81  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Misc. Gift Idea Brain Blockage / Re: THE GENERIC BOYFRIEND GIFT THREAD: A How-To! on: January 26, 2009 08:48:46 AM
I thought it would be impossible to craft for my new beau but all this has inspired me. I'm going to get a silk wildrag (scarf) for when we ride in the cold and try to put a little subtle heart on one corner, just for that personal touch!

I have some pictures of us working, riding etc too. Any manly ideas on how to turn those into something nifty for him to hang on his walls? Something a little more than just a photo in a frame...
82  CANADA / Alberta / Re: calgary, anyone? on: January 21, 2009 08:43:49 AM
Its been a while since anyone commented here and I was just wondering whats shakin? Im not much into the knitting...yet but would be happy to give it more of a go if I were able to meet some craftsters in the area!

If anyone is ever out in Cochrane there is a store called Home Treasures. Its basically a constant garage sale. People drop off whatever and it gets sold by volunteers. The money helps out local support services and its a really organized and cool place. There is everything...EVERYthing you might find at a garage sale. Also for you clothing recyclers there is the same idea next door with clothing!
83  COOKING / Recipes and Cooking Tips / Beef on a Bun...yummy sauce on: January 19, 2009 09:16:45 AM
I know loads of folks who do beef on a bun with plain BBQ sauce and whatnot. I found this recipe and used it for our big mid winter party. It got so many comments that I get to make it every year now!

On the stove in a heavy pan...
Brown 4 tbsp of finely chopped onion in butter (I add some garlic to this)

Add 2 cups of ketchup, stir until bubbling,
Add 2 tablespoons of molasses, 1/4 cup of brown sugar, 1 tbsp lemon juice

Cook about 10 min or so. (add more br sugar if needed)
This would be enough for about 6 people.

I always put it in a dish so people can choose if they want it but if you weren't having a lot of people you could slice your beef and set it in this delicious sauce.
84  REUSING/RECYCLING/RECRAFTING / What the heck can I do with THIS? / Piano Keys! on: January 16, 2009 03:00:28 PM
A few years ago my grandma moved to a place she cant have a piano. One of her pianos was not salvageable for anything but I kept a few parts including most of the keys! If you have never seen an entire piano key it has a good hunk of wood out the back that attaches it to the rest of the piano. I don't mind painting them or cutting them up but it would be great to find something to do with them.

I appreciate the help.

p.s. this is my first post. I discovered this site recently and the creativity it has infused into my life has been spectacular!
85  REUSING/RECYCLING/RECRAFTING / What the heck can I do with THIS? / Re: Buttons on: January 15, 2009 09:18:01 AM
Ive been wanting to replace my cupboard knobs in my house. I had thought if you could find a good size and shape button you could fix it to a screw and voila!

On another note I just joined up a few days ago and have never been so inspired! The craft community spirit is amazing. You can just feel the love!
86  HOME SWEET HOME / Interior Decorating: Completed Projects / Re: Paint chips + contact paper = Homemade Wallpaper! on: January 13, 2009 01:32:23 PM
What a great idea! I might try what you suggested with the magazines or various interesting bits of paper.
