11  HOME SWEET HOME / Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: General / Leaf Coasters, With Tutorial on: February 02, 2012 09:45:20 PM
I made these coasters for jemimah in the OWS78

I made these double-sided but you could make them single sided if you wanted to.

You'll need:
an outline of a leaf the size you want you coasters to be
sewing machine
Quilt basting spray / pins (optional)

I used green for my top layer & brown for the bottom layer. Firstly i put both felt colors together. (right side facing out, if it has an obvious right side). If you wanted to you could use quilt basting spray to stick them together so they don't move.
Pin your leaf outline to your felt & cut around the edge. Repeat for as many coasters as you are making.

Once they are cut out it is time to head to the sewing machine. I used green thread for my top thread & brown for my bobbin fill. Using straight stitch on your machine sew veins onto you leaf. Repeat with all coasters.

You could also hand stitch the veins but it would take a bit longer.
12  Craft Swaps / ARCHIVE OF SWAPS THAT ARE TOTALLY FINISHED / Aussie OWS Feb 2012 on: January 29, 2012 03:28:58 PM

Welcome to the Feb 2012 Aussie Ongoing Wish Swap!

This swap will open on February 1st and close on February 29th - Australian Time (Melb). If you would like to sign up please read all info and PM the organiser Skittlebub your questionnaire.

If you have participated in other ongoing swaps before, please ensure you read this information as you may find things a little different (but no different to the previous AOWS)

The following information has been based on / borrowed from the OWS

: This swap works as a chain. The first person will post a wish list containing both crafted items and supplies, another participant claims at least a medium item from their list and then posts their own list and so on.

: A medium item consists of a craft that takes the average crafter more than 2 hours to complete (not including drying/waiting time), or if sending supplies, AU$20-$30 of store bought items.

: Please include a minimum of 35 specific crafted items and 15 supplies in your list. To help the other participants it helps if you have a link to an image or tutorial of what you would like to receive. The more items you have in your wish list the faster you will get claimed.

Please organise your wish list into:
Craft Supplies
You may like to organise your crafted wished into subheadings such as Yarn/ Sewn/ Papercraft/ etc.

: Please include a short description of yourself at the beginning of your post and include any allergies or things you dont like (colours/patterns/etc.) to avoid any disappointments.

: If you have a pinterest or wist you can also include that if you are happy for someone to claim something from there, perhaps specifying the boards you want to be claimed from. Please specify if you are happy or not to receive a wisty/pinteresty surprise.

: Since we are only posting within Australia it is possible to send along food, baked goods and natural materials, so you may like to include those within your wish list.

: A note regarding extras: These accompany crafted items or craft supplies and do not count towards the medium portion of the swap.

: This is a high quality swap so please only make a claim if you know you can fulfil the wish to a high calibre as you would also like to receive.

: When you claim, at the beginning of your post please include the following information: How many claims you have made, how many claims are in transit and how many claims have been received by your partner. The format 2-0-1 will be ok.

: Please have your list ready before you make a claim to help the chain move along quickly.

: Please contact the person you have claimed ASAP to say Hello and ask for their postal address, that is your responsibility to organise.

: You may choose to not send your parcel via registered post, but understand that if it goes missing you will be required to re-send.

: You have 3 weeks to send your claim to allow people who need more time with their crafting. Once you have sent, please PM both organisers and the recipient the claim information (i.e. Oodelally ----> NatACT for ? , Due September 24)

: Please include the following in the subject of all communication to organiser Skittlebub:
AOWS Approval (when sending in your questionnaire)
AOWS Received
AOWS Question

: Please make finishing other swaps a priority before joining this swap.

: Please do not make a claim for this swap until you have been approved. As soon as you have been added to the list on the first page you can begin claiming and join in the fun

: This swap will last one month and the if all goes well will begin again at the start of March where you will need to submit another questionnaire. You may join in at any time during the month.

Regarding Feedback:
: There are some things that will land you with negative feedback, so please pay attention to the following information.
* You must send the medium item that you have claimed for, otherwise you will receive negative feedback.
* If you claim for a cotton hat then do not send a wool one or you will need to send again.
* Pay close attention to your partners allergies and wishes. If you send something that is on the list of allergies, or dislikes etc. you will be required to send again   We dont want any swappers get something that is clearly in their list of things they dont like and or have allergies of.....

: If everything goes successfully you will receive feedback once you have, sent, received and posted pictures for all of your claims
...Or if you have not posted pictures, up to 2 weeks after the swap has ended.

14  CITY GUIDES FOR CRAFTSTERS / AUSTRALIA / Glass Tiles & bails on: August 24, 2011 04:28:37 PM
Where is a good place to get glass tiles & bails in Australia? or is it cheaper to get them from overseas?
15  REUSING/RECYCLING/RECRAFTING / What the heck can I do with THIS? / Mircosuede on: July 19, 2011 10:44:27 PM
I got given a garbage bag full of microsuede off-cuts from an upholstery place (in 4-5 colors)
They are all fairly big usable pieces. I was going to re-cover my dining chairs with it but it wasn't quite wide enough (but then found more than enough of another upholstery fabric mixed in with it to be able to do my dining chairs)

So, what can I make with microsuede?
It's all chocolates, caramels, tans
16  CITY GUIDES FOR CRAFTSTERS / AUSTRALIA / Linoprinting & stamp carving supplies? on: July 19, 2011 03:23:53 PM
Does anyone know where to get linoprinting & stamp carving supplies (Spotlight has nothing)
I received a lino cutting tool with 2 blades in a swap & really want to give it a go but don't know where to get the supplies from.
17  SEWING IN GENERAL / Machine Embroidery: Discussion and Questions / Want to learn to digitize & don't know where to start on: June 23, 2011 04:35:18 PM
I'm wanting to learn to digitize my own designs, both drawings & from pictures/photos.

Can anyone recommend a program for beginners that is easy to learn and preferably doesn't cost much? I'm not overly computer minded. I tried Sophie Sews a while back & just got confused by it.

I have a Janome 350e

Thanks in Advance
18  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Completed Projects / Blue boxes & a dalek on: June 21, 2011 04:45:27 PM
I've been dying for jemimah to receive in the June birthday swap so I could post this.

Firstly her card, my first sketching/drawing

Then a TARDIS inspired shopping bag holder

A TARDIS stamp, my first attempt at stamp carving. I didn't have any stamp carving tools so I used a cuticle trimmer & a small screwdriver, which I would not recommend for anyone wanting to try stamp carving  Cheesy

Some TARDIS buttons, all a first attempt at fabric covered buttons, I drew the TARDIS (what's a plural of a TARDIS? Tardi?) with fabric pens & heat set them.

And there's also a TARDIS needle book. First time working with felt too.

20  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Discussion and Questions / Hanging hoops on walls? on: May 30, 2011 08:51:39 PM
I've tried do a search & can't find what I'm looking for.

How do you hang your hoops on the wall?
We live in a rental & we aren't allowed to put hooks or nails in the wall. I really want to put my hoops up but have no idea on what to do
