2  CLOTHING / Clothing for Kids: Completed Projects / Toddler Pants out of Adult pants! on: March 08, 2011 08:14:36 AM
I found this tutorial online and loved the idea: http://thismamamakesstuff.com/tutorial-slim-slack-for-boys/

So I went to Goodwill and found two pairs of pants for about $6 total.  The first pair I got are a very lightweight corduroy with pineapples embroidered on them:

Here's the result! The only thing different on this pair of pants, is that instead of sewing the elastic in the back waistband in each side seam, I sewed it in one side seam, and put a buttonhole in the waistband near the other side seam, and used that elastic that has buttonholes in it, so it makes the pants adjustable. (did that make sense?)

The second pair is a brown and white stripe.  I was looking for seersucker but this was the closest I got:

This time I widened the legs so they are more straight leg:

I love that I get unique pants for just a few dollars!!
3  Halloween / Halloween Costumes / Curious George and the Man in the Yellow Hat on: November 03, 2010 06:13:50 PM
My son's favorite character is George, so of course he needed to be him!  I made his costume from Simplicity's 2506, a basic costume suit and hood.  I modified the hood face opening to look more like George's.  I bought the red tshirt, cut the sleeves and length short, and embroidered the lettering.  I used tan felt to make the hands, feet and ears, it worked well to make the feet sit on top of his shoes (more functional for a 2 year old!)

Looking in the mirror for the first time:

With his Daddy...no real making of this costume, just the hat, so my submission is just little Georgie.  But totally cute, just the same!

And a kiss, monkey to monkey:

Vote for George!

5  PAPER CRAFTS, SCRAPBOOKING & ATCs (ARTIST TRADING CARDS) / Paper Crafts: Discussion and Questions / decoupaging photos question on: February 19, 2010 12:58:35 PM
I'm trying to repurpose a board book.  I've painted all the pages, and now am trying to decoupage photos on each page.

I got all my photos printed at the same time, same finish, paper, etc. However, on about half of the photos, the decoupage medium peeled off completely after it was totally dry! Weird how some stayed in place just fine, and the others the medium woulnd't stick to the photo finish. (all the photos stuck to the book I am decoupaging, it's just the top coat layer that didn't stick)

Are there any tips out there for decoupaging photos? I'd hate to have to go color copy them all, since I just paid to have the printed.

Thanks, Kahlan, it means a lot coming from you!

The tiny pieces were hard for me too....and some of them I ended up satin stitching over and they looked a lot better.  (like the eyes for instance on some of them)

Thank you all for your replies!  Audio! Thanks for such a detailed critique!  It was a lot of fun to work on this.  Each little thing I did made such a big difference.

BTW, the kangaroo page is the Australian flag (the stars, blue background and upper left design).  I added the kangaroo, and the boomerang because my husband throws boomerangs!

Also- Drake is a dragon as well.  So that why I used that for the first page!

I was incredibly inspired by this name book I found on here a few months ago.  I loved the level of detail and color choices, and decided to make one for my son who will be 1 in a few months!!

Here's the inspiration:  https://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=281256.0

And here's my result:

Thanks for looking!
9  HOME SWEET HOME / Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: General / Re: Simpsons mosaic table on: July 27, 2009 05:40:05 AM
How did you do the black outlines? Is that grout? How did you get it so precise?

Did you color your own grout?  This is fantastic.  Nice work!
