1  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / knitted mole on: March 09, 2009 07:28:51 AM
Meet Gilbert the mole.

He's quite sausagey looking and I know he's not amazing, but he's the first thing like this I've made, so I'm pleased with him none the less.

Based on this pattern, but I made a few changes and didn't felt him.

2  COOKING / Vegetarian / Vegan / Rose Chocolate Chip Cupcakes on: March 09, 2009 07:22:42 AM

190g flour
200g sugar
chocolate chips
baking powder
a splash of vinegar
80ml oil
235ml vanilla soy milk

Mix the dry ingredients together, then the wet, and combine the two.

Vegan margarine, icing sugar, a drop of red food colouring and lots of rose syrup for the icing.

Decorated with chocolate chips and dried rosebuds.

3  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Valentine's Day / decoupage lovebirds ornament on: February 16, 2009 07:40:48 AM
This is my first decoupage project - a heart shaped lovebirds ornament.

4  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / hairbow made from recycled money on: January 30, 2009 02:53:18 AM

I made this hair bow from an old Polish banknote, lacquered.

I feel like a bit of a chump, though - when I made this I was convinced that Poland used the Euro now and that the currency was obsolete, so the money was worthless... but, as was pointed out here, I was wrong!

I'm still really pleased with hairbow - I think it's really pretty, but I also think it's kind of offensive. I struggle and I know how much of a difference 1 or 2 can make, and I hate it when people don't appreciate that, so it feels a bit hypocritical wearing money in my hair, but ahh well. What's done is done...!

5  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / brooches made from old/foreign coins on: January 23, 2009 04:57:02 PM
On one of the many occassions I've been deserate for cash recently, I gathered up my childhood coin collection and took it to a shop near me that will value old coins for free, and buy them if they're worth anything... I discovered that their only value is their prettiness!

Now that I know for sure I won't be kicking myself in future for ruining priceless antique coins with cement glue, I thought why not make some of them into brooches so they can see a bit more of the world, instead of gathering dust in a corner!

I'm sorry that the pictures dont show the details of the coins very well - I assure you, they're really beautiful!

My favourite isn't in the picture, because I gave it to a friend. It was a lovely shiny old Deutschmark - and I'm pleased to say that it has already survived a journey through the washing machine!

6  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: General / Anti-Valentine's Day tshirt on: January 20, 2009 12:28:38 PM
This time six years ago, when we were bitter and angry fourteen year olds, my friend and I decided we'd show the world our contempt for its sickly sweet Valentine's Day nonense by making Anti-Valentine's Day tshirts.

The picture was taken June 2003, but the tshirt still fits (just)!

7  COOKING / Vegetarian / Vegan / vanilla cocoa caramel cookies on: January 19, 2009 03:33:34 PM

I was clearing out my baking cupboard today, so of course I had to bake something to reward all that hard work!

I only had random supplies left, so I made up these Vanilla Cocoa Caramel Cookies with 2 cups wholemeal spelt flour, a tablespoon of baking powder, 1 cup demerara sugar, a half cup of sunflower oil and a quarter cup of water, as well as three caps of vanilla essence and some cocoa nibs - baked at 180C for 10 minutes.

Whilst they were baking, I made vanilla caramel (sugar, water and vanilla essence) to drizzle over the top of the cookies.

Yum yum!
8  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / stegosaurus hats for babies on: January 17, 2009 04:10:13 PM
I made four stegosaurus hats in four days, and used up some of my vast collection of green wool, at last.

I looked at a few different hat patterns and combined them to make something I liked. The plates are done with sawtooth stitch, which I learnt how to do from here.

My first ever hat!

Second attempt. This is much greener in real life.

Number three. Again, this is much greener in real life.

Number four.

What do you think?
9  TOYS, DOLLS AND PLAYTHINGS / Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects / rock n roll skull rag dolls on: January 17, 2009 04:03:11 PM
I made these skulls from a bag that had been ripped, an old white bedsheet for the details, and stuffed them with scrap fabric.

10  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / deerly beloved... (coin purse) on: December 09, 2008 01:43:41 PM
(Don't worry spelling fiends, it's a pun!)

I made this coin purse from felt for my partner's mum for Christmas.
