1  Re: Promalong - Making your own Prom dress? Join the club! in Clothing Sewalongs by hdoglovesyou on: April 12, 2006 07:55:11 AM
I'm pretty sure i posted on this thread last year, but whatever I'm back! Last year i got a dress at Goodwill for $25 and boy it was a BEAUTY. This year i made my dress from a pattern. It's simplicity #4272 and i did a combination of view B and C and a little altering to make my dress! It's a Jessica McClinock pattern and the fabric does a gradient from aqua blue to dark aqua blue! I'M PRETTY MUCH IN LOVE! the lining is gold and there's a little matching gold button (i made it myself) to match!

The pattern called for boning, but I didn't put that crap in because last year i had boning in my dress, and when i would sit down i had to stop breathing. and i almost burst out of my dress after i ate dinner, so i figured i'd give myself a little wiggle room this year.

Prom should be a blast, and I'm so excited because i made everything myself! I don't care if everyone else's dresses are more awesome than mine. I'm just excited to go in something that I made for MYSELF! These pictures kind of blow. I tried and i failed. Maybe i'll take better ones later.

I also made a matching clutch using this tutorial, and i'm IN LOVE with it! (You can see pictures of it on that thread)

The boyfriend will be sporting a matching vest and tie made by yours truly! Smiley

2  Re: classy pleated iridescent clutch TUTORIAL ADDED!!!! in Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General by hdoglovesyou on: April 12, 2006 07:52:24 AM
Here's my take on this sexy little clutch. I used a zipper as a closure instead of a button, but otherwise i stuck to the directions! You did an awesome job with the tutorial and i thank you kindly for it! <3

I made the clutch to match my prom dress for my senior prom. I'm really happy with the way it turned out, although i wish i would have ironed those pleats better because they're looking a little sad. hahah

the clutch!

the zipper. i lined the bag with some crazy fabric that was my grandma's. It's like mustard yellow with jillions of blue flowers. it's adorable.

3  Re: THE BIG WINTER HOLIDAY GIFT THREAD!!!! in Winter Holidays by hdoglovesyou on: November 28, 2005 01:37:23 PM
HEY! i have quite a few gifts to get for my friends this year for christmas, and i don't know how many people are in the same boat... so i just thought i'd post what i'm doing.

i'm buying some cheap fugly looking mugs at the dollar store, then making cozies for them like this:

i found the idea on THIS thread.
i'm either going to knit them or sew them out of fleece.

- christmas-y candy! peppermints, red & green m&m's, maybe some caramel cremes, too. because EVERYONE loves them!
- chapstick (i found burt's bee's for $1 each at five below!)
- a small notebook that i'm personalizing by drawing pictures, decoupaging from magazines, glitterizing, writing lyrics, inside jokes... ETC! amazon has them for REALLY CHEAP: 3 for $1.75

- chocolate covered pretzels. ALL YA GOTTA DO is buy some big ol' container of pretzel rods, melt some chocolate in a double boiler. dip the pretzel and then roll it in some sprinkles or some kind of sugary goodness! then just wrap 'em up fancy and let people think you're some kind of cooking god.

well almost. some of my friends are getting speical gifts like scarves... or PUZZLE BOOKS!
i'm buying my boyfriend a sweater from express men. he loves to look classy.

7  i live inside a TANGERINE. in Interior Decorating: Completed Projects by hdoglovesyou on: July 23, 2005 01:28:11 PM
this past month, i prepared. i washed. i cleaned. i bought. i primed. i sealed. i waited. i PAINTED.

i take great pride in the color of my room. the top half (ceiling included) is "osage orange", the bottom half is "naval" all the paint, supplies, and rollers, ETC cost me about $100. it was an expensive project, but TOTALLY WORTH IT. oh, and my door is orange too. i have a hanging ironing board. everyone should get one of those.

here are some pictures.

firstly, me in my sexxxxy room. its my new myspace picture. COMMON NOW. its absolutely necessary.

my sewing desk. i got it for free at a garage sale. it was like 1PM and the woman was like "just get this out of my house!" and i was like "FINE! I'LL TAKE IT!" so now its mine. it used to be ugly wood, but now its white because i like to paint.

picture from "a distance." orange is such a FAB color.

my dresser, mirror next to it. and thread holder next to that. its just a slab of wood with nails in it. beneath my window is a bookcase thingo from IKEA where i keep all my FABRIC! <3

fabric in bookcase thingo. i really need to oraganize it better, but its always an adventure when i rummage through. i find things i forgot about.

other assorted sewing items, the little box (greenish w/ gold) my mom found at a garage sale for FIVE DOLLARS. and it was filled with all sorts of goodies. she ran with it, i got it for my birthday. basket contains things that i've sewn/made. purses, wallets, earrings ETC!

my bed! i got the duvet cover at a garage sale for twooooooooo dollars! i like it. the purple curtains are makeshift until i get me some that match my room. i'm thinking about hitting up IKEA for some white curtains.

me and my dog (pompay) GETTING EXCITED! we love being in my room.

i hope this inspired someone. i just wanted to share my excitement. maybe this just gave you something to look at for a minute or two. who knows!!

thanks for looking!
happy crafting!

alright, my dress may not exactly belong in this thread but .... i'll do it anyway! i found my dress at a thrift shop and bought if for ONLY 25$$$!!!!

the sleeves were ripped, so i sewed them back on by hand. i also plan on hemming it because i'm TINY! i'm only 5' 1" so its a bit long for me. tell me what you think! and let me know if you think i should make any other adjustments! <3

9  5 ft long wall collage = totally awesome. in Interior Decorating: Completed Projects by hdoglovesyou on: February 06, 2005 11:04:09 AM
OK! so i had this really bad accident with myself going through a glass window the other morning. 7 stitches in my ear and 4 in my head! OUCH! and various cuts on my hand... but ANYWAY i was home from school for the past few days, and i really couldn't do anything involving a lot of energy, so this is what i did to get my mind off the pain!  Grin

all i did was measure a section on my wall from end to end that lined up with my window on the left side.

then on the top and bottom i traced 1 1/4" radius half-circles, one next to the other with a good ol' black sharpie. then painted inside the lines because that's what i'm best at.

then i took a bunch of pictures, ads, ticket stubs, postcards, cards, ETC and taped them up on my wall in whatever way i so pleased. i covered it up pretty nicely!!

i'm proud. i like the way it looks.

ALSO! last year (jan 2004) i created an easy way to store most of my thread. so its right next to my machine, i can see all the colors! ETC/WHATEVER!

i found a nice long slab of wood in my shed and asked my dad if i could have it. he said yes, so i spray painted it SILVER! just for fun... (actually it was all we had) then about every 2 inches or something... (i can't remember now) i drew a mark then nailed in a nail! its holding up pretty nicely

i nailed 2 more nails on either side near the top, and attached string to that and its hanging up! i nailed it into the wall with help from my dad. its a little heavy but i haven't had any problems with it.

hope you like! or at least get some ideas or something!

10  Re: the oh-so fun duct tape in Purses, Bags, Wallets: Discussion and Questions by hdoglovesyou on: December 29, 2004 08:03:39 AM
here's how i'd do it:

for the weaving, i would definitely use little tiny squares of duct tape to hold it all together, and at the end put a bunch of strips on the inside/backside whatever you want to call it to kind of flatten it out and keep it firmly together! and i'd also use different color duct tape, like black and red! hope that helps!
