1  Plastic Canvas Castle in Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects by averyg on: October 10, 2018 07:15:36 PM
For Christmas this year, Ive decided to go all handmade for my family members- especially for my niece (whose birthday is two weeks beforehand). When doing the Google to try to think of some ideas of what to make, I stumbled across a plastic canvas castle (http://www.craftdrawer.com/2015/12/how-to-make-plastic-canvas-jewelry-box.html?m=1), which became my inspiration.

I was lucky enough to find the plastic canvas at a local craft store (hello, 90s!) and set to work drafting my own pattern. Approximately 80 hours later (or three seasons of TVD and half of a season of The Originals), here we are! I didnt have any experience with plastic canvas, aside from a few rather failed attempts as a child.

Im quite happy with how it turned out, but wish I had made more supports in the roof portion beforehand (rather than figuring it out at the very end). And now I kind of want to keep it for myself- but seeing as shes so cute, Ill make my own at another time (Hogwarts, anyone?). I also painted her a few peg dolls and found the perfectly petite little wood furniture to also finish. I finished the inside with felt, to help hide some of the stitches.

2  Busy/ Quiet Book- Harry Potter, Star Wars, Disney, etc. in Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects by averyg on: September 03, 2018 04:38:24 PM
My nieces first birthday is fast approaching and I wanted to make her a present which will (hopefully) last her many years to come- and one which she can interact with quite a bit. Each page of the book is correlated with a letter of her name, MILLIE- and features some of my favourite things, so we can learn about them together. Everything is hand sewn, since many of the pieces were too small for my finicky sewing machine- being a perfectionist, the binding does bug me a bit- but, alas...

It took a minimum of 3 hours on each page- closer to 5-6 for some (I think Ive managed to get through 2 seasons of The Vampire Diaries over the course of the last two weeks).

Mail (I was inspired by this particular page by a page I saw floating around on Pinterest). The envelope opens and Im planning on putting a letter to Hogwarts in it and some photos of our family.

Indominus  Rex (Jurassic World)

Lion King (when I first stared this page, I wasnt convinced- but it actually is now my most favourite)

Ice (Olaf)- this page has an I-Spy bag quality to it, with the sparkles being able to be shaken around

Ive now, admittedly, become quite obsessed with stitching these pages and am considering adding pages to it with each passing holiday.

3  Monster High Reroots- Part 2 in Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects by averyg on: February 26, 2014 11:51:28 AM
I've recently become obsessed with rerooting Monster High dolls (as you can also see from this post). I purchase the dolls from Ebay, rip their heads off (using this method), and go to town, giving them funky hair styles (particularly using yarn that resembles dreadlocks). The girls typically take about half a season of TV to do (so roughly 8-10 hours each).

Here is my latest batch of girls (and, without a doubt, my most favourite to date)!

Frankie Stein:

Cleo de Nile:

Ghoulia Yelps:

I also just ordered another 22 dolls off of Ebay, so I'm sure that this won't be the last that you'll be seeing from me! Wink

4  Monster High Reroots in Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects by averyg on: February 08, 2014 02:15:53 PM
I've been a HUGE fan of Monster High dolls for a fair while now and an even bigger fan of those who can completely customize them.

When I stumbled across all of the gems that Ebay has to offer a few weeks ago, I finally got the nerve to try my hand at customizing the dolls myself- reroots so far, but hopefully their make-up in the next week or so! With their reroots I use yarn, primarily acrylic-based yarn, that has a dreadlock look to it! Also, I use the knot method, which makes the hair a bit more secure when styling it (you can find a good tutorial for removing the doll's head/ hair HERE).

These are the dolls as I purchased them from Ebay- as you can see they were clearly in need of a little TLC:

Here's Cleo de Nile after her reroot:

And Clawdeen:

And Draculaura:

I'm also working on a Frankie and another Draculaura- and a half dozen others when they arrive next week! Wink

You can find more detailed pictures of them over on Flickr: http://www.flickr.com/photos/[email protected]/

5  Dinosaur Garden 2.0 in Exterior Decorating / Yard Art / Gardening: Completed Projects by averyg on: June 04, 2013 05:50:39 PM
Being as I am a huge dinosaur lover, when I saw Nolansmomster's amazing dinosaur garden, that her and her son made for her mom for Mother's Day, I KNEW that I had to make one. Unfortunately I wasn't able to find as cool of succulents in my area as she was able to, but I still loved how it turned out!

Plus, I love the fact that even my less-than green thumb will more than likely not kill this project. Wink

All in all, the project was only a couple of dollars ($1 for the rocks, $1 for the dinosaurs, $1 for the blue jewels, $1 for the moss $3 for the baking dish, dirt I stole from my dad's recently planted garden- though don't tell him that- and hens/ chickens from my sister's MIL who graciously donated them after hearing the cause Wink =$7 overall).

Again, huge thanks to Nolanmomster for the wonderful idea!

Details of swap:
In this swap you will just be crafting one completed and clothed (if applicable) poppet for your partner. ***Just to clarify, this swap is considered a poppet mini swap in the sense that we are simply about sending a single poppet, as opposed to sending a poppet with supplies and whatnot, as would be required in a larger swap. However, if you would like to make or receive a mini (or smaller sized) poppet, please indicate it in your questionnaire and we will do our best to partner you accordingly*** Check out the poppet along which will help you with any questions in creating your poppet or give you inspiration https://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=205341.0. As we would like to keep this swap as fair as possible and not have anyone feel as if they sent more than their partner, please just keep the package to the one completed poppet, unless you discuss swapping more with your partner beforehand!

Things to keep in mind:
1. Flakers will not be tolerated.
2. This swap has a mandatory weekly check in. This means that you must post (at least) once a week in the discussion thread in order to keep both your partner and us, the organizers, in the loop as to how your poppet is progressing and in order to reassure us that you are still alive in the world of poppets. We will be keeping a record of such posts and if you have poor communication, it will be noted in your feedback.
3. If you have not heard from your partner for awhile or notice that your partner has not been active in Craftster for a while, and you are feeling concerned, PM us! Or if for any reason whatsoever you have concerns, feel free to PM us!
4. We will not approve anyone who has multiple feedbacks stating that they have poor communication, have not used a DC#, or is a consistent late sender.
5. Everyone is expected to send on time.  If you are going to be late, you must notify us ASAP. Those who are late and do NOT notify us, will receive negative feedback which will not be removed or corrected until the poppet is sent, we receive a DC# and the package is received.
6.  Posting photos in the gallery is a rule of this swap.  Failure to do so will result in a comment in your feedback. A big part of swapping is posting your goodies in the gallery and acknowledging your partner's work, plus, we want to see all of the new additions to the poppet family! If you do not have access to a camera, please contact your partner and ask if they can take pictures of both packages which they send/receive.
7. If you are an international swapper or sending internationally and are unable to get a DC# you must retain a copy of your shipping receipt. If for any reason your package goes missing and you do not have a copy of the receipt to provide us the organizers, you will have to resend to your partner.

When you send averyg a PM, please label it as Poppet Mini Swap Approval/ Sent/ Received/ etc.

9  Poppet Mini Swap Round 5 in New Swap Theme Ideas by averyg on: March 19, 2013 05:21:37 PM

It's almost that time again folks, time for the 5th annual Poppet Mini Swap!

I was just wondering when would work best for everyone? Personally having the sign-ups early-April and beginning a week or two later would work best for me with school, however I realize that that may not work best for everyone else. So sound off below!

Now, to help with any confusion which may arise... This swap is not about strictly swapping smaller sized poppets (unless that it, that is something you and your partner agree on), this swap is all about simply swapping one clothed poppet. Unlike the larger poppet swaps, this swap does not require you to swap any supplies or whatnot.

10  Re: Poppet Mini Swap Round Four Gallery in The Swap Gallery by averyg on: July 20, 2012 01:35:34 PM
Today I received the most gorgeous poppet from Lanikins! She is a character, Nora, from one of my most favourite books (it's a zombie book, no surprise there I'm sure... Wink ) "Dearly, Departed" by Lia Habel.

Here is a description of Nora in one scene in the book: "I was wearing a swirly black knee-length skirt with a short crinoline underneath it, black stockings, and black knee-high boots. I had a white blouse with elbow-length sleeves tucked into the skirt. She'd tied my hair back with a white ribbon, just to get it out of the way" (Habel, pg. 237).

And the cutest description of how her love interest, Bram, reacts when he sees her, thrown in for good measure... Wink

"He was looking at me as if he had never seen me before. I felt the heat rising in my cheeks again" (Habel, pg. 237).

The workmanship of this piece is ridiculous. I cannot even begin to describe it- DO YOU SEE THOSE BUTTONS! They are like mere millimeters in width! And the boots? Did you make those Lani, because if so :O!

She is gorgeous and I will cherish her FOREVS!
