1  HOME SWEET HOME / Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / A Dresser Gets a Third Life (With a ton of pics to prove it!) on: May 14, 2009 10:44:29 PM
A teaser:

The dresser's first life was all white and belonged in my room when I was, oh, about 12.  No pic of that, but you can imagine.

The second life came when I moved out and my roommate and I gave it a much needed paint job.  Only, we were pretty broke and so just used leftover house paint from my parents garage.  We never loved it, but at least it looked better.

Life 2.5 came abt 6/7 years after that when I needed a dresser for my daughter and found out that Mom had this one in a closet.  I took it and stuck seashell stickers all over it in an attempt to match my daughters beachy room.

But, the pink/blue/yellow/white still wasn't working for me, so after eventually it became this:

I'm pretty proud of it.  It is not an original drawing my any sense of the imagination.  I found a free printable online coloring page and made a grid on it and on the dresser and drew it out.  Then, months (and I mean months) later I painted it.  Now, it is finally done.  It is my first real project like this...and I'm pretty pleased with how it turned out (when my perfectionist side doesn't get in the way that is  Roll Eyes)  Here are some details, the design wraps all the way around:

Much better than the original, wouldn't you say!  And perfect for a beach themed room.  Grin C&C most welcome!!!!
2  TOYS, DOLLS AND PLAYTHINGS / Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects / Ta-da! A crayon apron made (pattern and all...) by me! (pic heavy) on: April 10, 2009 12:26:55 PM
I am so excited about this...

Growing up I had a crayon apron.  Well, I now have a daughter and she has been using mine.  Mine is sorta...old and needs some love and, quite honestly, isn't terribly cute.  Well, in my attempt to figure out this sewing thing I decided that I would make on for my daughter.  During the process, I totally changed the look and didn't stick to the original "pattern" at all.  Eventually - I came up with this.  She is going to receive it in her Easter basket...

I am so happy with how it turned out!!!  Very very pleased.   Grin  Here is a close up of the material and ribbon...

And here is the picture of the original so you can see where I started.

Oh, and I promise that in real life all the lines are straight and such and not so wonky looking.   Tongue I have a terrible time getting good pictures and couldn't have my daughter model because she doesn't really know about it yet and is taking a nap anyway.

I have another to make for my niece...if anyone is interested in a tutorial that is... Wink

3  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / My Hawaiian Buttercup Bag on: March 16, 2009 11:33:37 PM
I found this awesome free online pattern last week and had to make one!  It was my first purse and my first experience with pleats, and it came out great.

You can get the pattern here:  http://madebyrae.blogspot.com/2009/02/free-buttercup-bag-sewing-pattern.html

4  TOYS, DOLLS AND PLAYTHINGS / Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects / My Felt Board/Box (And my 1st post!) on: February 26, 2009 08:15:39 PM
Okay - so totally nervous as this is my first post...but I was totally excited about this project today.  I decided somewhere along the line that my not-quite-2 daughter needed a felt board to play with.  Lacking felt of considerable size to make a large one, I decided to cover a cereal box with the felt I had on hand.  The results were this:

The box is blue on one side and black on the other.  The flowers and the tree are all separate pieces that can be put together anyway her heart desires.  All in all it took me about an hour to get this far.  I working on the pieces for a felt house and have some large flowers too.  I can't wait to do more.  And,I love that since it is a cereal box, the pieces can go in the middle and be self-contained!

Comments welcome!!!
