1  back of car seat organizer in Completed Projects by Averia on: November 03, 2019 03:54:03 PM
I am probably putting this in the wrong place, but it didn't really seem to fit in any of the sewing categories.

I didn't see anything out there that was exactly what I wanted so I stitched up this organizer with a zippered pocket to hold an old tablet we had laying around, and pleated pockets for books, a drink, crayons and whatever else my grandbaby might want in the car. I made the clear window by recycling a plastic wrapper from a set of sheets. The strap has velcro and is somewhat adjustable.

A bit of a glare in the picture, but hopefully will be fine to watch videos through.

2  yet another biscornu in Needlework: Completed Projects by Averia on: November 03, 2019 03:18:13 PM
I had meant for this to be a white elephant gift at the Maryland meet up, but alas, family emergency the night before kept me from finishing on time. I love to make biscornu - they look much more difficult (at least to me) than they are to put together. This one is 3", with just a smidge of beading.

bottom view - including a little goof - one design is a space off, but that just shows it is handmade, right?]

4  coffee til cocktails in Needlework: Completed Projects by Averia on: October 14, 2019 07:07:32 PM
Cute little Urban threads design that I stitched up for my coffee and alcohol obsessed daughter for her new condo - went a lot quicker than I expected.

5  Peacock - actually made it for myself in Needlework: Completed Projects by Averia on: October 14, 2019 07:05:16 PM
I never make things for myself. But I vowed this year I would make myself something and here he is. An Urban threads design (I think it was Kittykill who gave me a gift certificate in OWS a while back - I stocked up on a bunch of lovely patterns that just sat in my downloads). It has been hanging around a few months as my portable project so I don't really have a good feel for how long he took. He's framed under a 5x7 matte board.

and framed up

6  Angel wing quilt in Quilting: Completed Projects by Averia on: October 07, 2019 04:53:15 AM
TAOJ listed an angel wing art quilt as her first choice in the geezer swap. I looked around at different patterns that were out there and I really wasn't loving much of what I saw. I thought I would give applique wings on a simple patchwork base a try (she did request blue and grey - wasn't just my love of blue driving the background colors). I left the edges raw, hoping the rag edges would create a feathery feel.  6 washings later, I think it was finally getting to what I envisioned. the size is about 2' x 2.5'.

7  flannel rag quilt in Quilting: Completed Projects by Averia on: October 07, 2019 04:43:41 AM
I was so excited when my son saw a quilt he wanted. Didn't look too hard - just a bunch of really big flannel blocks rag quilted together. OMG I now hate flannel! You cannot keep this fabric square. all the plaids ended up wonky. But I do like the finished product. and it is the softest warmest quilt ever. I used a regular store bought binding in green (son's favorite color). I made it a large full size and it was nearly the death of my sewing machine even though it was a rag quilt.

8  Ticker tape I-spy baby quilt in Quilting: Completed Projects by Averia on: October 07, 2019 04:28:53 AM
So many craftsters have sent me scraps of amazing fabric over the years. some specially for this quilt - Must mention CraftyLittleMonkey who heard I was making this and reached out to me - Thank you!. Making this for my granddaughter was a labor of love in many ways. Not sure it counts as a true ticker tape quilt because some of the fabric pieces are pretty big. my apologies to the quilt description police if they are watching and I am mistaken. All the pieces are zig-zag stitched down, binding is plain old store bought binding, stitched by hand because hand stitching is what I enjoy.

I took the 2 pictures below after 9 months of use and several washings, so it is getting a little worn looking, but generally holding up pretty well.

How the back looks:

and a close up of the front - longjohns drying on the line - love that fabric.

9  Re: Ongoing One Tiny Thing Swap Rd 1 Gallery in The Swap Gallery by Averia on: September 30, 2019 07:25:48 PM
Alisha your stamps are unbelievable! How do you get the fine lines so perfect?

Is there any doubt that great minds think alike? Allons-y and veghorsegirl must have had some sort of mind meld going on. They both sent me adorable Christmas Stitch items!

Here is my cute christmas ornament from Allons-y

And from veghorsegirl a sweet postcard quilt.

Thanks ladies, I love how similar they are and yet they are still unique - truly can one ever have enough Christmas Stitch? I think not

10  Re: Tea Swap - The Gallery! in The Swap Gallery by Averia on: September 26, 2019 05:22:29 PM
I do believe my partner Flygirl88 was confused about the size of this swap. She sent me the most amazing tea pot turned windchime - with removable windchime portion in case I want to keep it as a tea pot. It is a lovely tea pot and it is blue!!!!! I know I tend to keep quiet about it, but I really do love the color blue. a tea pot in blue as windchime is extra lovely, but then again, it is lovely as a tea pot,.. not sure how to use it... it is the same size as my glass one so my cozy (from jemimah) will fit perfectly on either... oh decisions, decisions

on to the rest of haul. The tea - I put a teaspoon into my favorite tea mug - built in strainer so you can just add loose tea. It is strawberry flavored green tea and I was thinking the reddish bits must be dried strawberries. Sounded good to me, but no, so glad I used this mug. Isn't the tea lovely with the floral bits all opened up? Not sewn flowers (tried those once - got a package of 12 different ones, but they all tasted oddly of soap to me. yes lovely, but lovely without the flavor wasn't worth it) This is both lovely and delicious.

Then these little beaded reusable tea bags made from actual flour sack in her grandmother's stash. Taking my new tea to work in these extra special little bags.

A bookmark made out of a recycled tea bag

Origami box holding goodies

very fancy and elegant cards (hadn't noticed the spoon was bent in the pic - it straightened out just fine. I was probably a little over eager tearing into the package)

Are we done? no not yet - Here's a cute little pin, a lovely little sticker and a thumb rest to hold books open! I have wanted one of these for ages. So very thoughtful of you.

Thank you Leah - This package really knocked my socks off!
