31  QUILTING / Quilting: Completed Projects / Rail Fence Lap Quilt on: July 10, 2010 04:10:36 PM
So, this here would actually be my fourth quilt...but I'm going to consider it my first "real" quilt.  I made my first quilt in the fall of 2008, mostly by hand.  I knew nothing about what I was doing to cut straight lines, sew proper seam allowances, or actual quilting.  That being said, it didn't turn out terribly bad.  The second was a donation for an auction, and the third was a mystery quilt project.

Well, I found a quilt shop near where I'm living and learned they offer classes...and decided I should take the beginning class to really learn all those small details I couldn't pick up from a book.  So glad I did!  The teacher is fantastic, and the ladies I had the class with were all great fun.  And now I have a quilt that I know I worked really hard on and completed very precisely Cheesy

And just a note, I have a fourth fabric for my border (I bought my fabric from the instructor, and she told me I could use a fourth on the top.  Score!).  So there's a close up of that one in there too.  Enough words, time for pictures Smiley

The best part?  The other ladies I took the class with and myself are taking another class together next month with the same instructor- this is addictive!! Smiley

Thanks for looking! Smiley

All of time and space, everything that ever happened or ever will....where do you want to start (cleaning)? Wink

Ok geekiness over Smiley  I started this dishcloth back in May when I signed up for the Dr Who swap rnd 3, thinking I could work the pattern out and then make one for my partner...only, it didn't happen that way.  I finally finished it a week or two ago.  I love it, but I wish the edges would lay a bit flatter (anyone have tips for that?).  I made the chart up by tracing the logo onto graph paper.  Smiley

Whoa, I am totally impressed with all these packages!!  Especially the goodies for kiddos...I'm jealous!  Wish my parents had done this when I was younger Wink

I got home from a fun day of adventure yesterday and there was a box sitting on the stairs for me! :O!  It was a lovely way to end a Friday Smiley  So, first up, the group shot!

You can see the two fabulous Imperial pillowcases, a fantastic photo frame, a pile of fun magnets, and some yarn Smiley

Then

the wonderful picture frame!  I loooove this, the little pictures look like they could be mosaic tiles!  I'm going to have to get an awesome picture with somebody at CV to put in there Cheesy  And in the middle of the frame is a closer shot of the magnets- I think Darth Maul and the lightsaber fight are my favorites Smiley

And finally

A close up of the Death Star and TIE fighter pillowcases Smiley  And the yarn again.  And some tea Cheesy  I cannot tell you how good that yarn smells right now after being sent in the box with the tea Cheesy Cheesy

Thanks for such a fun package Chelsea K!  I hope you enjoy yours Cheesy

Sorry I've dropped off the face of the planet!  Now that it's summer, life has (quite counterintuitively) gotten more hectic.  But I have some things planned out, and now that my quilt class is done and I don't need my machine packed up, I can get going on some things Smiley

Ahhh the crochet angel and the journal are both awesome!!  RikaHeart, I love the Dr's golf outfit Cheesy

OKIES photos!!  I received my package from our fearless leader, Whistley, last night.  Seriously, I started bouncing around the house as I was opening it (my sister can vouch for this, I dragged her in to show stuff off:)).  I saw my box on the counter when I got home from work last night and kidnapped it and walked around the house hugging it until I had a chance to open it up.  Cheesy  (Mom saw it and said "Box from one of your crafty friends?"  Dr Who stuff "Uh-oh" XD)  And when I did open it, I saw....THIS!  :O!

EEEEEE I have a bag that's going to turn into an angel!!  The text is the "Don't Blink" instructions.  The back has a picture with the Dr on the computer, the graffiti-d wall, and Angel Bob (heee what looks like him anyway) with 'Don't Turn Around...'.

Under that was the cutest packaging idea ever (in mini form, click to see larger Smiley)

"It's bigger on the inside" and

Geronimo!

The bag bigger-on-the-inside contained:

A snap wallet in pinstripe material with TARDIS-innard insides!  And a really cute appliqued TARDIS on the other side (Sorry I was way too excited to get detailed pictures... Cool).  It contains some GORGEOUS stitch markers with all 3 Doctors, the TARDIS, and an angel.  There's also a scrabble tile TARDIS pendant (which I plan to wear pretty much....forever!  It got broken in today Smiley).  The wallet and insides came with...

My own ship?!  What could this be??...

It looks quite promising so far, with lots of pictures and pockets!....(BTW the text is the text from the Family of Blood/Human Nature- he's like fire and ice and rage...).  Could it be....

A TARDIS sewing kit/book/envelope of AWESOME!  There's a picture of Nine on the underside of that left flap, which is a few pages of felt for needles/pins...lots and lots of pockets....the obligatory banana Cheesy for stabbing, and even MORE pockets!  I do love pockets.  Especially Time Lord ones.  And there's even scissors!!  The ribbon ties in just the right spot to hold them in Smiley

And finally....from the Geronimo! bag...comes a hero for our time.....

ELEVEN IN TINY HUGGABLE FORM!!!!  Isn't he just the cutest?!  His hair is so perfect...his clothes even velcro down!!!  Here's a shot of him guarding my sewing machine Smiley

Smiley Smiley  I was starting to think he was going to be my doctor, and as soon as he emerged from that cake, it was decided.  So it was lovely to find him hiding in my box!  I sent a picture to my former roomie, who's also a fan, and she said "Cute!  When you get the real one, will you share?".  NO Wink

And the best best best part about all of this?  It came two days before I take my first quilting class (which starts in about 9.5 hours now), and it's full of crafty goodness for crafting!!  The snap wallet is already holding supplies, and the TARDIS sewing caddy is waiting to be put to good use.  It's just as though Whistley is psychic Smiley

THANK YOU WHISTLEY!!!  YOU ARE THE BEST!!!  REALLY, REALLY FANTASTIC!!!  And you're a totally epic organizer too Wink  THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!
PS Geronimo! Smiley
