1  Re: feltalong #12 wet felted vessel 2007 in Felting: Completed Projects by lexis on: May 31, 2007 03:22:20 PM
pure awesomeness.  Grin

alatheia, I really like how you choose to use a glass vase to felt over top. That is another great way to create a (more functional) vase and play with shape, I love the colours you've chosen. I love bold colours like that.  Smiley

Vildhavre, you just keep getting more and more fun with this. yay. I have to agree with WIP's that this is very Much like spring to me. Lovely composition.  Smiley
Are you keeping your colours very spearate throughout your layers? Or are you using all your colours in each layer? If you use very different colours in each layer, or section, you might have an easier time keeping the colours separate? The wool WILL blend no matter what, but, white or light coloured wools will be more obvious to the eye.
Try 2 very contrasting colours 2 layers on for the interior, and 2 for the exterior and see if that works?

Okay, I've loaded my pics and I can't figure out how to get the pics from flickr here, I dont even know if you can so links (snore) again. sorry.  Undecided

thanks so much for taking the time to look tho. Smiley

2  Wooly Booly's - felt and wool plushies in Felting: Completed Projects by lexis on: February 06, 2007 09:07:05 AM
Hi everyone- heeheehee. I made my first felt plushies! yay! lots of fun- I wanna make more.
Made out of some scrap wool felt, gorgeous (vintage) wool tweed, leather ears, embroidered faces with (vintage) buttons,
stuffed with scrap wool, felt, and lavender buds (so they smell like lavender!)
okay Gracie -I promise I'm getting there..They are relevant.....heehee...

AND Needle felted toes, bellies, tails and hair!! Grin
Weeeeeeee!!! I call them Wooly Booly's (If you can believe that that was the classic song playing on my stereo just as I was trying to think of a name! how fortunate!hahah!)

They are brother and sister. Twins separated at birth. Brother Booly (on the left) was raised in Jamaica and Sister Booly grew up to be a dance star in France.

Check out more pics in my flickr photos. http://www.flickr.com/photos/tanisalexis/
I hope you like 'em as much as I do. I dont know if I wanna sell these babies- They might just stay here and keep me company.  Cheesy Thanks so much for looking.

4  Felt felt felt- ! New pics on page 2 in Felting: Completed Projects by lexis on: January 25, 2007 09:26:32 AM
Hi everyone- Been awhile since I posted anything new- so I got off my lazy bum and uploaded some new pics. It was a bonus because it was sunny yesterday!  Grin

Been ordering lots of new fibres for some big consignment orders I am filling and hope this will also go to some classes I'll be teaching here in Vancouver in March and April too. I can't wait- I am pretty excited...but then again- that could be nerves. hahahaha!

So, some fibre 'porn'  Wink for you to look at- I got a gorgeous hand-dyed lot from feltstudiouk, ah-! I am her BIGGEST fan!  Grin

and a shipment from Dreamspin Fibres in Ontario-

SLURP!!!! I LOVE it all- I grabbed lots of superfine merino-18.5 microns!! it feels just like clouds! I can't wait to see what it looks like felted. Like a suede finish they say.  Grin
The turquiose/brown/black in the bottom left corner is dyed silk laps. Never used them before but should be TONS of fun in Wet Felt.

and I did make something for myself- FINALLY! lol. Been so busy around here- I needed to stop. and take care of my needs.  Wink Cold here on the water in January, so I made a felted sash- or belt tie. I can wear it over jeans/pants and tie it on my hip. Super cosy and warm.
For the tie, I used my favourite handspun that I've managed to ply so far. So I am happy, and will probably make more in February- after the storm clears in my inbox.  Wink
Hope you like-I saved some of my fave colourway from feltstudiouk for this project. Of course!  Grin

5  Re: January 07 felt a long-Gallery in Felting: Completed Projects by lexis on: January 10, 2007 10:17:43 AM
hello- finished a bunch of flowers including Jane's.  Smiley Snowing -again!- here on the 'mild' West Coast- so it's a good day to stay inside and get warm with my wool. haha

I loaded about 9 large pics onto my flickr acct. here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/tanisalexis/

and a couple o' smaller photos of them for you here:

I have to say the top one is my fave. Gorgeous ivory wensleydale top from the sweet teamwang. xo
Not often enough that I get to play with this kind of colour palette- so it was really surprising and fun. Excuse the felting needle jabbed into the bottom one- it's to keep it from rolling away.  Cheesy

these were fun too. thinking really cool on the groomsmen- lol- as they're mostly browns and burgandy. Smiley well-anyways, I hope you like them.  Kiss
Jane- When I get more pinbacks- I can attach those to the back or- whatever you think you need to do to them before I ship out. let me know.  Wink

6  felted sashes n' scarves! More links on pg2 --and 3!!!! in Felting: Completed Projects by lexis on: October 31, 2006 04:04:58 PM
It's been awhile since I posted anything, and I have been really inspired by the colder temperatures again. Hmm. it will almost be a year since I picked up my first felting project soon...and I am still really intrigued by the seemingly limitlessness (is that even a word?oh well) of fibre as a medium. I keep getting so inspired by all of you and I want to say thank you for the encouragement, the support, the inspiration, choke! gawsh! I'm getting softy.  Grin
Happy Halloween everyone. Waiting for sunset to turn off all my lights and get scared in the dark. haha. boo!

here's the latest 'one-off' I was inspired to try to combine yarn with blobs of felt. and ended up with a long twisty neck tie, sash thingie. I like versatility. would you guys wear this? or is it too ary farty? I'm not sure. It does look like I am taking it all too seriously. haha

And this is what I've felted in the last 2 days. sorry the pics are so small. It's that dino camera of mine again.  Tongue
A combo of FABULOUS dyed roving from the gorgeous Caedara and a mix of other rovings.. the left side of the pics is the fronts and the right side is the backside of them. I think I may either turn them into neck collar things/small scarves, (so warm and cozy) or add ribbons or yarn and make sorta hip sash things.
Ack! I keep saying 'things' to describe.. help me out, what do you think?
have a spooky eve tonite.  Wink

7  Re: Ongoing Fibre/Fiber Swap - Amended in ARCHIVE OF SWAPS THAT ARE TOTALLY FINISHED by lexis on: October 15, 2006 04:36:40 PM
Excellent! Thanks EW Wink I'll take it.
Well then, I better post my stash.
Just so you guys know- I don't have a scale, so what I did was compare all the bags I put together to a pre-weighed bag. If anything - the weights are guesses, estimates and probably more generous lots because of that.  Undecided Smiley hope no one minds...

#2 50g of Sprinkle-dyed Romney locks. I just got this and it looks like lots fun. Purples, blues, greens... lovely.
#3 100g Natural light brown Merino Sliver.
#4 50 g mixed bag Includes: (All Natural colours) flax top, grey botany, alpaca, baby alpaca, silk noil, cotton and 2 brown wool yarns.
#5 CLAIMED50g mixed bag Includes: Aubergine alpaca, Orange/yellow/green merino top, White merino Sliver, Sprinkle Dyed Mohair, Yellow Merino, Peach Merino

Hi felters-

As the mega-craft queen herself- she became quickly addicted. Grin  I haven't had a chance to see any of her big creations since we were together this past spring, so I am absolutely floored and SO PROUD of my Mums quick learning, and amazing creative penache.
These are some of the things she's sent to me to add to or collaborate with. fun!  Grin

10  Felted Flowers & birds- NEW pics on PAGE 2!! in Felting: Completed Projects by lexis on: August 04, 2006 10:57:52 AM
Heyhey - here's photos of my latest batch of felted friends. I mentioned on another thread that I was working on incorporating feathers into needle felting and I've achieved success!  Smiley Most of the flowers will become pins, but I also have another secret idea for them as well. The bird also has feathers and I've since added wensleydale curls to its tail and its looking good. Also notice the amazing multi-colours of roving in some of the flowers thanks to the very amazing and talented Caedara and her very special order of hand-dyed wool for me.  Kiss
Hope you like-even though this ancient digital camera is of NO use for a decent photo... remind me to ask santa for a really good digital camera for xmas.  Tongue  Grin in no particular order:
