151  Plushies!! Pirate, Giraffe, and dog =) in Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects by PirateColey on: February 15, 2009 09:26:13 AM
Well, here is Pirate 'Puss. My mom drew a picture of him, and I turned it into a plushie. Yes, her picture only has six legs. I'm never going to let her live that down.

Next is Casey. She's a Golden Labrador / Chow mix who belongs to my cousin and her family. Madison is 11 and she commissioned me to make Casey for her big sister Megan. Megan is handicapped and just spent a week in the hospital. Madison wanted something to cheer her up, so she picked out all the colors and told me just what to make. Casey looks just like a lab, but with a curly tail and a blue tongue.

Last is a giraffe I made last week when I was bored. It was loosely based off of something I saw online (maybe here?), but I can't seem to find the original to give credit. If it was yours, please let me know!!

All of them are felt, which is my favorite medium right now. I'm totally game for constructive criticism. =)

152  My first plushies! in Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects by PirateColey on: February 06, 2009 01:13:56 PM
I love felt. I've always loved felt. It doesn't fray, doesn't shed, doesn't flop. I've loved felt since I was a little kid. Anyway- last week I decided to make a few felt plushies based on tutes I saw around the 'net. Here's the first four.

My husband then declared that he was going to draw a creature and have me make a plushie out of it. Be afraid- be VERY afraid.

His drawing was of this pig. With a large mustache. And a single chest hair.

Why? I have no idea.

But I made him. My husband loved him and my mother laughed so hard I thought she'd peed herself, so I guess the whole project was worth-while. One of the cats kidnapped Mustacio Pig, which is why his eyes look a little weird. Oh well.

And now my mom has drawn her own creature for me to make. So, stay tuned for the six-legged, pirate octopus. lol

153  My first bag! in Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General by PirateColey on: February 06, 2009 01:02:00 PM

Well... today I finished my first bag! It was also the first time I've lined anything, and the first zipper I've ever put in. Zipper feet are neat!!

The bag is based on a Simplicity pattern, but the directions were terrible, so I made up a lot of stuff as I went along. The main fabric was in the corduroy section, but was something else... and I can't remember what it's called. The inside is cotton. There are two outside pockets with flaps, a zippered inside pocket, and an inside pencil pocket with a key fob.

This is the fabric I lined everything with. I wanted something book-ish, but had a REALLY difficult time finding anything. Which is sad. But I finally found these little owls, and I'm rather fond of them now.

Anyway... I think it turned out pretty well for my first bag. I get how they go together now, so I think the next one will go a lot quicker/smoother. This one took about 10 hours to complete.

If you have any tips on things I should do differently, please let me know. I'm always open to constructive criticism.
