32  FIBER ARTS / Spinning: Completed Projects / Fiber Friday 2.20.09! We love Fiber, yes we do! on: February 20, 2009 12:00:01 AM

Dust Bunnies

This is my first Fiber friday post! Yay! I, like many other have lurked for quite a while but now I'm here to pounce.
I started spinning last September when I got enlisted to help my co-workers at our state fairs Sheep to Shall. I carded for about 6 hours straight then they taught me to spin since I was there and all and they were my ride home...I've been addicted ever since.

70% Merino 30% Silk
This was my second bobbin that I turned into this...

My first attempt at Weaving.

Core spun Kid mohair
I love love love this yarn. The color is so deep and lovely but it just won't photograph well. I changed the tint to make it a little closer which is why the gold thread looks so orange. Embarrassed

The Dead Snake roving
My first dye work. I was very unhappy with it before I put it in the microwave after space dying. I said it just looked like a sad dead snake and...it just sort of stuck. I loved it when it was all clean and dry, it's really amazing to see the difference.

Dead Snake Spun up

The beginning of whatever it becomes at this point....I'm thinking a neck ruff.

Nun in a blender
Now....I know the name is horrible.......but...My godmother has a friend that's a nun and she's evil. Really. She hates children and is just very cold. I have for as long as I could remember tried to get her to like me...so every christmas when she came to Seattle I'd make her something to try and work my witchy wonders on her. Every year I'd make bigger and better things and she never liked me better. So this year I decided I'd process my own wool and spin her yarn then weave her something out of it....making a long story short bad things happened during the holidays my favorite being that my godmother knowingly fed me beef broth when I haven't had red meat in half my life and I didn't make a big deal about it at the dinner table I just said I wished I didn't get sick and the nun told me to "Just suck it up" Anyone with an allergy or who has been a vegetarian for a while knows you can't just "Suck it up".....so that's where the name comes from and I might just keep the yarn to myself.  Angry

My Precious
Solid Oak Louet circa 1970
My co-workers went in with my mom to buy it for my for my 21st in January. I was speechless. I'm going to paint "One wheel to rule them all and in the darkness twine them" on the outer side of the wheel. we're trying to find elvish translations as well. My co workers were saying I was acting like gollum with my spinning wheel so we made a bunch of LORT/Fiber jokes until that's what we ended up with.

Being woven right now.

Dust Bunnies on the Bobbin.
Mohair, Shetland, Llama, Alpaca, Merino, a few bags that were unmarked and Angelina
This was another that was hard to photograph but this is actually true to the colors.

Dust Bunnies scarf
I meant for it to be a collar but...I know nothing about knitting...so this happened and I love it.

This has been my explosion of fiber, I'm pushing myself though some projects at the moment so maybe I'll have a few more next week! Can't wait to see everyone else's!

The yarn looks lovely!...but...THAT'S SO GROSS! You're a stronger person then I. I would have thrown it all out. My boyfriend used to work in a dog grooming place and yeah, wow. I'm excited to see the pictures when you're done!

Some one may have said this already but if you like it to look darker in those edited photos you could do a dye pot of blue but put very little actually in so it's more of a wash and just quickly dip it instead of letting it sit in there. But make sure you test it on a swatch cause some dyes strike faster then others. They are very cute. My boyfriend would like one!  Cheesy

Whatever happened to Fay Wray, that delicate satin draped frame?" Hee hee, I used to go see this at midnight with my friends in high school. Because I'm old...

This is great! How fun Smiley
I used to go to the midnight shows all the time. I was always Magenta though I still want to be Janet Roll Eyes It's just too darn cold to go running about in just your skivvies!

How it clung to her tight, I started to cry cause I wanted to be dressed just the same. Give yourself over to absolute pleasure!
