31  MORE ART, LESS CRAFT / More Art, Less Craft: Completed Works / Re: Lady Gaga Portrait on: April 13, 2010 01:54:47 PM
Im not a Gaga fan but I think you did a great job on the picture! Im sure the girl who is a Gaga fan will love it! I can only draw things or animals, not people so I love to see other people draw people!
32  QUILTING / Quilting: Completed Projects / Re: My second baby quilt. (w/ pics) on: April 13, 2010 04:05:23 AM
I CHERISH the handmade afghan and quilt that was given to me when I had my first daughter and I think those are the best gifts to receive- you know theres lots of love there when you get it. I am surprised that you didn't even get a thank you. The quilt is lovely! Dont be discouraged!
33  QUILTING / Quilting: Completed Projects / Re: My first quilt! I can barely believe that I finished it! on: April 12, 2010 02:42:41 PM
I think it looks beautiful and I really like the idea of giving the rest of the detergent to the parents, that stuff can be expensive for new parents!

35  QUILTING / Quilting: Completed Projects / Re: My Easter table cloth. on: April 11, 2010 12:25:51 PM
It looks awesome! You could have it double as a quilt when its not being used on the table Wink I really like the square pattern. The next quilt I do will be with squares!
36  HOME SWEET HOME / Crafty Housewares: Discussion and Questions / help! How do I do this? on: March 31, 2010 05:51:28 AM
I want to give my daughter a place to sit and color and paint and do whatever her little heart desires ( she is two) so I got this awesome night stand from a friend that was throwing it out- its a perfect square table and just the right height. It has some damage on the top from water so I want to cover it with scrap book paper that I already have picked out. My question is how do I do this in a way that it will hold up to a two year old and also be sealed and protected from water and food or paint or whatever? Thanks!!~ Jeffsweetie

This is beautiful! My favorite types of quilts are the ones where the fabrics look like they are random. Thanks for sharing!
38  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Party Planning / Re: Birthday Party ideas for a 2 year old??? on: March 04, 2010 12:17:37 PM
I've recommended it like every other time, but I really like tea parties for girls.  I think you could make it appropriate for your daughter by having more traditional party games with tea themes, like pin the tea bag in the pot and a tea bag "pinata" (a paper sack folded over and stapled).  Kids like eating and playing simple games, but I've found that just a couple structured activities and a lot of free play is best for the younger kids.  If you're doing cupcakes I bet you can arrange them in a shape of a teapot too.  That'd be really cute.  And the kids could have juice instead of tea, of course.

I love that idea too, but I dont have any of that type of stuff and would need to buy all of it ahead of time. I also think that would be really neat for an older girl to get all girly and dressed up with her friends. I can see it now!
39  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Party Planning / Re: Birthday Party ideas for a 2 year old??? on: March 04, 2010 12:15:15 PM
I'm planning a hello kitty birthday party for my daughter who will be two in only 6 days.  She doesn't watch TV either, but she loves cats.  I chose hello kitty for a couple reasons 1) her love of cats, 2) all hello kitty stuff is girly and cute, 3) I dont like princess theme stuff, and 4) Hello kitty stuff is widely available online.   We are having the party on the 20th.  The attendees will be ages 2 - 10, but I've found girls of all ages love hello kitty.

I found tons of free printables on the sanrio.com page.  There are lots of hello kitty fan pages as well. I've printed out free coloring sheets, paper dolls, stationary sets, calendars and images.  I'm making felt goodie bags with hello kitty on the front.  (these are really simple ones with ribbon handles)

So far I'm planning on..
- everything hot pink and apple green
- a cupcake stand with store bought cupcakes with hello kitty picks that I make using scrapbook paper and my computer printer.  I'm making the stand as well out of free stuff. I may splurge and order cupcake rings from Amazon.. they are only $3/doz.
- I'm decorating a large wall in the entry with pictures of her throughout the year so you can see how much she has changed. I've got one for each month. The plan is to mount each picture on foam board.  I'm also going to print out some more hello kitty images and mount those on foam board to stick on the wall to make it a little more festive.
- A banner to go on the picture wall.  I have an awesome color laser printer that does print shop quality... so I've made an 11x17 banner
- Another pendant style banner (for the party area)-- the ones you typically see for sale in party shops.. just going to make my own with craft paper, my printer, cardboard from cereal boxes and satin ribbon
- hot pink and apple green colored crystal lite
- plain hot pink and apple green colored plates, napkins, forks, spoons (not buying expensive pre-printed stuff, it just doesn't match my color theme)
- table centerpieces - I bought some fountain style centerpieces from the dollar tree, which have a hotpink and green base. I'm removing the other colors and printing some coordinating hello kitty things to staple on it.  I may do hot pink and apple green flowers on one of the tables.
- lots of balloons in hot pink/green
- those huge tissue paper pom pom flowers to hang from cieling, might put some on "stems"
- paper lanterns in coordinating colors (you can make your own, just google it)
- lots of hot pink tule to use for decorating -- tie to the backs of chairs, decorate her high chair, etc.. Last year I made a high chair cover to coordinate with her party stuff. If I have time I may do that this year.
- Breakfast buffet... fresh fruit, yogurt, donuts, breakfast tacos, etc.. I'm delegating this task to my husband!  ha!
- white chocolate covered oreos done in cookie mold (thinking about coloring the white chocolate to match my color scheme
- Custom water bottle labels.  Just buy regular water bottles and print your own labels, stick them on with clear packaging tape.
- Juice boxes in hot pink and apple green colors

Birthday girl will also have a coordinating hello kitty outfit with t-shirt, felt kitty bow, hot pink tutu and hot pink ballet flats Smiley

For entertainment, I'm still working on that. I think we may play a game of pin the bow on hello kitty. I'm also thinking about getting a pinata.  We may get one of those blow up jumping things, just need to see how many rsvps we get.

Goodie bags for kids:
boys - will get sponge bob stuff... my son picked that out.
girls will get..
Favors found on $1 rack at JoAnn's - pencil boxes, stamps, stacking pencils
Dollar tree finds - hot pink / apple green plastic jewelry
Stationary set - I made these in power point and printed them out, I also made a cute folder for them to fit it all in... matching envelopes at hobby lobby.
Custom printed color book (made by me) They will be standard size paper folded in half.
   Custom blank notebook
Purse size calendar printed from sanrio.com (I have my own binding machine... I know I'm spoiled Smiley
   Felt hello kitty bag
Thinking about making hello kitty felt stuffies.. there are patterns online.

Lastly want to mention most of my inspiration is from hostessblog.com and http://www.accenttheparty.com/party-blog?category=1

Hope you have a crafty and fun party!! Smiley

Wow! Thats a lot of really great information! I think I like the idea of apple green and hot pink. Im slacking pretty bad. I'm also having her birthday party on the 20th and I need to get going planning and buying stuff. So far all I came up with is that we are going to do a Cupcake station and let the kids decorate their own cupcakes and I made my daughter the cutest apron for her to wear while she is doing that! Thanks everyone for the ideas!!! Since we are in Italy, the Ren fair would be a good idea for when she is older because there is lots of that type of stuff here. Maybe that would even be fun to do for an adult birthday celebration! I would love to hang paper lanterns from the ceiling. That would be really nice. Now you have my brain going!!! ~ Jeffsweetie

as soon as I take pictures I will post the apron I made!
40  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Party Planning / Birthday Party ideas for a 2 year old??? on: February 18, 2010 09:01:03 AM
Hi everyone! My oldest is turning two in March and I want to have a birthday party for her. So far I have NO ideas except that instead of a cake I want to make a cupcake cake. I am living in Italy so we dont really get to watch the kids shows that they have in the states, therefore my daughter doesnt really have a favorite character. I would like to do some sort of theme but I dont know where to begin! Id love any ideas on games and themes... there will be adults and kids from 1 year to 12 there. So it will have to be something everyone will enjoy. Thanks!
