11  My first doll!! in Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects by envirocraft on: May 28, 2010 12:31:12 PM
I started making a doll for a little girl I know who's turning 2 soon, but it wasn't really a 2 year old type doll... and I fell in love with her, so she's mine now. lol

She's about 9.5 inches tall, and I looked at a basic rag doll pattern, but it wasn't too helpful.  lol

I forgot to take a pic of her hair, but I threaded through a heck of a lot of yarn!!!

I apologize for her crappy dress.  I threw it together really quick so that I couldn't be charged will doll-porn!!!  I plan to make her lovely things in the future!

12  Plarn Bag in Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: Reconstructed by envirocraft on: May 28, 2010 11:59:04 AM
I know this isn't anything new or exciting, but this is my first plarn bag and first time working with plarn.

I made it based loosely on this pattern: http://www.myrecycledbags.com/2007/12/02/recycled-grocery-tote-bag/

Thanks for looking. Smiley

14  Sugar Lip Scrub *with tutorial* in Bath and Beauty: Completed Projects by envirocraft on: May 26, 2010 03:14:42 PM
Alright, so I wasn't all that interested in lip scrubs until I had a conversation with my sister. As usual, we were discussing Lush products (we both used to work there at different stores in different cities!) and the topic of lip scrubs came up. They sell these: http://www.lush.ca/shop/products/face/lip-balms-and-scrubs/mint-julip

I wouldn't pay $9 for them, but I'm cheap like that. Not to mention the idea of scrubbing my lips isn't that high on my priority list!

But after talking about it with my sister so much, I thought I'd give it a try. It turned out pretty well!

If you want to try your hand at it, here's what I did:

white sugar
apricot kernel oil
pure vanilla extract
peppermint essential oil

You could always make substitutions, this is just what I did.  If you'd rather use olive oil, try it.  If you don't have peppermint oil, try another essential oil.  Use what you have.  That's what I did. Smiley

Alright, now here are my extremely precise measurements and directions (har har har):

1. Put about 1/8 - 1/4 of a cup of sugar in a small bowl

2. Add a "squirt" or "drizzle" of honey

3. Add ~3 drops of peppermint oil

4. Pour in some oil... I probably used about 2 tsp.

5. Splash a little bit of vanilla in6. Mix it up really well!!

To use:Wet lips with water and rub a pea sized amount on lip. Rub rub rub!! (gently!) The longer you scrub the smoother your lips will be. Don't press too hard though.

I like to finish up with my Rocky Mountain Soap Company peppermint lip butter!

And because I know you're probably curious, it didn't taste half bad either!!

If you find that the sugar is too rough for your lips, there's two things you can do.

 1) with some water, rub your scrub between your fingers before putting in your lips. This will dissolve the sugar a bit and smooth out the edges. This works for commercial scrubs (salt and sugar) too.

2) Next time you make the scrub, through your sugar in the blender or food processor first to make it finer.

I'll have to see how well this keeps, honey is a natural preservative, so we'll see how it goes!!

I think next time I'm going to try cinnamon and clove with maybe a hint of orange! Or maybe a citrus blend of lime, lemon, and orange... oh the possibilities!!!

15  Make Up Remover pads in Bath and Beauty: Completed Projects by envirocraft on: May 25, 2010 08:14:28 PM
I was so inspired by these here https://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=347256.0   so I had to try and make some of my own.

I use one of these pads every day.  Even though they're fair trade organic cotton they still create waste!

Mine aren't quite as cute and uniform, but i just used up the scraps from the doll rag quilt I made a while ago.

Thanks for looking!

I was bored today so i pulled out the WIP box...

I got item #2 crossed off my list (finally!!)  I made market bags from cat and cow material that I didn't know what else to do with it.

I also found the bottoms of yoga pants I'd hemmed a long time ago, saving them to make headbands out of, and i finally did that too!!  All I had to do was sew them smaller!

Now I have 4 new headbands. I might add embellishments later, but I usually wear them at the gym, so maybe not!

17  Market Bags in Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General by envirocraft on: May 24, 2010 04:50:40 PM
I dragged this out of my WIP box.  It had gone in here in the first place because I couldn't figure out how to line up the cows so they turned out being the right side up and then I didn't want to rip it all apart, so in the box it went. lol

I figured it out on the second try so here they are:

My favorite!!

Here's a close up of the cow on the handle:

And a cat bag!

Close up of the kitty on the bed:

This was all fabric that was given to me.  I had no clue what to do with it, but I really like how it turned out!

In total I now have 3 cow bags and 2 cat bags (you know you're addicted to yoga when.... lol)

Thanks for looking! C&C appreciated!

20  Mini Shelf Decor in Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: General by envirocraft on: May 14, 2010 11:14:42 AM
I'm in the process of decorating my room, and I had this little picture frame and shelf set that I didn't know what to do with the shelves. I made mini decor!!!

I started out with this white butcher twine, and didn't like the color.

So I dyed it with a coffee and tea mixture. I love how it turned out because the color wasn't even but BEAUTIFUL!!

I used a hot glue gun to glue it to a Caltrate bottle to make a mini vase. I threw some green stuff in there from my craft stash, and I love love love it!

I also made some mini decorative balls by gluing twine to tiny styrofoam balls! They're in my hand so that you get an idea of the size!

Here's the total effect. I might still try to find something for the balls to go in, right now they're on a small candle holder.

And for size and effect, a shot of them with the centre picture frame. The picture of my sister and me is an 8x10.

Thanks for looking, I had fun! C&C welcome!
