1  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Discussion and Questions / buy nothing day!!! (and holiday season :) on: November 08, 2005 05:54:41 PM

crafty boys and girls, i propose (in maybe a looser sense than intended) that we all refuse to buy pre-manufactured goods for our friends and families this christmas and make all of our gifts- i tried to do this last year and it worked pretty well aside from a couple of storebought things. i realize that raw materials will be neccessary and we'll have to buy needles, thread, canvas, paintbrushes, yarn, whatever supplies we'll need, but isn't the sentiment so much more sincere if we make things rather than buy them outright? it's just something i believe in and thought i'd share with you all who i am sure are fairly like-minded.
2  SEWING IN GENERAL / Sewing Machines: Discussion and Questions / please help!! i can't fix my foot :( on: October 29, 2005 10:55:57 AM
i borrowed a sewing machine (kenmore, model 385.15510200) from a friend and while i was using it the foot fell off! and if that isn't enough, it then broke into 2 pieces! i don't think it's broken i just don't know how to get it back together... any help on this would be GREATLY appreciated!  Embarrassed
3  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / my first sewing project since... umm... forever. on: October 08, 2005 01:04:12 PM
i made a bag out of some crazy plaid that's been laying around for a really long time, and a thrift store shirt i bought for this project, so it's kind of a reconstructed thing... anyways, i haven't ever completed a sewing project, this is my first one, done on 2 of my friends sewing machines... and then i stencilled on it.

this is the bag...

that's the lining, made from a grody old lady shirt from amvets...

detail of the contrast stitching (i love this thread!!)

just another shot of the stencil.
lemme know what you think Grin
4  IMAGE REPRODUCTION TECHNIQUES / Stenciling: Completed Projects / new percival bag... minus giraffe... on: October 08, 2005 09:22:43 AM
i made this bag and stencilled a moose onto it. the lettering says "percival"... since most people who see the bag in person have an extremely difficult time reading it... to me though, it doesn't look like it says anything else. here goes:

thanks for looking, hope you enjoy! comments/critiques are welcome and appreciated!  Grin
5  IMAGE REPRODUCTION TECHNIQUES / Stenciling: Completed Projects / percival the giraffe stencil :) on: September 26, 2005 07:27:03 PM
this is my first attempt at stenciling... i used a TON of craftster advice, thank you everyone who posted in the discussion threads! first off, FREEZER PAPER IS AWESOME! i got it at the grocery store ($3.19 for 75 ft.) the giraffe comes from the animal font downloaded at www.dafont.com.

that is my little set-up (yes i know my living room rug is hideous.) i cut out the image from freezer paper on top of the phonebook, then got to ironing...

and there is a closer-up. i used a black acrylic paint, and a rather thin paintbrush. so, whatchya think?
6  CROCHET / Crochet: Discussion and Questions / urban outfitters skirt- any ideas??? on: September 20, 2005 07:42:38 PM
<P> my friend dana likes this skirt- i don't crochet, i knit and i am pretty sure this skirt's crocheted... anyone have any idea how to make a skirt that looks like this or close to it? could a pattern be sort of "made up" for it? i would like to have my mom's fiance's mother crochet it for her. thanks!
