1  Re: Cat bed from a box and pillow! in Pet-Related Crafts: Completed Projects by desm88 on: May 24, 2011 03:27:42 PM
He arrived this morning! He stepped into his bed but so far he prefers the closet and under the human bed. Someday he`ll like it, I just know it

His name is Cosmos, and I feel the need to post pictures of him absolutely everywhere:

I have received a lovely broomstick lace kit from ArpilInAutumn.

First of all, the crazy box it came in:

Almost a metre long! And you`ll see why...

There's three balls of 100% cotton yarn (mmmmm... cotton), a large of amount of very pretty pink acrylic, a pre-started sample, some regular crochet hooks, a huge a$$ knitting needle, and one GIANT NEEDLE TO END ALL NEEDLES. It was actually hand made! I believe this needle, about 60cm long, was the reason for the long box.

A note pad to magnet on to my fridge, and some sticky notes. So cute!

Thank you for everything April! I look forward to finishing the sample and more Smiley

3  Cat bed from a box and pillow! in Pet-Related Crafts: Completed Projects by desm88 on: May 23, 2011 07:30:47 AM

We're getting a new kitty in a day or so, and I had a thought: what if he doesn't want to sleep on the human bed?
Better make a comfy alternative, stat!

So I got a cardboard box, a pillow, some fabric, a piece of soft faux fur, and my trusty spray glue. Then cat bed was born.

I hope he likes it! I'll see if I can post pictures later of his reactions Cheesy

I received from NotKnit!
What a beautiful bounty of beading loot indeed Smiley

First, there were a ton of beads, beading thread, bead needles, and even a cloth mat to put on my lap so the beads don't roll away. Also a fantastic beaded bracelet and some beaded tube beads!

Look at all those beads!! Shocked
They're all so pretty. I think these ones are my favorites so far:

Then I found a project case that held a ceramic bead tray

I'm really getting spoiled here  Grin

And to top it off, not one, not two, but FIVE books with beading instructions and patterns:

All I can say is WOW and THANK YOU. I'm excited to try out some beading with all these wonderful supplies!

I received my fabulous package from mermaidcafe!

First, some magnets for my no-longer-bare fridge:

They now hold various important items up on my fridge.
I especially like the glass one. It's a bit hard to tell from the photo but it says 'breathe' underneath. Always good advice Wink

When I first opened the package I saw this among the items:

and I was like, what's that? that looks like a lemon. Then I saw the top that must have come off in transit, and I was like, it is a lemon! So I performed magnosurgery and all was well in the land.

Next a fantastically wide PINK Cheesy scarf and a yarn end dish cloth. This proves mermaidcafe's mind reading abilities, as I am
a) always frustrated that scarves fall down from in front of my face,
b) disappointed that they are not pink enough, and
c) running out of dish cloths right now.

And the scarf has some serious coverage. I can actually use it to encase my entire head in warmth:

For the recipes, not only did I get a couple delicious looking pieces from mermaid, she also sent me an entire book on tofu:

How did you know that last time I went shopping, I saw the tofu and was going to buy it but then I thought, no, I don't really know how to cook it. I wish I knew lots of different ways to cook tofu.
Well now I do. And I look forward to trying them out.

But wait there's more!

- A pink reusable bag, with breast cancer awareness ribbon logo. I enjoy supporting both the colour and the cause.
- some veggie PETA stickers
- and KITTIE STICKERS. This is too uncanny. Literally two days ago I was in three different dollar stores trying to find cat stickers, and could find nary a one. And now I have many.

All the loot together:

I received from ecogeek! She combined my wish for a jewelry box and something to do with my late kitty, patches. I love it! (plus a bonus item, bubble wrap Wink )

On the top is her picture:

And inside there are some teas to try. I really like the rooiboos:

She did a good job of capturing the patches 'cow cat' pattern on the box:

I appreciate how patches was worked into the design, it makes this box very special to me. Thank you ecogeek!

7  Re: Pattern adjustment - taking a bodice up 4 or 5 cup sizes in Clothing: Discussion and Questions by desm88 on: February 05, 2010 08:13:22 PM
You'll pretty much have to slash and spread the whole inside of your bodice. Draw a line straight up from your under bust dart, and another line out from your side bust dart (the red lines in fabulous paint picture below). Then spread these pieces apart, as on the right, and secure them in a comfortable place over your bust. retrace onto a new piece of paper/muslin and add new darts (the red lines on the right drawing).

hope that works!

I love that little puff ball friend, it's so cute Smiley

I received from oops creations!

first, the scarf:

closeup of the beautiful crochet pattern with a scalloped edge:

and on it, one of the smalls - a lovely blue crocheted flower broach:

and the other small, a pouch that will be perfect for holding my laundry change now that I need coins for laundry (how did you know? Smiley )

seven victorian cards!

and two fabric patches! these made me go Shocked Shocked Shocked Grin Grin Kiss  I love them!!

Thank you so much Oops Creations! I love the package you sent me! You may have thought the scarf pattern was simple, but to my knitting eyes it looks quite fancy. It also matches my coat and the buttons on said coat Smiley
Thanks again!

9  1920s stripey dress in Costumes: Completed Projects by desm88 on: September 04, 2009 01:20:24 PM
I've been working at one of those museums where it's a village and the staff dress up in period costume Grin and it's been so much fun!!

This is the first dress I made, from a pattern from 1923. I actually made it more 'busy' than the pattern suggested - there were options for a dress with ONE of the following: short sleeves, long sleeves, collar, or belt. I decided to go crazy and do short sleeves with a collar and a belt (gasp!). I also used a striped fabric, angled on the bias on the lower sides.

(this is the staff member (interpreter) who wore it yesterday)

thanks for looking Smiley

My lovely package arrived from mel pez!!
In this fantastically decorated box:

And inside:

Freezer paper, contact paper, exacto knife, stencil palate, stencil blank, brushes, and paint galore! I can't wait to start something Cheesy

And the fabulous example, in action:

It's kind of hard to see, but it says 'Grr.. argh!' in sparkly gold letters or the shoulder Cheesy
Eeeeee! It's perfect! Good thing I mentioned the buffy fanaticism

Thank you mel!
