11  Monsters & One BFF Present! (picture chubby) in Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects by BrooklynMermaid on: April 25, 2010 01:02:43 PM
So I got the itch a couple weeks ago to make some monsters.  I've since made another (a cousin!) but Holly's hiding right now.  She's understuffed so she wants to wait.  I'll add her later.  I also made them little siblings but they were iding too!  Micro-Monster the youngest is about the length of my thumb and Mini-Monster is a shorter rectangle.

The whole group:

The monster siblings Big Monster (the big sister) & Little Monster (the little brother):

Big Monster (sorry it's blurry!):

Little Monster:

The present:
I made my bff Megan a little pink and black buddy because she loves all things pink and black and I had the arm warmer lying around.  The next day I made another one for another friend who totally adored Megan's!

The bow is just some pink ribbon from some old pj pants and the face is silver sharpie.

The picture's too blurry to see but there's a heart drawn on!

12  Some t-shirt and sweatshirt recons in Clothing: Completed Projects: Reconstructed by BrooklynMermaid on: April 25, 2010 12:48:52 PM
It's rainy and cold and I have a touch of SAD so I stay inside and sew and cut on days like this.  I've been on a recon binge lately so I did more.

The first is a sweatshirt I found 4 years ago at my nerd camp.  I posted it on the lost & found board but no one claimed it so at the end of our session I got to take it home.  I still feel kinda bad that someone lost their sweatshirt but it was serendipitous for me since it fits perfectly.  But it's summer.  Not hoodie weather at all!  So I went to my closet and pulled out this old sweatshirt I never wear anymore and cut off the sleeves.  Then I thought "Hmm, what can I do to make this even cooler?Huh"  and I got it!  An old pajama tank top I had in 8th grade with a Groovy Fish!  So I cut it out and appliqued it on.  Thanks for sticking with me through all that, here are the pictures!

Second, my Rolling Stones tee.  This one was a gift from a friend who could no longer wear it, so I didn't want to do too much.  I definitely didn't want to touch the tongue.  So I cut out the neck, and cut more, and cut again, until it could be worn multiple ways.  Off one shoulder, off both shoulders, on both shoulders, sleeves rolled up, and sleeves tied (which I didn't get a picture of).  I also have A LOT of leftover fabric so I may resize it later.

How much extra fabric!

Third, my Rockin Snoopy shirt!  This one I've also had forever and decided to cut out the neck and remove the too tight sleeves, and then make it one shouldered!  Yay!
(sorry for the awful picture, it did NOT wanna photograph)

13  Day of Silence Buddies! in Crafty Charitable/Social Causes by BrooklynMermaid on: April 14, 2010 03:34:15 PM
Day of Silence:
The National Day of Silence brings attention to anti-LGBT name-calling, bullying and harassment in schools. Each year the event has grown, and now hundreds of thousands of students participate to encourage schools and classmates to address the problem of anti-LGBT behavior. Founded in 1996, the Day of Silence has become the largest single student-led action towards creating safer schools for all, regardless of sexual orientation, gender identity or gender expression.

I made a bunch of these little guys for myself, teachers who helped organize and other student organizers.  We just had our last organizing meeting today so I gave them to everyone.  I've had mine on my desk all week and gotten so many questions and comments.

They're made out of a couple of old shirts that didn't fit right and filled with poly-fill.  The faces are sharpied on.  On the back they each have the date for this year written on.  I also personalized one for a teacher that we refer to as our "Mama Bear" and am personalizing one for a friend to look like her with her tattoo and piercing.  I'll post a picture when I'm done.

This is most of them together on my bed; ignore the mess, I'm in the process of packing for college.

Here they all are in their bag that I brought them to school in.  Kindly ignore my weird toes.

This one's mine.  The only one with lips.

14  Mad Hatter Sweatshirt!! in Other Image Reproduction Techniques: Completed Projects by BrooklynMermaid on: April 05, 2010 11:22:29 AM
This has taken me a month and a day to upload but here it is.

I'm a huge Alice in Wonderland fan, ever since I can remember I have been.  And so for the new movie I made myself a new Mad Hatter sweatshirt.  I took an old sweatshirt and some iron on transfers and voila!

P.S. I hope this is the right place to post this, I've never posted before, only lurked so links it is!
