31  CRAFTING FOR GOOD AND NOT EVIL / Crafty Charitable/Social Causes / My dream for love and peace on: July 02, 2005 09:54:25 AM
hello crafting geniuses!!!
I havent read the whole board here- i admit right now- and this may end up sounding super redundant, but I this is my first attempt of combining the idea of charity- and - crafts...
I am gonna share a dream with you first...
I am an artist. And am starting to do this full time- not quite there for an income- persay- but am getting there- small steps..
my dream , my dream is to have money to go to thrid world countries, and teach/lead art classes to children all about the power of dream and imagination,.. does this sound super unrealistic? maybe-- but its my dream!
i also dream of adopting all the millions of children and babies around the world and give them the love they need and deserve!!! (okay- i admit- i just watched hotel rwanda- and i was a mess!! sobbing!!!) anyhoo- this has made me want to fufill this dream even more....
so this is where i am asking for your ideas, leads and feedback... I am obviously not able to go travelling at the moment..(drowning in bills! ha!) BUT want to start doing research, and see if this is viable. AND in the meantime, stretch my limited crafty/arty abilities to do something for those beautiful babies all over the world.
i was thinking stuffed animals/creatures.. cant crochet, cant knit, and sewing is LIMITED! okay- i thik i have talked myself into a corner here--will stop typing and see what all you beautiful crafters have to say..
THANK YOU!!!!!!! Grin
32  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Weddings and Bridal Showers / Bridesmaid in Vegas Wedding needs help on gift!! on: May 05, 2005 05:57:58 PM
Okay so i have to go to Vegas in August for my long time friends wedding. I am a bridesmaid.... I need ideas for a good gift.
Here's the deal. We've known each other forever but dont often see each other. Its good that we can pick up where we last left...but as for her man. i haven't a clue who he is (even if they've been together for 7 years..) not that it matters, I am aiming the gift more towards my friend rather than the both of them. I am lost as to what her specific interests lie, except her interest in Buddhism.
Secondly, I do art. but that's vague and i am not even sure where to go with that one. she likes what i do, but i guess what i want is something that's really for her. something thats going to say ' i got that from my friend for my wedding in Vegas.'
Otherwise, i havent a clue. Obviously making something works for me more because i am busy saving up money for Vegas. heh.
Anyone have any brilliant ideas?
Wow, spending just a few minutes on this wedding thread, and now i wanna have one! HAHA! thats insane for me to say!!! gotta get outta here..
hope someone can help me.
thank you in advance.
33  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Misc. Gift Idea Brain Blockage / Desperate arty-crafty needs help for taurus boyfriend!!! on: April 06, 2005 10:27:13 AM
Hello wonderful creative peeps-
My boyfriend is having his 47th birthday at the end of this month (april) and I am SCREWED! I have recently made the hard decision to make my dream of being a full time arty-crafty person happen. Since this is a huge sacrifice, and well, tough as hell, i am super broke and indebted to my lovely sweet man. He is the only reason i am able to do this. He is my rock and support. He was supposed to go to France with his parents this month and is-obviously with me being a bit of a burden, - he is not going.

SO what the *%#!!! I have to make/create something for him and i would like it to be really special (as with everything-it seems! ha) PLUS as i said- i'm BROKE! ack! this is a tough one and i am putting it out to all of you too- because i need the brainpower of intelligent creatives like yourselves.
I have an assortment of art and craft supplies. just havent a clue where to start.
...just tried to make my own 'homemade felt' with a couple of sweaters he accidentally shrunk. (the habits of the long-time bachelor! lol!)
Cant do any major sewing plans as my sewing machine is only 6 inches big! lol...
He likes to fish, the outdoors, etc,
really good photographer... quiet, half-french, practical, hard working... sweet..
and i am LOST!
.....please..help me...!!!

thank you in advance- Smiley
34  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Misc. Gift Idea Brain Blockage / my old man and no time on: December 07, 2004 11:43:56 AM
hey y'all-
firstly--i must say that it is so very refreshing that i have found this website full of very cool crafters. i must say i am hooked to this site.
my problem is just as many of the other peeps here. no money, little time and no ideas for gifts for the peeps i love.
here goes:
i have an older boyfriend in his 40's who is the hardest person i can think of for a crafty based gift. hes into fishing, hunting, the outdoors in general. he is such a sweet guy and i want to wow him with my creative genius. i was thinking of a picnic backpak set with a few add ons, but that fell thru when i realised he has tons of camp gear already. .... what to do?Huh

my mum is pretty simple. being the crafting goddess she is. she makes these awesome handbags...but my trouble is whatever i make for her is going to be juvenille compared to what she would make....shes the artsy-est mum around.

the old mans parents: my boyfriends parents are classic. in their 70's, have everything already....was thinking of foodie items , but that seems like a waste seeing as mum is cooking and baking. i really want to wow them and be original and that is the test...
(i cannot knit or crochet or anything)

and all thats left are a few little treats i would like to send thru the mail to my friends and family. i was thinking of little pouches of something (i can zip off the pouches quickly outta felt and stuff.) but what to put in them....
i know all you creative geniuses will be able to assist in my brain blockage.
oh! i should also add that my b/f used to play the bass for 30 odd years, and he sold it --wah-- he has never played for me and i constantly mention how i want him to pick it up again....maybe i could incorporate that into his gift??? i dunno...too much thinking i guess.
