. We expect to see foldplay.com back up and running soon. (The support person said in about an hour...) Please check back soon, because this is a fun project.

Hi Ceep. I was just looking at your blog yesterday. Very nice. I've made flexagons too. Kaleidocyles have the same turning motion but instead of being a flat-folded ring it's more of a 3D figure with connected pyramids. We hope to do a photo version of flexagons in the future.

Make a fun 3D paper sculpture that rotates endlessly to display your photos!

Start with four of your own photos or combine them with some of our cute valentine messages... These are my friends Orelia and Carey, who agreed to be the Valentine's Day Kaleidocycle Spokesmodels for 2009.

We slice, dice and stretch your photos --- you download this as a .jpg file. Print, score, cut, fold and glue. We have complete directions in slideshow format at http://foldplay.com/kaleidocycle.action I'm interested to know how clear they are. I'm happy to answer questions or trouble shoot. I like to use a light cardstock, but regular paper will do. It just won't be as sturdy.

The kaleidocycle rotates endlessly, so your sweetheart keeps coming around again and again. The motion is really addictive.

A kaleidocycle is much cooler than a store-bought card (not that you were planning on buying a card anyway, but you know what I mean!).

it's a hood, it's a scarf, it's a...
a really good way to stay warm when it's really cold. Wrapping something over your ears and around your neck makes a huge difference. Here in Wisconsin when it's really cold I  wrap my scarf over my head and then put a hat on over it.
16  COOKING / Vegetarian / Vegan / Re: Why are you Vegetarian/Vegan? on: February 07, 2009 06:44:11 PM
I've been a vegetarian for 26 years. (I feel like an oldster craftster!) When people ask why I became a vegetarian I tell them when I was 19 and travelling around the US on my own everyone I met assumed I was vegetarian, so I decided to become one....

Well, it's true that people often assumed I was a veg, but really I was influenced by the resource conservation arguments in Francis Moore Lappe's Diet for a Small Planet. Also, the places I was living, Arcosanti  http://www.arcosanti.org/project/main.html  in AZ and my dorm at college, Ecology House, had vegetarian meal plans so it was very easy for me. And I just stuck with it. I didn't start out with an animal rights focus, but in time meat became repellent, sort of like fried grubs. I know other people think of it as food but I'm not going to eat it.
17  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Craftalongs / Re: Quilt along - Kaffe Fassett's Postcard Quilt Anyone? on: February 07, 2009 06:30:26 PM
Gorgeous colors! It's been a long time since I've made a quilt. My fabric misses me.... (in fact, it's boxed up in a basement right now since I moved in Sept.)

I'm not familiar with this pattern, but from the drawing it looks like the "postcards" are in the border, right? They're nicely proportioned.
18  TOYS, DOLLS AND PLAYTHINGS / Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects / Re: Cuddly TARDIS on: February 07, 2009 01:38:46 PM
I bet it took a LOT of fiberfil to stuff it. After all, it's a lot bigger on the inside than it is on the outside.  Wink
19  KNITTING / Knitalongs / Re: Doctor Who Scarf Knitalong on: February 07, 2009 01:35:01 PM
My friend Anita and I are just starting Dr. Who scarves. She's going season 13 or 14 (whichever is shorter) and I'm doing season 12 but making the stripes with half as many rows because the scarf is a present for Anita's grandson.

We're using Vanna's choice and some of the cheap Bernat mega-skeins. We hope to be done in time for next winter! I'll keep posting updates.

Terrific! He seems so solid and elephantine.
